Speaking of muggles, what's Nico going to contribute to possible future stories now that Nero no longer needs her Devil Breakers?

Well he doeesn’t exactly need them but that doesn’t mean they still aren’t useful. The woman can create Brakers that can stop time after all.

Plus maybe she can start making Devil Arms.

[up][up]Also Nero ghosts his arms into his Devil Breaker in the final scene and mentions frequently that they are "pretty sweet" so I don't see them going anywhere.

[up]She already does, she made the Faust.

You know, you joke, but I would kinda like to see a What If? fanfic or something where Vergil is the one saved by Eva and Dante is the one left alone. Could make for an interesting role reversal considering how fundamentally different their personalities are anyway.

I think that is the first time I’v ever seen Vergil smile.

Also an AU would be very interesting especially cause I’m curious how their respective personalities would translate since I don’t think it be an exact 1 for 1 switch.

Also to go with that I found this too, https://www.reddit.com/r/DevilMayCry/comments/b1fm60/if_our_position_were_switched_would_our_fates_be/eimc5z2?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Man look at Nero swinging Dante’s haircut.

This is probably the first game to continue a plot thread from previous games, Since DMC kinda had a discard and Draw approach till 4 so saying all it can do is eat its own tail or rely on its one biggest moment sounds more like you being a pessimist for pessimism's sake

cause alot of the elements your are talking about have been present from pretty much the start

Slow cast build, usually Dante and His new female partner are the only ones to survive the game with maybe the one helpful NPC

Bosses tend to be side notes with Recurring bosses become fewer each game

4 was probably the first time you fought the majority of the bosses again since 1 but for the most part they are just Dante finishing off a foe 'cept Dagon since Nero did kill Bael' and had the biggest cast expansion... of Two and the fact it brought Lady and Trish back officially

Redgrave Kyo said Breatol is back. Is this true? Breatol played DMC 3 and DMC 4 back in the day. She did an aerial fight against Berial using Dante.

Finally got me DMC5. Man, it is SSSTYLISH. I've only just beaten the Elder Geryon Knight, which I've found is the coolest boss so far. I've only got two SSS ranks so far, which I did find kinda random since I think it was mostly V's Nightmare happening to blow up a bunch of stuff at once (which it did without me using Promotion).

V is giving me trouble though, I'll admit. The idea is to heal your pet demons by getting into enemies with lock-in+finisher right, or bring Shadow back to you with side-dodge or Griffin with back-dodge yeah? I've only just realized, but I feel like I'm failing to figure out something with how to keep Shadow in range of enemies going away for whatever reason - after something ends up out of Breakthrough range, I'm just going "Fuck" and walking towards it.

And now here is the VO of Balrog recording more lines to release online for your own use.

Alright, game bought yesterday and finished today. thank god for the ability to change battle themes and to tell Subhuman to piss off while I'm pulling my devil trigger.

I'm not sure if I like it more than Dm C, but i'm biased after replaying through that game 25+ times. But as it stands, it's gonna be my benchmark for every single beat them up I play and will be compared to it.

So, I dislike that they changed the rebellion shocwave attack to moving the stick rather than holding triangle. I dislike more generally the whenever an attack ask me to hold the stick in a certain position because it's relative to the camera angle and it's a pain to trigger sometime. Maybe it'll get better when I play the higher difficulties and make an habit of recentring the camera.

I think the game feels short, but I also think it's more a problem of how the plot is structured than actual content - Mission 13 feels like the beggining of the second or third act when in reality it's the beginning of the end, and it feels weird. Dm C had room for more ... I dunno, climactic moments ? with it's structure of "first we take down virility, then Bob Barbas, then lilith, then mundus" structure.

Because Donte is essentially a mix of Nero and Dante moveset wise, I miss things from nero when playing dante, and things from Dante when playing Nero. With the aformentionned problem with the stick attacks, I've had quite a lot of "goddammit/why" moments.

On the other hand...

Killing bosses with Gerbera's breakage while screaming LAZER ARM from the top of my lungs is one of the best things ever invented, and just for that the game is awesome. Several devil breakers are up there too (it's funny how gerbera comes from the hottest shit at the start of the game because of all the mobility it gives and then as the game goes on it's only usefulness becomes LAZER ARM or the occasionnal platforming bit.)

