From what I understand, Japan doesn't care much for Lilo.
They go crazy for Stich tho
New theme music also a boxmaybe not but they do love stich and I'm sure they would be on board for an excuse to use the character again.

How come Mickey doesn't have as much horrible stuff happen to him like the other Keyblade users, who either get possessed, fall into a coma, get trapped in another world for a decade, etc.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.because Disney would not approve of that
New theme music also a boxAlso here's my Union X self.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.
Magnificent.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. Thanks, wish the game had a green color for the tail AND would let me have two more, then it'd be closer to my 'sona.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. As I understand it, she's not in the Stich anime at all right?
I think she's replaced by a young Japanese girl. It may just be Creator Provincialism at work, but do we know why they don't seem to care for lilo?
One Strip! One Strip! From what little I know, Japanese audience doesn't hate Lilo either. I assume the anime just use a Japanese character because it's easier for them to write and closer to home for it's target audience.
KH being aimed at a international market in the first place, and using version based on the movies would probably use Hawaii if they wanted to bring back Stitch and not have a level set in space like in BBS.
The replacement is Hokaiiden to be specific /nerd
Stitch and Ai also went with a different kid. A Chinese girl named...well guess.
Then there is Stitch and the Samurai and ofc Stitch has an original plot in BBS that doesn't touch Hawaii and establishes a bond with TAV that probably fed into one with Sora come later chronological appearances via having Ventus inside him.
IIRC it was at least rumored that Lilo was to shall we say Bratty for Asian peoples' taste. If that is true, that might be the underlying motive (and explain her characterization in the anime)

I doubt it's because she's bratty. Anime are full of bratty characters who are popular.
I think it's most a matter of Japan not wanting to deal with the Hawaiian setting, and Lilo is too tied into that setting so she goes with it. Stitch himself is pretty easy to implant into almost any other setting.
There is an episode of the anime where an older Lilo shows up to reunite with Stitch.
Could just use Destiny Islands as a location for Lilo and Stitch, no?
Life is more fun with infinite MP.That would come with its own set of worms. (In fact I'm pretty sure the islander setup for Sora is prolly a factor in why Lilo was excluded in KH).
- for one replacing Hawaii with unlocatable islands that is only vaguely polynesian is a representational can of worms
- outside of that. The archipelago itself is underused, even in the first game only two of the islands were used at most and I don't think Square is keen on expanding the islands to an expanded playable level right now (especially since it is likely the endpoint for Sora, Riku and Kairi when all is set and done possibly decades form now).
- There is also the matter of Sora's Call to Adventure being a localized apocalypse on said set of islands. With the subsequent Fridge Horror that would taint not only her appearance there ("You mean to say that a 5 year old girl was implied to had effectly been killed in KH 1?") but also Stitch's appearance in KH 2 Hollow Bastion ("Where was Lilo during that time?") unless it was established that they moved there very recently (not out of the question but still dependent on Square's willingness to make DH playable. also keep in mind that there was only a couple of years between 1 and 3)
Also it would screw with potential adaptations of the movies FWIW (That aside, Stitch the Movie and Leroy and Stitch have next to nil chances, so its mainly the original and Stitch has a Glitch that have any shot here)

I find it funny Sora's has this whole unexplored backstory that's been a thing since Kingdom hearts 1
New theme music also a boxIs Sora’s mom dead or…?
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. We don't know,we know she existed because we heard her voice though
New theme music also a boxI am surprised that Sora never wonders how his Mom, Tidus, Wakka, Selphie and the rest of the Destiny Islanders are doing.
"May your heart be your guiding key"It is kinda weird how the families aren't involved in the Gummiphone network.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.I think it's time to make it a playable world again, considering the extra bits of plot importance the world has gotten through out the later games.
-Witty line-The 'transported to another world' genre tends to ignore the family the leads left behind, or handwave that they were jerks, or that the protagonist didn't have any.
So I used to crack that Japan's fondest wish is to never see their relatives again.
And then when you combine that with the Disney Law of Dead Parents, it's honestly shocking Sora's mom was even allowed to exist as much as she does.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonI like to imagine Sora's mother and father are alive and both wondering what the heck Sora is

you know what would be nice, a world based of on the hawaii of lilo and stich
