There's the cover of Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time from 1986, possibly.

Nice. I always had, thanks to DOOM, fascination with the supernatural, the magical cybernetically augmenting themselves. All the demons that steal human technology and change themselves willingly.

Always been a fascinating concept to me.

Hmm... Not quite what you describe, but I am reminded of a book that described demons essentially skimming tech from humanity, keeping themselves just ahead of humanity's leading edge. Amongst other things, they had cloned bodies—specifically, what we would identify as The Greys.

I might actually get the new ports.

As for the BFG Edition, I might save that for another day.

Shadowrun in the 80's had a lot of cyberpsychosis stuff, merging of cyber and supernatural - but not DEMONS per se, as cyber negates magic (Or "humanity" in terms of stats)

Prime example is Glory from Dragonfall who heavily cyberised herself in order to hide from the Shadowrun equivalent of The Devil.

There's a lot of body horror cybernetics (Virus; Universal Soldier) but magic and cyber... not so much that comes to mind.

OT of the game, never finished the 2016 version - got a bit too obsessive on the collectibles. Enjoyed the madness of it though. The sequel seems to indicate that SOMEONE is modifying the demons though - a pro-demon human? Collaborators? WHY would you work WITH hell? Didn't that doctor from the first game learn it tends to go BADLY?

How would they know?

Last anyone heard, she was MIA on Mars, and even then, she had an entire division working on weaponising demons. Only Sam had any real objections to it.

Perhaps the cult behaviour spread to the UAC's Earth Corporate Leadership in the interim between games?

Khan Maykr may have something to do with it, he is featured in box art and wallpaper over a super gore nest and...

It might also be one of the hell priests, the traitors. I can't wait to learn more about the nefarious trio.

Like with Doomhunter, whoever that Tom Kenny/Mark Hamill hybrid voice was, I am 100% sure he's responsible for current mancubi, arachnatrons, carcasses, whiplashes, dread knights, tyrants and more. I'd exclude zombies and revenants, seeing as they're former humans...yeah.

The fact we might contend with a Playing with Syringes Mad Scientist in a DOOM game who created all these cybernetically augmented and enhanced demons or fused them with technology and metal and wires and stuff, is thrilling! I might be wrong. I do forget Olivia Pierce did try to cybernetically enhance mancubi in previous game but that's just it. If given more time and stuff, I feel she would've given every other demon the treatment as well.

I still think it sucks that Phillip L. Clarke passed away years ago, imagine how utterly kickass would be if he voiced a character, one of the hell priests in DOOM Eternal

Okay my post above isn't that well thought out but I am 100% sure Khan Maykr and the hell priest trio have a lot to do with demon modifications and augmentations.

So I wanted to ask... who here played Freedoom? What are your thoughts on it?

It is exactly like Doom in mechanics. Everything mechanically is 100% same with no deviation but artistically, cosmetically and in sounds it's as different as it can get.

For most part, levels are nice but some are not so good and some levels aren't 100% finished which shows. C 3 M 5 for example is a blank room with text saying they need help to make it. You can't properly access chapter 3 secret level without use of cheats.

Tho for demon replacements, I have mixed thoughts about them. Best replacements are zombies and blood worms. Zombies replace former humans and they look more freaky and blood worms are mongolian death worm like things with a Lamprey Mouth. Others? Serpentipedes don't look intimidating, they look too goofy, trilobytes don't look as threatening as they should (I like the Y looking iris tho), pain lords and bringers look decent but have these lizard sock puppets they spew green energy balls at you. Assault Tripods look positively disgusting but not as badass as Cyberdemon and Large Technospider looks so dumb. Lost soul replacements, deadflares, look cooler but... they have only a single animation frame for attacking and being hit!

Phase 2 is even more mixed. Flamebringers (replacing archviles) look poorly done and horribly pixellated, dark soldiers look wonky (replacing revenants). I guess I like combat slugs (replacing mancubi) tho.

Textures themselves are nice but I don't understand what's up with the snake texture that replaces the Hell...slimy organ things that come in brown and pink. I'm serious, it shows pixellated snakes or something.

I guess I can excuse things because it is 100% free. I enjoyed it for most part but some things could use some touching up.

Soundtrack is damn good tho.

Uhhh... guys? And mods? How ok is it to talk about leaks? Because I just found out on 4chan board a poster described/explained every detail of DOOM Eternal.

Lots of juicy information.

Provided it all is true.

Is it against discussing leaks?

Should the DOOM Eternal page be locked as well?

A lot of it seems very plausible. I will say about this: possible power boosters for singleplayer to make it easier...?

What the fuck Bethesda. I hope that's not true but a part of me... yeah.

It's like that '16 leak years ago which contained little about plot and gameplay progression itself and just many unused stuff.

So I decided to take a break from my usual G Zdoom to try the other good source port, PR Boom+.

I think it feels pretty good to play with but sadly some of my personal favourite heavily modded WA Ds (Helm's Deep, TurboCharged ARCADE!, Reelism and others) don't work on it. Ah well.

Also beat Ultimate doom on PS 4. Fuck Hell Beneath, seriously.

Been playing the Switch port of Doom 3 and is it me or does the game get substantially harder after the Hell level? I don't remember it being this hard on the PC when I had my trusty keyboard and mouse![lol] But yeah, lot more unfair enemy placements and tons of rough combinations and very little health from Hell onwards.

They probably forgot to balance it more fairly for console players.

Also, I got around to watching Bethesda's video that's basically a better quality version of the stream I watched on Quake Con, and let me tell you, I am stoked, because I'd imagine that getting used to the new "combat puzzle" and momentum is gonna be fun to get used to.

I wonder if there's plans to have an Arcade Mode alongside the standard camapaign, BATTLEMODE and Invasion-enabled campaign.

I swear, if I'm lucky enough to do that Let's Play Series, I'm gonna be stoked.

[up]I originally played it on the Xbox, don't recall it becoming too difficult after escaping Hell the first time. Though the game definitely does become stingy with the armor and health items near the end.

They also kinda push the Soul Cube as a thing after you escape Hell. Not that i'm a fan of it simply because its charges don't stack. Killed 5 monsters to power it on then 5 more because you wanted an extra charge? NOPE, that one first charge is all you get.

Honestly forgot that thing even existed, you were always better off just focusing on the weapons you had. Only time I ever really had to use it was against the final boss, and that's because it's mandatory to damage the Cyber Demon.

Yeah. Made for a really shit fight it did.

Somehow it got into New Doom as a decoration. A fitting punishment. As one tumblr user put it

""USE US." No thanks, I'd rather have a GOOD fight with the Cyberdemon"

What, shoot some demons and charge up the piece of crap magic alien artifact that can't stack its fucking charges to make fighting Hell easier in the hope that its attack will actually work? Why can't I just shoot at it until it dies?

You two do forget it is mandatory for Nightmare difficulty because of your HP constantly degenerating.

It is a rather poor way to force you to use something.

Anyway, Doom 3 might be harder on Switch but I stand by what I said. The 312 shotgun shell ammo doesn't lie. Ever.
