General Pikmin Thread

I don't know what you're all talking about. Everyone knows that when Pokemon Go came out it shot the chances of getting a seventh generation clear out of the water.

Anyway, it should be interesting to see how this develops. Anything that gets Pikmin some attention is good in my book.

Niantic: early access for the Pikmin mobile game limited access in Singapore.

3 Deluxe is at 2.04 million as of March 31st.

Also, happy 20th anniversary to the first game.

So I've been considering getting Pikmin 3 DX. But I'm concerned about the Plasm Wraith. Particularly escorting Olimar through the cave with it in pursuit. Any tips? Does the leaving him in water trick still work?

And what happens when the game is finished?

Found a brief overview from Polygon. Seems like Bloom may be more of a "zen" relaxing thing.

I don't know about leaving him in the water since I haven't done that in a long time, but I'm pretty sure it's the same as in the original release. Plasm Wraith is pretty slow though so it's really not that hard to deal with. I usually just have Alph and Charlie take all the Pikmin and solve the cave's puzzles while Brittany just runs Go Here circles in the first area to keep away from the Wraith. Once the cave is close to finished I just have Brittany catch up with the other two while they solve the final few puzzles.

After beating the game, you get the ending, and then if you wanna keep playing you have to just rewind to a previous day or start over entirely. Deluxe also unlocks some extra Side Stories when you beat the game for the first time, I believe, and Ultra-Spicy difficulty if you beat it on Hard.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to think. It's a nice idea in principle and I'm glad the series is getting any new material, but the concept doesn't seem very... Pikminy, I guess. It looks like the focus of the app is to modify the virtual map by making flowers grow as you walk along, and I don't really see a connection between that and the series' overall character.

Anyways, I’m thinking about playing through the main games. I do have all 3, so I don’t have to spend money on them unless I want 1 on Wii and 2 on Game Cube.

I could also use this to test my new upscaler to see how Game Cube games look on it.

Chico, I think you might have a toxic relationship with these people on a fricken mobile. That is not a good sign.

Outside of that, It seems alright.

So far, so humble. It feels more like a fitness app/activity log than it is a proper augmented reality game like Pokémon GO or Niantic's other offerings.

I don't think there's a real goal to it, all things considered, and I'm not getting too much from the community elements either- it's mainly just there for your own quality-of-life. Which fits given Miyamoto's involvement, it's a very "him" way to approach to that type of mobile game.

Well I have Pikmin 3 now. The function to retry the day is a lifesaver to say the least.

My main issues right now are sending Pikmin to work on a task like building tile bridges and when its done, they go back to the original site and stay there. Part of it is on me, for not micromanaging properly.

Also, when I whistle Pikmin I get more than I wanted, like how do I get only some of them.

Mostly, you just need to be careful to overlay the whistle's radius with only a part of the group you're whistling at.

So the controls say to press Y to switch Captains, but it requires I push down to whistle them apart. I saw Chuggaaconroy's videos where he could seemingly switch Captains without having to do this. I've also haven't been able to dodge to the side using the arrow buttons.

Never mind, I got the dodge whistle.

So I beat the game, but didn't 100% it. I tried to resume playing, but it won't let me. I could go to a previous day but it rewrites the save data for that and all following days. In particular, I didn't retrieve all of Olimar's data files. The badges also say I have 0 Exploration Notes.

To resume playing just go back to the immediate previous day. You're free to explore any of the five regions, but you'll have to repeat the final day to view the ending again.

Do you mean it won't be marked as completed?

There's also the concern of consuming 1 bottle of juice every day.

I'm not sure what you mean by that first question. As far as badges and unlocked side stories go the game will "remember" that you beat the game at least once, it's just your current save file will be rolled back to before.

As for the second, there's enough fruit on the planet to last you exactly 99 days if you collect it all, so you should be fine unless you were really dragging your feet. There's some very easy-to-get fruit in older regions now that you have Blue Pikmin if you need an immediate boost.

I collected every single piece of fruit.

That's what my first question from my previous post was referring to, the save file rolling back and the game remembering I completed it.

The game (as a whole) will remember you beat it, the save file will not until you defeat the Plasm Wraith again.
