You'd also be surprised how many of them lack trigger discipline. :(

It's such a boner kill to have to yell "HEY. YEAH YOU BIMBO. FINGER. OFF. THE. TRIGGER."

I know I've seen a few of their videos on Youtube, and someone shouted that in the comments. Apparently a few of them do actually have trigger discipline though.

ROFLMAO, Barkey you crack me up man. There still several issues to solve for lasers to be effective. Defraction can reduce range and power, energy is still a big issue. Ballistics are very adapative in their overall form, lasers, not so much.

Our bullets will be around for quite some time still.

We've got that in trope form, Kinetic Weapons Are Just Better I believe. Lasers have their advantages as well, but bullets have their own. Fun though.

I prefer particle beams. Take Beam Spam and add one part More Dakka and one part Kinetic Weapons Are Just Better.

They have both mass and relativistically high velocity. What's not to love? Except the part of what kind of particle beam do you make and how do you make it?

Nothing screams cool to me like shell casings all over the place and loud noises, followed by the screams of people with pieces of metal flying through their skin at high speeds.

I saw something about using discrete chemical packages for a chem laser. So you could make a laser that tossed spent cartridges out the side.

Like instead of powder and primer having the chemical charge inside a sort of casing?

Pretty much what it sounds like. A limited shot chem battery/laser generator that ejects on empty. Issues would be weight and amount of shots per unit, and expense per unit.

There was another fictions series that used a plastic disk with a ion copper matrix built into the disk, the charge was excited into a plasma state and shot out plasma streams the plastic disks were ejected. I

t was realistically written complete with weapons that had been fired for a long stream had the spent disks melting into the ejector breech and causing jams. The Hammers Slammers series I think it was.

Ballistics will still reign supreme for a long while to come hell we will have working rail guns (field Deployable) long before we have a truly effective laser weapon system. By effective I mean doesn't need a vehicle convoy or a large converted jet to haul it around.

Nice handwave. Not even an especially unrealistic one, either, given that most tactical lasers I know of expend chemical fuel.

I think it was in one of the Timothy Zahn books I read. The one with the four dimensional dragons. They were given to Child Soldiers cause they were very cheap.

Timothy Zhan writes some good stuff.

Back on track.

Currently the Largest Caliber Anti-Materiel/Sniper Rifle Punches holes in and out about the size of a water melon in a car. (soft Skinned vehicle)

The Payload Rifle 25mm. Another Fine Barret ProductStill in testing and final development phases.

I'm not qualified to discuss its performance, but the PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II is a good-looking weapon (and has one of the best names for a weapon that I've ever heard).

Next time someone makes fun of the French military, I'm going to tell them they have a heavy sniper rifle called the "Hecate". If the person doesn't agree with me that that's ridiculously awesome, I think I'll just smack them for being wrong.

That's the thing though. They make some great guns. They just sort of suck as war fighters. and I mean sort of, they do good for a while then the crap hits the fan and they stop being effective.

That IWS looks impressive, though I'm not a fan of the AUG, Steyr makes quality firearms.

I honestly prefer the swiss when it comes to guns, Sig all the way. Expensive, yeah, but that's their only downside most of the time.

I can't remember where I read it, but that Steyr AMAT rifle had maximum range drift of about an inch. That sucker has some serious punch 40mm armor penetration.
