This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.
e.g.
Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?
Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?
Get the idea?

How far right was Nazi Germany economically?
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Fairly. They did privatize a few industries and pretty much let business do whatever it liked, with a fairly light touch approach to regulation. And they had a tendency to rely on private contractors for arms supply that probably was not a good idea.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWhen you go to get laser eye surgery, what exactly is involved? Looking online they tell you that they use lasers to fix your eyes, but I can't find details about other stuff. Like, do they put drops in your eyes to keep them from moving around? Do they fit stuff on your eyes? Are you conscious for the procedure?

My dad says he got eye drops, plus a pill for relaxing purposes. He was conscious. This was ten years ago, so things may have changed.
Does anyone have a link for ye old stick-figure drawing of someone slapping someone else, which (I think?) Smokie would caption with "Don't do that."?
If a character who was born and raised in New York pronounces 'vehicle' as "vee-hickle", is that his natural pronunciation or is he being funny?
Sure the show's stupid but it's bright, fun, and you see grown men get punched in the face multiple times an episode. What's not to like?Like, vee-HICK-ul? That's not very common.
Fresh-eyed movie blogWhen Japan surrendered at the end of WWII they signed an agreement that said they couldn't increase their military without approval from the U.S.A. Hence, Japan technically doesn't have an army, it has "Self-Defence Force" and the States has considerable say in its operation. Does this agreement have an end date? When the agreement was drafted, was there a time-frame given for when Japan would have complete authority over its own armed forces again?
It's a part of the Japanese government's constitution itself known as Article 9.
Oh really when?Article 9 renounces warmaking "forever", but there has been strenuous debate about limiting or abolishing that article.

Fresh-eyed movie blogCan Third Way politics (as advocated by Bill Clinton) be considered a form of libertarianism?
Peace is the only battle worth waging.I realize that this would be better suited to a car or automobile thread, but as far as I can tell we don't have one.
in 1935 the Blue Bird made a new world land speed record exceeding 300 mph. Right now several car companies are all hoping to be the first to make a production car that will be the first to go faster than 300 mph. I'm assuming that the reason no modern car has passed 300 mph is because some aspect of the Blue Bird and other record setting vehicles that came after is not street legal. What specifically let those cars from back in the day go so fast that modern cars are not allowed to do? Did those record cars use wheels that would never be considered street legal? Were they just too big?
Why is Hollywood making so many reboots?
Because making an original film is too much of a gamble, remakes are less of a gamble as people who saw the ordinal might end seeing the new version
New theme music also a boxIt's not much more than it ever was. The Maltese Falcon that we know was the third adaptation of the book in a decade, and the classic Wizard Of Oz is arguably the tenth Oz movie made. How many times did they remake A Star Is Born? We're just keenly aware of all the remakes now because we have to live through them, while only the greatest works from earlier times are remembered now.
But there are some factors making it worse. Business in any industry has rarely been more risk averse, especially since the 2009 crisis, and art without risk is uninspiring art that's collapsed under the weight of the committee that made it. The international market, where "American movie" means "a light show that doesn't have to make sense because the translation will be hard to follow anyway", has never been more relevant.
Hollywood was running out of gas in the late 60s and early 70s, and execs noticed the bright young filmmakers and made them the celebrity directors that made the big hits of the late 70s and the 80s. Now, those celebrity directors are the Hollywood establishment and are running out of gas, and it's hard to say in the moment if the next wave of bright young filmmakers are on their way to the top right now. In 20 years, we may remember this as the decade where the powerhouses were cutting their teeth.

How do you embed images in posts? Specifically, avatars?
I, Furudo Erika... have duct tape..!use the image uploader,it's on page where you edit pages
New theme music also a boxTo embed an image into a forum post, you just paste the URL to the image right into your post. This only works with images uploaded to the TVT servers, though, which includes images uploaded for wiki pages and forum avatars.
Using your avatar as an example, writing

in your post will result in

Well, the immense cost of building new facilities that will probably be abandoned afterward is making a lot of cities hesitant to bid for hosting one.
I'm pretty sure Beijing turned their main stadium into an indoor water park, but most are lucky to be able to make their buildings community centers.
