Pretty sure in 2016th, Doom Slayer and the Betrayer were one and the same. He lost his son, gave into the temptations, saw Came Back Wrong result, went 200% mad, got some upgrades on the ongoing murderfest.

Eternal uses elements that were used in 2016 but retcons and twists and bends them for its own.

They never connected the two in 2016. That was just theorizing.

I think there was a codex entry in 2016 that said the Betrayer made the Praetor Suit for the Slayer, which would mean he wasn't the Betrayer. That and the Sentinel ghosts you see in the last level salute you, which wouldn't make sense if you'd betrayed them.

One of these days, I'm gonna go through this thread's last few pages once I beat the Campaign.

By the way, BattleMode is not an easy mode to get around. In my experience, the demons usually win, because it's a bit easy to corner a Slayer, especially when people like myself don't have the experience to know what to do.

In this case the Betrayer was a demon that made the Praetor suit for the Slayer, it's not the same Betrayer as the one that allowed himself to be tempted by the Dearg Priests.

Actually if you're talking about who I think you're talking about, they're actually referred to as the Wretch.

The Demon that helped Doomguy in 2016's lore didn't appear in Eternal right? Or is it the not!Samuel guym?

In the 2016 game the armor is given to the Doom Slayer by "the wretch". This is not the Betrayer. The same scriptures say the armor was made in hell, but that flies in the face of it having English words on it. So it's a fair bet the tablet isn't necessarily accurate. And in Eternal it also clashes with the Betrayer having his own Praetor suit.

The Wretch could be Hayden. He did put Doomguy through the Divinity Engine which has some tie to Argent Energy.

Could explain the Praetor suit having english words on it Sam Hayden fixed it with UAC tech/

Every demon Was Once a Man, being soul drained husks that got supernaturally warped, distorted into demonic forms. The Wretch used to be someone, but this particular demon held onto its old morality, had traces of its old soul in it. Could have been a botched demonification. Who it used to be, is not clear. My theories are: a former UAC scientist or one of Doomguy's soldier buddies from classic Doom era or a fallen Sentinel

Either way, once the virtual conference happens, somebody has to ask Hugo a lot of questions. Some things need answers badly

Okay so out of boredom browsing on Youtube

I found this... he has cut voice lines from PS 2 port Quake III: Revolution. This should be Narmy but I find it legit creepy. and...seeing the way he also speaks in Doom Eternal flashbacks, just more guttural and angrier, I feel devs listened to these unused voice lines as an inspiration, just less sociopathic and only for hatred of demons

It wasn't though xD The invasion started in Europe.

I love that Quake III voice much better than his Eternal voice. Has a lot more gravitas to it and isn't as overblown.

overblown? You gotta understand Doomguy in flashbacks was suffering from extreme PTSD. It shows he still has emotions and humanity despite fighting in Hell for who knows how long and he was already suffering before the events of Doom 64. In comparison, the one for Revolution talks like an unnatural overly sadistic madman with robotic monotone and being edgy

And UV with Fast Monsters plus Pistol Starting every level is... great. I get a lot of challenge. I die, I go on super low health but I'm fine. I love it

Yeah, gotta say I prefer our Doomguy to the one from Quake 3 Rev. Sounds more like what a Brutalguy would sound like: buckets of insecurity and fragile/toxic masculinity.

I sure hope they're saving Erebus, one of the six archdemons featured in Doom Eternal Artbook for DLC. Design is great, you have this Fat Bastard sorceror demon. In final game, you have Kalibas The Sightless Judge who's just a minor obstacle and punch its brains out.

This is borderline Warhammer 40k stuff here. Doom Slayer has work cut out for him. Of course, this Doom enthusiast thinks that the Absolute Rulers is that maybe they're "amused" by Doomguy, that he's the one who made any, even if tiny progress in thwarting their plans. That maybe it's all just a game to them. I like this interpretation a lot tbh

OF COURSE, I did speak with a troper over a week ago about contents of it and some things might be outdated. Like with Erebus, but I am hoping the nature of Hell itself stays the same. This is so cool

So, that challenge about killing 20 Frozen Whiplashes is a real pain in the ass unless you've heavily invested in the Ice Bomb upgrades for your Praetor Suit.

Oh, and I took my sweet time 100%'ing all of the Super Gore Nest.

I missed the Archvile challenge in Nekroval Part 2. But hey, got the Tyrant one nice and easy.

I like...98 percent'd Super Gore Nest. Only thing I missed was being able to do three different glory kills on Pinkies.

Have you tried using low-damage weapons?

It was more the Pinkys got caught up in the chaos and I couldn't really afford to waste time on them. I'll go through it again later.
