2 probably did well because of all the goodwill the first game had built up.
That's pretty much the only reason it sold so much, I bet. But the success of 2 paved the way for 3 to be greenlit, so I guess I can't complain.
"Think of it as an investment" -Capcom, maybe
Though they did rush 4 too.
Hopefully it’s not the case for 5.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Imagine the sequel to an 11-year old game being rushed.
duke nukem intensifies
It like rushing out a game you know is gonna allow you to buy an island... only to end up ruining your reputation cause you were worried more on hitting that prime sales date then delivering a finished product
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Without Devil May Cry 2, Dante from Devil May Cry 2 probably wouldn't have been in Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. You have to take the bad with the good. Who else would they even stick in that spot? Raidou? Crazy talk.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaire... Yeahh about that
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!I actually think Dante was the foothold SMT needed to actually get a base here in the west. The PS2 was flooded with JRPGs of all sorts. Nocturne, while fantastic, needed all the help it could get just to stand out. Maybe I'm wrong, but I do believe the reason my shelf has so many SMT titles (ironically, I have no Raidou titles) is thanks, at least in part, to its little crossover with DMC.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireoh probably...
I mean several JRPG series got their big break due to the JRPG craze of the PS 1 and 2 Eras
Some Like SMT and Persona got popular for how un-FF like they were and their difficulty others like Star ocean got their big break even if the product was the thing that killed the series.
Dante was a sweet selling point... Helped by the fact that SMT Dante acts closer to DMC 1 Dante... well He's still alot more reserved then his Whacky Bugs bunny like self from 3 and 4
I like laid back Dante... but there is a limit to it.
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Youtuber Yellow Motion gives his theories on V's motives.
Anyone play the ps4 demo yet? Im waiting for it to finish installing.
I saw a stream of it earlier today. Performance on PS 4 Pro seems pretty smooth from what I can tell.
It’s not in my PS 4 shop.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I can't find it either, not in the US store.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterI looked for it this morning, it seemed to be an option on the DMCV game page on the store, rather than a separate thing. Then again, I couldn't download it because all my PsPlus stuff was in the queue, and when I went in and out of the store it disappeared, so... I'll take another look in about 9 hours when I'm home from work.

"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."So... what now? They stated in an interview that the ending would explain why 5 took place after 2. Will that still apply?
Who knows. I think the new order of 31245 makes more sense than 31425, myself. With 312 being chronological, at least we have a reason why Dante in 1 and 2 is not crazy party boi - he lost his brother in 3 and 1. Then 4 comes around and he's had time to process his grief and his crazy persona has resurfaced, which carries on to 5.
But with 31425 there's no explanation for why he goes from crazy pizza cowboy in 4 to stoic and silent in 2 and back to crazy pizza cowboy biker in 5. Earth-31425 Dante is completely bipolar, while Earth-31245 at least has some logical reasoning for the difference in personalities between games.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I mean, it isn't that big of a retcon. The only reason 2 was after 4 was because nobody really knew what to do with that game storywise. It's essentially a filler game in the series too, and anything inferred from it in regards to a character arc, like Dante being moody is more due to them having no time to do what they wanted (Which was admitted in the artbook. They wanted to add more elements of characterisation, but development had gone to shit by that point, and they were never added). So it ultimately won't effect much in terms of the series as a whole. If anything it makes more sense, since Dante looks older in 4 than he does in 2.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...There's also a healthy dose of "who gives a shit" with this timeline, because everyone's been pretending 2 doesn't exist since 2003 anyway, and it's not like there's an actual narrative between the games that people are actually invested in.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."Yeah, honestly retconning 2 out of existence seems for the best. I'd thought they would explain in 5 how Dante came back (2 ends with bike revving -> first we see of Dante in V, then chronologically the latest he's been, is him riding a bike into action), but looks like we're just... kinda pretending that never happened.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.They haven't retconned it out. They just said it takes place before 4.
