Dante would absolutely win but, more importantly, their fight would be hella cool.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Actually Raiden vs Nero makes a bit more sense thematically. They're both sequel protagonists who are foils to the original heroes, both end up losing their arms, are/were base breakers, have stable love lives (well as stable as any relationship can be in Metal Gear) and both ended up fighting against their mentors.
New details on DMC 5, particularly regarding V who apparently isn't Vergil

Ehhhhhh, Vitale could just be Vergil-but-he-got-tired-of-sounding-Roman.
Hah!
Hahahahhaha!
I almost believed it too. Devil May Cry V and all. But bringing V-Dog back would be kind of a cop-out. Instead we're bringing in the new V-Dog... who is apparently French.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I have to question why that site didn't title the article properly. It is just a rumor that came from 4chan
35 year old white man. It'll be 18? That's weird. Damn near every game that's not deliberately attempting to sell on shock value and over-the-top edge caps out at 17 (M in ESRB), including the other DMC games, since many places won't even stock R18 games.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.V could be a remnant of Vergil and his scenario will focus on him trying to become complete. Like the remnants of Sephiroth in Final Fantasy: Advent Children.
Which would be appropriate given Vergil and Sephi fought in Death Battle.

Considering far bigger fans than me noticed a bunch of costume links from the mysterious stranger to Vergil, there's no chance that fellow is going to be entirely connectionless to Vergil. If they are not V, I'd still expect something out of V to Vergil, because they likely wouldn't be coy with naming them that otherwise.
So according to the DMC wiki, angels might exist in the main universe
http://devilmaycry.wikia.com/wiki/Angel
This kind of raises some questions about Sanctus, Credo, Agnus and Lucia's "devil" forms. Like, are they demons or just angels they mistook as demons?
Is it a problem if V isn't Vergil related?

Depends on whether or not you think connecting him to Vergil is too obvious and if that is a bad thing.
Not for me, but I'll be quite surprised and impressed if they aren't with such a huge Red Herring.
@ Angels: I'm sure they exist, but I imagine they do not give a shit about what is happening on earth. (This is assuming they're just not the ones from Bayonetta of course)
Sanctus and his crew are totally demons though, they're just taking advantage of the fact that they look divine. Pulling the wool over the eyes of the population and such.
Before he was revealed to be Vergil's son who/what did people think Nero was and his connection to Sparda and Dante? I recall thinking he was Dante's long lost brother. :p

35 year old white man.Assuming I read that question right, I was torn between "he's Sparda's reincarnation" and "he's the third Son of Sparda no one knew about."
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!My idea was he was some kid who'd been the victim of an experiment meant to create demon/human hybrids. His white hair was the result of him getting injected with some of Sparda's DNA.
V not being Vergil or Vergil-related does not necessarily prevent Vergil from showing up
He's legit freaking dead. Dante never mentions him again and we've no reason to believe he survived beyond Capcom being Capcom.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Well, nobody said he survived...
Hell it didn't stop him from showing up in 4 via flashback and he was still a playable character.
and all this news has done is say the guy in the poster isn't Vergil 'the black hair kinda gave it away but still'... it does not specify that V is the Cloaked Dude that ripped off Nero's arm
Nitpick: It didn't stop him from showing up in the Special Edition and not for very long.
(2) Fair.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!RE angels in DMC-verse: We've known they exist since DMC3, since the Fallen are obviously supposed to be fallen angels (which are sometimes but not always considered to have become demons) not only by their design aesthetic, but their very description: "A demon who fell from grace (...)"

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
I mean Dante was able to best a demon lord that created a sizable chunk of land and a pocket dimension to do battle in, traded blows with a 40-something foot mecha demon statue, and was able to breeze through at least two other foes that were on said demon lord's level. For as strong as Raiden is, MG Rays, Excelsius', and Armstrong weren't on that level of power.
