It felt pretty likely to me because Joseph vs regular Kars is a very short fight (mainly revolving around a rope trick, something we had already seen), Lisa Lisa is built up so much to get no solid fight, and like I said Kars having an anti-honour attitude (which is the main reason that he's considered a weak villain by the fanbase) comes out of virtually nowhere so he is free to trick Lisa Lisa.

It fits Araki's style too. In interviews, he's said that the longer he wrote shonen manga, the more he felt like women should be able to do the same things as the men. He was able to do more and more with the women over time, but there was always pushback.

It wasn't until Part 6 that he was really able to do it successfully. SO is one of the most atypical stories ever to run in shounen jump. I think he was probably happy to move onto Ultra Jump afterwards.

I'll never understand the issues with keeping women out of the action in some Shonen.

It is that thing about executives being convinced that boys just don't want to see girls in their awesome battles or something like that?

Of course, there's also the issue of other authors just being bad with their females in the first place, though it's good to hear that Araki is trying to be better about that.

To some degree they're unfortunately not wrong. Araki mentioned that he got letters criticizing Jolyne for her lack of femininity.

Different standards I guess. Japan has always been pretty stuck on that.

That being said I still commend Araki for using his clout to do it anyways.

They're Texas based, the dub will be LA-based.

I'm not sure how Jolyne lacks femininity. Sure, she's tough and all, but we see plenty of soft moments with her like when she was with her fake boyfriend or when she thought she had Jotaro's concern and was blushing about it.

Sexism, like racism, is the product of emotions, not logic.

They complained that araki was drawing her too masculine later on. I think it's less she's a girl and more that she wasn't "girly" enough. That's a set of issues in itself, but it has nothing to do with jolyn being allowed to kick butt, which was lisa's situation.

But yeah the NO GURLS ALLOWED TO BE BADASS attitude is so stupid and petty it's frankly embarassing. I can imagine some 40-something year old guy reading the draft, his face curling into a scowl, and saying " I don't like this. Change it, women aren't supposed to do these things araki, boys can't relate to this! Please understand..."

I find it pretty interesting that Lisa Lisa is still alive in Part 3 as she's spoken to over the phone. While she was a baby in Part 1, she's the only character that's not Dio or Kars who was alive in Parts 1, 2 and 3. I wonder how old a hardcore Ripple User would look at 100, though I assume she's passed away by Part 4

Speaking of Kars, how long do you think he floated the vacuum of space before brain death put him out of his misery?

Wouldn't she be 110 at that point? Not that's impossible even in Real Life, but even with the Ripple mastered she'd probably be more frail than Part 4 Joseph

You know, it's popular in fanfiction to have Shizuka become a Jojo and train under grandma Lisa Lisa.

I'm not suprised that fanfic focuses on her getting the ripple, since her stand doesn't have any direct attack purposes.

A quack doctor performing unsafe aesthetic surgeries is all over the news in my country, so this new Jojolion chapter couldn't be more accidentally well-timed.

I believe it's not directly, but I think Suzy mentioned talking with her at one point.

I do wonder what Lisa Lisa's stand would be actually.
