I don't even see where the joke is. There's a bait and switch, which subverts expectations, but it's missing the crucial components known as "cleverness" and "making sense". Also, it's pretty ugly and has no relation to Pokemon.

Hitting the previous button once confirms that this is, indeed, by the authors of VG Cats. Oh yes indeedy.

I'm honestly not sure he's even trying to be funny.

EDIT: Read through the previous few comics. My God, this is terrible. VG Cats isn't exactly the height of humor, but it usually gets a pained grimace out of me; all this comic inspires is apathy.

And now I feel like a Slowpoke for not noticing that it was a Slowpoke. I thought it was some sort of joke on the zany theories surrounding Elvis' death.

Well, I think this comic relies on blatantly picking apart some of the more vulnerable frige logic aspects of the game.

Like being able to name your rival "DOUCHE" (there was actually a strip where the rival's name was changed between Gary, Douche, and Blue several times, after strip had officially appeared on the site), and like your rival's line "smell ya later", and how you get money from defeating trainers.

Yes, the joke depends on noticing that it's a slowpoke. I like subtle jokes like that. :D

Edit: Okay, as subtle as something by the VG Cats people can get.

I realize I'm bumping something most people here have said they dislike, but still, I found this◊ amusing... If part because I have NO IDEA whether Scott has completely abandoned his earlier pretense of making fun of the games.

I thought it was supposed to be a joke about MC in pokemon not looking (or acting) their age at all. Still not really funny.

Ever since people started talking about the comic being like "oh it's a slowpoke I get it" I was like "of course it's a Slowpoke, it's clear as day as it is".

And NOW I got why that is a joke.

I feel like I've been turned into a living punchline.

Scott pulling off a smart joke? Gasp!!

I didn't get the joke until you guys mentioend it. I knew it was a slwpoke when I saw it, but I didn't consider that it was a slowpoke. I just thought Scott was making some joke that didn't make sense funny. Now that I know what it means, this may be the only time hes done a funny and smart joke.

The latest one is eh, but exploiting the games' mechanics and what-not for humour, and combining it with the style of Pokemon Special... (well kinda...) is kinda cool.

Incidentally I thought the Slowpoke one was to do with Michael Jackson.
