Anyone like this guy's reviews? I watched his Transmorphers one and thought it was pretty good.

(I just know someone will come in and bash him for his Equilibrium review though)

He's hit or miss. I do wish he'd get better equipment.

I do enjoy the Transmorphers review, though.

I agree that he's hit or miss, but the misses aren't really bad, just kinda boring.

My main problem is his acting, the rather pointless catch phrase bookends, and the fact that often his complaints seem to be picked straight from IMDB.

But that been said, I do like his reviews.

I think he's at his best when ripping apart average Hollywood comedies and movies with hackneyed plots and glurgey sentimentalism. His reviews of Seven Pounds, Evan Almighty, Bride Wars, Mall Cop and The Ugly Truth are really spot on, attacking both the cliched plots and the unsettling subtext beneath them. He's very good at spotting sinister undertones and goes for the jugular on 'em, which is always fun.

In general, he seems to aim more for criticism than humour, so some of his reviews are kinda tedious. Not perfect, but all in all, I like FB. :)

Thanks for the all fish!

I think this also really showed when he reviewed The Spirit with Linkara.

I'm a Film Brain fan! *wears Buck badge*

FB is the only reason I check into TGWTG anymore. I agree that his main strength is straight-up criticism, but he's also good at dry sarcasm. (NC's latest forays into snark seem laboured in my opinion).

His earlier attempts at having his own "plot" a la Spoony or Linkara were massive blunders and only served as padding. The worst example was that tangential scene in the "Hollywood Homicide" review where the review just stops for minutes at a time and really serves no purpose but to annoy the viewer. (I know he's trying to make a point about the movie (and I saw the movie—in fact, I think it's even worse than he says it is)).

So the abandonment of such gimmicks was a sign to me that he had improved.

IN WHICH I HAVE A FILM BRAIN MOMENT: I did not like Kickassia. Not. One. Bit. Not only because FB was given a completely goofy character that does not match his BMB persona, but the whole thing felt like a Shoot the Money exercise. (OK, OK, I know they needed to pad out the thing to accommodate all the talent they flew in. They could have prevented this by not inviting the lesser-known, lesser loved personalities).

They already had a deadpan snarker in both Phelous and the Critic. FB is yet another one would have been redundant.

You do know they did Film Brian liek that on purpose and he was fine with it? It's becuase they knew he had a Scrappy status and they wanted to play that up as much as humanly possibly, even I sw it. I thought it was hilarious.

Besides, not everyone is in character during the team brawls. I mean, Lord Kat is only slightly less sick than Sage and we didn't see that. Marzgurl doesn't have a character but we didn't see her as a dull as a plank. And last I checked, Jew Wario wasn't a cloudcuckoulander.

The problemo is, FB is not good with that persona. At least Jewario fit it, somehow.

Also, I'm not sure of the exact figures, but he at least appears to be youngest of the crew, and I would imagine the whole idea of the role is that he's the kid who gets to meet the people he thinks are the coolest ever.

Note, that Nostalgia Critic otherwise displays little will to take over the world, either.

Again, he is not that good as a critic. The way he criticizes the movie seems very immature and his "rage" comes of as Nostalgia Critic light.

I actually liked his last reviews, but this two parter reminded me why I just to skip his videos. He provides neither actual criticism, nor entertainment.

He was fair this time around. Near the end he had some other person come in who liked the movie, and he gave his two cents.

I think Matthew anticipated the Hudson Hawk review would be another "Equilibrium moment" so he had Spoony beat the shit out of him to pre-empt the inevitable hatedom.

Am I the only one who thought that he acted a little immature after Welshy (the other guy in part 2) finished his defense? I mean, I don't think Matt tried to rebut all the points Welshy made. Still, Matt did have legitimate points when it came to the confusion of who's on whose side at the moment.

He didn't rebut, he summarised what he's been saying for two episodes. Welshy simply gave a second opinion. You know, a second one?

I'm not the hugest Spoony fan, but I always seem to enjoy his cameos.

Also, the entire review was Film Brain's rebuttal. All the points Welshy made were counterpoints to his, and what it really came down to was that they saw things different ways. For Film Brain to debate with him would've gotten repetitive since we already know his points.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Film Brain is one of the few TGWTG reviewers I still watch, but I really only watch his reviews of films that I have seen before since I'm only in it for his critisism. His comedy and acting are mostly fail and the less other TGWTG reviewers show up in his reviews the better.

When he mocked the mugging to camera in Hudson Hawk I just cocked my head to the left, did a one sided smile and raised an eyebrow. Exaggerated movements and overstretched faces, eh?

Yeah, but compare Film Brain's regular behaviour to the "WOULDN'T IT BE FUNNY IF I TALK LIEK THIS LOLOLOLOL" joke. He's a bit hammy, but compared to the Hudson Hawk guys, he's pretty restrained.
