That boss is weak against all disables. It's basically a damage race to kill it before it kills you.
I'm not proud of this, but I cheesed it with Zombie Powder and Fair Trade or whatever that skill is called in English.

Also, during the battle, Jenneta will join in; her Hound is a lifesaver, as its roar can induce panic.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Opening with Chain Blast is basically a good way to win, but still.
The last time I waited for February with baited breath was for a Fire Emblem game. What a nice change of pace to wait for an Etrian Odyssey game.
Sorry for the double-post, but a trailer for the localized version of Etrian Odyssey Nexus was posted a couple hours ago:
Looking forward to it, definitely. I had a lot of fun with IV and V, all things considered.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Etrian Odyssey Nexus comes out in two days.
I've gone back to Etrian Odyssey V to finish up the fifth stratum. I'll see if I can get some better equipment before tackling the sixth stratum.
Just picked up my copy of Nexus. I won't be able to play until the evening, so I'm going to agonize over what classes to use for my starting party for now.
Lucky you, my copy got held up somewhere, and the best guess as to when it gets to the store so I can pick it up is "sometime this week".
Will the transhumanist future have catgirls? Does Japan still exist? Well, there is your answer. — UnknownBloombeast is annoyingly tanky for a miniboss. And you can't do the EXP DLC until you beat him!
Fortunately, I got him down and now I'm on EO 4's first dungeon.
Man, it really feels good to see Napier again.
Also, I'm laughing at that one guard who says "This place only has some weak fawns! This should be a snap!" Oh boy, this guard must be a newbie, huh?
I'm pretty sure that exact same NPC was in 4.
And, in fairness, he's not wrong. Unless you decide to kill the fawns.
I actually was overleveled, though, so I got away with doing it.

If you kill the fawns, the guard is brutally murdered and the narration actually points that out on the way out, so his blood is on your hands, forever.
I can live with that. A bunch of other guards are also murdered in the same spot. The funny thing is that the narration treats it like you're supposed to see this before Furyhorn, but you'll just run straight into Furyhorn if you head in that direction because it aggros on you unless you go into a side room it can't reach.

Nah, I'm pretty sure their blood is on the Furyhorn. As well as the surrounding area.
Beat the first labyrinth in the game. Was a little surprised at them throwing two Berserker Kings at you (albeit the first one only having half health), and then throwing Cernunos at you.
Are there other dungeons from 4 besides these two? I've only played that one aside from Nexus and having that battle theme from it is the best.
Uh, there's Golden Lair for your Hailfire Peaks needs.
Why Golden Lair!? Well, there's no airship, so the annoying "two entrances" mechanic is probably gone.
I still would rather have had whatever the dungeon Arcanists came from was, though. The music and aesthetic were great.
Because I'm behind on the times I'm still digging through EO V (well, i just picked it back up)
I got to the dryad super boss and her first attack actually just wiped my party... what the fuck. how am i supposed to beat this thing? My team is only mid 60s but that seemed really ridiculous...
besides that the space stratum is really cool but also a real pain in the ass... the enemies are also ridiculous. i can kill them in one-two turns, but it isn't uncommon for them to party wipe me before i can even get a hit in... this is kinda ridiculous...
i've been avoiding it, but i might be forced to play the grinding DLC in order to save myself the headache...
edit: beat the dryad. I guess I got ridiculously unlucky with that party wipe? I chain blasted it turn 1 this time around and i sorta cleaned house from there. I inflicted stone on it with my Botanist's Gorgon Bow that I gave her (since she isn't doing much damage anyway...) and it just... died. horribly.
the stratum is still a bitch and a half, but I honestly just think my team is horribly unoptimized for dungeon crawling since I don't have a pugilist or a rover for binds, and I don't have anyone for status infliction... I just have pure DPS. great for boss slaying... terrible for exploration. I'm not going to remake my team this late in the game though, since I just want to get done with the last stratum, beat the superbosses, and move on to Nexus.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaePSA: The Giant's Ruins suck. That is all.
I remember getting pissed off about that, too. Land a head bind Turn 1 or die. Also, keep it on her because she can still use that move later.
The dryad's gimmick is that she's super-vulnerable to disables, so it's a race to kill her before they wear off.
Also the Giant's Ruins are probably the worst labyrinth in the entire 3DS series, so honestly I recommend skipping them until you way overlevel them.
Did they retain the Bikini Armor Heroine DLC outside of Japan? She had a DLC costume that turned her armor into a bikini in Cross.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!
I really don't appreciate the fact that Dryad opens with lethal damage.
