tumblr get back up

Seriously.

I was hoping to see some 12/12/12 stuff today on tumblr. And then it went down. :/

now it's up, but it won't let me reblog anything

Following 400 blogs sucks up a lot of time, let me tell you.

I'm toying with the idea of making a tumblr showcasing pictures of stuff in stores that people reshelved extremely lazily.

Like, a slice of cheesecake from a supermarket's bakery, stuffed into one of the soda coolers at the checkout line.

Or a DVD abandoned on a case of beer.

And etc.

Do so! That's definitely an original idea.

I would so follow that.

Gamestop would be tagged in, like, half the posts.

I see that so often. And it's sad when I see frozen foods left out of the frozen section.

I'll probably start it soonish. I've started taking pictures of such things with my iPhone's camera when I'm doing the shopping and come across such things. Came across a new one just today.

I only wish I'd been thinking of taking pictures when I came across the aforementioned cheesecake. That was, like, the epitome of this.

I've heard that there's been a new change to the tumblr layout, but I haven't had it happen to my account yet. Has anyone been affected by it yet, and is it as horrible as I've been reading about?

If you don't log out, you apparently won't get affected.

I never log out if I can help it so I have no idea what it's like...

Yes, I've been affected by it. Basically, instead of taking you to a new page to create, edit, or reblog a post, it creates an in-window popup now instead (like retweeting on Twitter).

I'm okay with that, but it no longer autofills tags, and that I have a huge problem with, since a lot of my tags are fairly long.

I cannot deal with pop-up style stuff, I'm a multi-tab girl. I don't always want to tag and post my comments then and there, I want to do that latter after I'm done scrolling. My biggest compliant is that twitter and facebook don't have options like that and now the one solid feature tumblr had over them is being taken away. What a stupid move.

They're apparently trying to build up tumblr as a social networking site?

Which is weird because I seem to remember tumblr's purpose being a blogging site. And social networking isn't exactly possible if the easiest method of communication between users, reblogging, is made more difficult.

I haven't gotten any update yet.

Also apparently Tumblr Savior and Missing E won't work anymore.

Also, is it just me, or is it the case that whenever I check a tag on Tumblr, I always get the same results that I got when I checked the same tag several days ago? For instance, when I check "Retsupurae", I always get ones related to The Town With No Name/"True Shit", and not much in the way of responses to newer videos. It didn't use to be like this; back when it just listed entries in one large list that automatically expanded as you went down, as opposed to this "tile" format, it would list the newest stuff first...

Note that I don't have a Tumblr account, this is just an observation from a guy who occasionally checked it to see fan reactions for the helluvit.

So people apparently have a petition going around to make tumblr undo the update.

...I'm...Extremely skeptical that that will actually do anything.

Can anyone give me an example of a website changing programming after an update because the users made too much of a stink? With the caveats that 1. It must be a MAJOR site like facebook, 2. It has to be them UNDOING a change they just made, as opposed to making a change in response to a user demand 3. The website can't gradually make the change anyways. (Example, Facebook's gradual push towards giving you no chance to say no to things.) 4. The uproar isn't because of a legitimate security issue like hacking potential. (Again, I think facebook had an update that started automatically posting your location whether you liked it or not?)

Face it tumblr users, you're either going to have to get used to it like you do with every update, or leave. There won't be enough people leaving to do anything.
