Uhhh, to be fair, Cyber-Newtypes weren't exactly reliable in keeping sane...

I'm not even sure Cyber newtypes are available in "sane". They seem to come in different grades of "bipolar cloudcuckoolander" and "driven single minded machine".

Rosamia is smart. Rosammy is smart for a five-year-old.

Marida was mostly sane, give or take the lingering bits of conditioning floating about in her brainpan, and it's hard to say whether Gyunei was crazy or just an asshole teenager.

I loved Katz. He was great. He was such a fun little fuck up. And he got to pilot a Nemo for a couple episodes.

Katz was awesome. He'd just get all these ideas of being a superhero in his head and then immediately fuck things up in catastrophic and tragic ways.

I might have liked Quess to if the story didn't rely so much on her.

At least, I think this is the first actual confirmation. It's been heavily hinted at, and it's an absolute no-brainer, but I don't think they've outright said it yet.

Wasn't the Neo Zeong just a one-time thing because of the whole built inside a ship and then deployed to counter the Nahel Argama crew thing?

I mean, almost literally nothing about the Sinanju makes any sense so honestly I'm kind of "sure, why not."

At least its colours are accurate to the original Zeong?

• "Cinderella Four" Glass Slipper Joke
• Amuro gives love advice. Beltochika doesn't help. Also Amuro knows this will end poorly, though he should explain.
• Federation being superseded, also the Psycho Gundam is dangerous.
• Four and Kamile getting along.
• Lack of memories is a bitch.
• Newtype Glow.
• Seriously though, Captain Wooder... who named this guy?
• Hizacks everywhere in this binch
• Amuro made a promise.

There's a lot of stupid names in this show. Some say it was done on purpose for a kind of sexual symbolism. So that means they intentionally gave a bunch of characters absolutely stupid names.

And if that Neo Zeong sees any action it's gonna job so fucking hard. We already had the Neo Zeong establish itself as a final boss suit, this thing's just there to get worfed.

Also, Gaera Doga > Gaera Zulu. The Zulu's design just doesn't appeal to me as much as the more outrageous and cool looking Doga. I appreciate the bulkier frame and the menace.

I would prefer a Perfect Zeong or Zeong High Mobility Type to the crappy looking Neo Zeong.

Hey, you all remember Mitsuo Fukuda, director of Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny who alongside his now deceased wife was viciously and unfairly slandered and crucified in the court of public opinion back in the day by Western Gundam fandom for the unforgivable crime of making a show they didn't like?

SEED got real bad, real quick, largely because of reasons directly traceable to Fukada. His later work only lowers my opinion of him.

And frankly yeah, your lead-in there only diminishes your point. Good job on that.

Cross Ange was close enough in cast, concept, and general narrative to the show Fukuda's wife died writing on that it comes across like he's exorcising some really weird demons.

To be fair to him, though, his notoriously low-effort directorial techniques probably saved his animators a hell of a lot of man-hours, so I'm not going to rule out the idea that he's been working to make the Sunrise staff's lives easier for a while now.

Seed is generally regarded as being decent, even if you're not a huge fan. It's Destiny that was the trainwreck, and most of that goes to the fact that Chiaki Morosawa, the head writer (and Fukuda's wife), was ill during production, which caused knock-on delays throughout the whole process.

Oof. Toxic animation environments strike again. This seems to be a major problem in the entertainment industry and a lot of other businesses in Japan. They're overworking people to shit, it's depressing.

Though c'mon, it's bad form to use the corrupt industry as a gotcha against fans. It flattens the culpability towards these unethical companies.

Hoo boy, years later and Seed can still be linked to controversy. It's surprising how the seed series itself managed to gain such ground with the Japanese audience with all the trouble that surrounded the studio while making it.

Just a little fandom history here guys, back when Seed and Destiny were airing, people really hating the shit out of Fukuda for pretty much no reason other than that they didn't like Seed. To the point of people doing things like posting "translated interviews" that were just straight up invented whole cloth, in order to make Fukuda look bad. You occasionally still hear claims from stuff like this, like the idea that Cagalli got shafted in Destiny because Morosawa didn't like her VA.

That seems to be what Xeino was referring to.

I feel it's entirely justified given the often hypocrisy and malice of Gundam fandom over here about AU Gundam series (see the vitriol thrown on Mari Okada, script writer of IBO when it was on the air.) But then again, I think the "infallible" Yoshiyuki Tomino is kind of a hack as a director a fair amount of the time and that certain beloved entries in the franchise by him such as Zeta, Char's Counterattack and Victory are legitimately terrible.

Also very much that was the intent I was going for here.

I'm not saying that they're wrong to say that and I'm not saying SEED had an unnecessary backlash. But using that corrupt industry as a springboard as a take that against fans was the wrong way to go. At best it's appropriating a serious issue for a shallow gotcha.
