I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it's that "boss handicap" thing that shows up in the clear screen as a penalty.
Update (4/10): Finished 4. Bought 5. Taking a break, but I’ll start it later today. Looking forward to it!

You know, aside from Vergil, does DMC have any villains that are particularly well regarded by the fanbase?

Kaze ni Nare!Ah, Sparda. (Because Sparda is also Demon Jesus.)
Don't take my response as anything, I have no idea. I'm not that intimate with the series.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Mundus is the only antagonist Dante never outright defeated, just sealed.
Plus he's noticeably the only already established villain alongside Vergil to appear in the reboot.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I sometimes hear that people like Arkham, maybe.
He certainly stands out for not really being a power-based villain like the others at least.

Kaze ni Nare!Arkham and Jester were relatively well-received I think for how they tied into Lady's backstory.
But they did debut in the same game as Vergil soooooo...
Bleye knows Sabers.Finished 5! Loved it. Going to go back and play through on Son of Sparda next, but not until tomorrow at least. Looking forward to playing around with the postgame unlocks, though. :D
Really glad I finally got into this series. It’s so much fun, and it’s been a while since I got this attached to a series’ characters this quickly. I was basically onboard after watching those stream playthroughs, but for something like this, that’s no substitute for actually playing. I still have a lot of stuff left that I haven’t tried between all the games I played, so I’ll be going back to those at some point. Wherever the series goes from here, I’m glad to be along for the ride.

Jester is my favorite DMC villain in terms of personality and onscreen presence. That said the flip flopping between him and arkham in that one scene where he owns everyone was kinda weird. But him being Jester was a cool twist regardless.

They actually explained why in the DMC 3-1-2-4 artbook. The flip flopping happened because they didn't have the technology to show him actually transforming between the forms.
A corpse should be left well enough alone......they had a sequence where Dante surfed on the body of a demon across the room while spinning around like a maniac and firing off his guns, and followed up by knocking over a pool table and ricocheting each ball so they'd hit several enemies at once...
...but they couldn't animate Arkham transforming into Jester?
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Apples and oranges, probably. I don't know THAT much about 3d modelling and animation but I can see animating a facial transformation being more difficult than doing those. They were relying on motion capture for a lot of Dante's moves, but for the Arkham to Jester thing they have to create it from scratch since there's probably no way to mo-cap that.

I don't know much 3D modeling either, but since that was also the era where they couldn't even properly render Spawn's cape properly then that's really not that hard to believe.
Yes, animating transformations (or even simple things like changing clothes) is significantly different from just animating characters moving, even if in an over-the-top manner.
That's why there's (usually) No Flow in CGI.

0/10, helmetless Doomguy yet no smile◊.
So Arkham is considered one of the worst bosses in the entire DMC series.
I... honestly didn't think he was that bad. What's the problem with him exactly?
Is his awfulness something that only becomes apparent when played on higher difficulties? (I'm playing normal on the original version of DMC 3)

Kaze ni Nare! The issue is due to the Double team mechanic taking away your DT, Style 'and thus any reasonable healing plus damage boost' your forced to whittle away at him at a safe distance till you can discern his pattern... which is a pain to learn due to the fact He is a blob and constantly has sweeping attacks
I don't know if he is hard... so much as frustratingly unfun to fight, especially his whole sink into the ground and swarm you with slugs crap

I'm A Pervert not an Asshole! This might change after a few replays, but I think there are a few fights that I liked less than his.
Cerberus immediately comes to mind. Those Twin swordsmen and the Beowulf too.
I didn't find him that hard to read. You can jump over his swipes which are quite telegraphed. He also flashes different colours before using different attacks.
And this is probably just a me thing, but I almost never used Styles against bosses anyway.

Kaze ni Nare!is this the power of Two!
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole! So I just beat DMC 3 classic for the first time.
... I somehow got through the entire game (at least up until the final boss) without knowing that the Devil Trigger was a thing. I don't know how I missed that tutorial either.

Kaze ni Nare!...how?
Right, that reminds me - is there a way to replay the credits without actually doing the final missions over again? I got 98 kills in 3’s credits, so I’m sure I could get 100 if I tried again a few times. Same with 4 and 5, except I didn’t get that close. Still want to try again. Mostly I’m asking for 3, because the other two final bosses aren’t anywhere near as hard.

I don't know that they specifically get nerfed. It should just be the difficulty you're at, I know that it lowered from Devil Hunter ("Normal") to Human (easy) if you died too many times on the same boss in 3. But if you redo them at another difficulty later, that should be that.