Dual wielding rocket launcher and gunslinger moves with them are ridiculously funs. < Mission 19 is a real treat to play (probably 20 too on a second attempt) and I like that it's the vergil fight but with a higher difficulty level, because the Dm C one was cool, but on the easy side and lacked an incentive to really push it -this one on the other hand kicked my ass trying to do it without continues, so that's cool.- Balrog is essentially eryx but on the faster side, and it's so great - I basically played only that weapon with Dante and got my SSS without much issues, speaks volume of how much I like those)

And even V is pretty fun to play despite being Mash triangle and square - cramp edition. That's a feat to manage to make that cool to play.

So yeah, the game is fucking excellent. I've always had trouble getting into older DMC because I'm spoiled by the reboot, so having a game that actually one-ups him into the department of graphics and quality of life while being a mainline game is essentially all I ever asked for.

I'm not sure I'll platinum it, but I'm really tempted to try.

Didn't think I would ever read that in this thread. Not that it's even remotely close to a bad thing it just no one really seems give the game where credit is due.

Frankly DmC wouldn’t be getting anywhere near the flack it’s historically gotten if Ninja Theory’d just made it an entirely different IP; that, and not infamously being dicks towards the original games.

I also hold the opinion that DmC, in a vacuum, is a solid game that has its own issues (colorcoded enemies are still a sore point) and would likely have been received much more positively without the baggage it had.

That's the downside to making a game sequel or reboot or remake or "spiritual successor". It's impossible to judge the game entirely on its own merit — it will be judged by what preceded it (and by what follows it). And that's only fair — after all, the developers are also banking on fans' nostalgia and fondness for the franchise to sell the game. Which of course makes Ninja Theory being disrespectful to the previous games that much more of an idiotic move. See also: the attempt to reboot Castlevania with Lords of Shadow. Fallout 76 is an objectively awful game anyway, but the backlash has been worse precisely because it's a Fallout game.

Heck, it doesn't even need to be a sequel. If a developer becomes famous for a certain game or game franchise, any future game they make will be judged by how it compares to said franchise. From Software is about to be tested with Sekiro Shadows Die Twice and the inevitable comparisons to their Soulsborne games. And Bioware has already failed this test with Anthem being compared negatively to...damn near every Bioware game before it. And like Fallout 76, Anthem is objectively not a particularly good or well-designed game anyway, but it not being able to measure up to Bioware's past games just made the reaction worse.

Fallout 76 of course hits both issues. It's ostensibly part of a popular game franchise and it's made by Bethesda, the people who gave us the friggin' Elder Scrolls games. It was supposed to be something special or at least decent. Instead, it's so bad that it's making people apprehensive about Fallout and Bethesda.

Well, people have been slowly becoming more and more apprehensive about Bethesda for a while, even as far back as Skyrim and Fallout 3, and especially following their decision to not send out early press copies anymore after DOOM. Fallout 76 just happens to be a BIG instance of everything people have been complaining about happening all at the same time and at a scale not seen before. Bugs galore and bad business practices aren't new for Bethesda by a long shot.

I guess the reboot has a few improvements over the previous games, and that's mostly anti-frustration features and quality of life improvements, as well as platforming sequences that the mechanics were actually properly built to deal with. Jumping those rafters and the cube room in DMC 3 were horrid. And yeah, Ninja Theory made decent-to-good beat-em-ups before the reboot, but it was always mechanically shallower combat to what DMC fans had grown used to and love. But, none of Inafune's 'Western experiments' really worked out for Capcom in the end, and then he made a bad game, so...

I'm still not really sure what was the purpose of DmC: Devil May Cry when it seems all it did was divided the fanbase. It's one thing when it's something like Mega Man or Resident Evil, but why DMC? It's a shame since they were some genuinely interesting ideas in Dm C.

Perhaps what I hate most about DmC is the fucking name and how it makes discussing it in context with the rest of the series such a chore.

Capcom (Keiji Inafune specifically) were looking at Western games getting like five times the amount of sales that their games were getting, and decided that the fact that they were Japanese was the problem they weren't managing to get the same numbers, rather than the fact that their genre(s) of games were a niche market, and so outsourced a bunch of their I Ps to Western studios in the late 2000's and early 2010's. This plan failed, to put it lightly, Inafune left Capcom in 2010 to make another failure and then Capcom decided to accept themselves and made a string of critical and financial successes. The End. tongue

There are several videos on Youtube that go into more detail about this, including Foxcade's two-part retrospective of the game and Matt McMuscles's What Happened? video on the subject.

I think M84 nails it. having played zero games of the series before it and not followed the marketing campaign, I had no expectations to measure the reboot to. And now it's the mainline games that have to measure up to it.

I'll defend lords of shadow, though. Lord's of shadow was smart enough to reboot itself in a different genre that mainline castlevanias to avoid being systematically compared to their predecessors.
