^^ With 99% certainty I can tell you any "X Shreds" video has an original overdub.
Nickelback getting the awful stoner metal treatment. Insert obligatory "I bet it's better than the song that got overdubbed" remark here.

Really? Huh, the moar you know.
Or the now ubiquitous 'Better than Beaver'. The dubbed lyrics aren't much of a step down from the original, though.

Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?The Dragon Ball Z had some good music on them.
Funnily enough, my favorite band from a DBZ movie wasn't really Alt-metal. I don't know what to call them.
This is probably my favorite song that I think fits somewhere in Alt-metal's vast scape.
This on the other hand is just straight hard rock, which DBZ seems to prefer licensing.
I don't know what I.O.N. would be classified as, but I wish it was easier to find their music.
Can anyone name some alt-metal with a bit of a Speed Metal/Groove Metal/Thrash Metal edge?
How about alt-metal with a few hardcore/post-hardcore screams?
And can anyone name any alt-metal with a strong progressive bend? (and don't say Faith No More, SOAD or Tool, because I've tried them for that already)

I think Chimaira's early work might count.
That's for the groovy alt-metal, I mean.
I think From Zero sounds somewhat prog. I mean, sure they have none of the instrument wankery normally found (actually, the instrumentation is almost as simple as nu-metal gets I guess), but some melodies have a certain "proggy" feel about it.

No regret shall pass over the threshold!Dir En Grey re-did Obscure. Personally, I think this is proof that they're getting worse...
I personally liked it as much as the original
No regret shall pass over the threshold! It's certainly different. Sparser, for one thing. I think I prefer the original, even if the addition of Kyo's new demoniac gargling adds another dimension. Fewer controlled high notes though, so I'm wondering if his last case of edema of the larynx did some lasting damage.

Mike Starr, the ex-bassist of Alice in Chains, has been found dead. Obligatory news article.
last.fm | RYMTMZ, which broke the news of Starr's death, quoted his father as saying: "It's a terrible shock and tragedy."
Tragedy yes, shock no. He was on a show about overcoming drug addiction which, going by this report, he didn't seem to overcome anything before leaving the show.

I don't normally like being so indulgent, but can I ask any Disturbed fans who might visit this thread to vote for Disturbed to take down Green Day in MTV's Musical March Madness tournament?
http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/04/01/march-madness-green-day-disturbed
Our fanbase is working pretty hard at this; we're even getting some support from A7X, Art of Dying and Korn's fanbases (and possibly Halestorm, Slipknot and Godsmack). Care to help an underdog out?

I'll do it just to spite Green Day.
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt." - Some guy with a snazzy hat.You have my... voting hand?
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!Voted. I (mildly) like both Disturbed and Green Day, but the latter's had seven straight years or overexposure.

Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?Damn, has it really been seven years since American Idiot?
Hasn't Disturbed had a lot of exposure too? I remember reading somewhere that their past 4 albums debuted at number 1 or something.
Disturbed's well known too, but for quite a long time it seemed Green Day was the favourite or least favourite band of every middle schooler with an internet connection. Plus, Disturbed never had any of their albums acclaimed as an OMG HUGE and IMPORTANT statement about the future of the USA, when really it was just a teen Rock Opera with the occasional Godwin's Law spitball aimed at Colonel Clusterfuck.

Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?
Eh, where I went to school you didn't hear much about Green Day and Disturbed was pretty much the "safe" band. As in if someone wanted to talk to me about metal or rock, they were most likely going to be brought up.
^ Funny, since in my school it was always Pantera and Metallica shirts in the halls.
Well anyway, thanks, all; there's about a half-hour left before the poll closes, and we're surging pretty violently (less than a 1% difference).
EDIT: Never mind, they takes this day too. It was ridiculously close though.
Alright, now to get this thread back on track: should I be interested in any more Living Colour albums besides their first?* (I have the second now).

No Pantera or Metallica, but I saw a few of the "scene"/"emo" kids wearing Slayer jackets
I ain't lying I don't know if they actually listened to Slayer.
Actually that would be Morgan's, not Layon's.
No regret shall pass over the threshold!
