So which ad was worse? That Daikatana "make you his (not typing it here)" poster, or the "Anime fan on prom night" commercial?
Speaking of Daicraptana, download unofficial patch 1.3
Does not magically fix everything but bumps game from bad to so-so to good (at times).
@Ars: Either homing hitscan or projectile or chain-magic effect. Doesnt the staff under tome effect have knockback already?
When you power up other weapons in Hexen II, they become something!
I like big maps. Oh yeah Ars, give Hedon a try someday! Freeware, standalone and while it has violent moments, has puzzle solving and intuitive level design. I feel it might have the things you like in Heretic in it
Aww. Okay, so hmmmm... I gots nothing.
If you want, there is a mod for Doom 3, simply titled Phobos. Besides typical Doom 3 combat made faster, it is primarily focused on story and characters of all things in anything Doom ever. There are demons, yes, but they aren't... as important to story? Hard to describe. Just obstacles to survival. Second episode TBA.
Heh, don't worry about it—I'm not urgently looking for an FPS anyway. I don't play as often as I once did, and I'm still making my way through that Heretic map-pack! Still, I do appreciate the suggestions. ^_^
I daresay that something to my taste will turn up eventually!
That Doom 3 mod sounds interesting. I haven't installed Doom 3 in ages, admittedly!
Feel free to drop suggestions as well! I'd like to hear your picks ^^
I intend to, should any come to mind (and I remember)! ^_^
Hmm... The only one that occurs to me right now is the aforementioned Nightmare Reaper. (The dev's Twitter page.) I'm not hugely enamoured of the art-style, but I think that it looks interesting, fun, and mechanically a little different to the normal sort of FPS.
If I recall (and have it) correctly, it has some light roguelike-ish elements: I think that the levels are generated, and any given level provides only a few weapons drawn randomly from a rather large overall set. On top of that, one can gain perks that alter your current weapons.
But I don't think that it has permadeath!
It looks like it could be really interesting and fun to play, I think.
I saw some sprites, I feel the pc's face sprite looks a bit too simple and her drawn hands are too thin but so far good. Love the huge, huge selection of weapons!
I... have no interest in STRAFE tho. I watched gmanlives's video (despite my usual dislike, he does have some insight in things... from time to time and doesn't fuck it up like he did for Romero's SI 6 IL) and wow. Wow.
There's another game I was interested and followed it, also a retro-inspired shooter with blocky models, environment and unfiltered low res textures. Weapons were randomly made, with attributes. Like barrels, gunstock and chassis and more determining damage, flight speed, recoil, rate of fire, more, that stuff. It looks good but that's in theory, in practice we'd have to see it. You had elemental damage types that could cripple enemies, acid destroys enemy armor for example and some powerup perks. Also procedurally generated environment with enemies getting stronger and stronger the game goes on.
It's called BLOODCRUSHER II and it didn't update for years now which is a DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN shame. https://www.indiedb.com/games/BLOODCRUSHER-ii
There's also a page on it on this site but... yeah. Someone should put Development Hell on its page.
Still stuck on Level 2 of Inferno, even though I'm playing in Hurt Me Plenty level.
Still trying to figure out how to start monster infighting. XP
Oh, that's easy: you gotta get the monsters to hit each other while they're firing at you.
Forgot to be more specific:
I meant to say, how to start monster infighting in this level in a way that would kill the monsters by themselves.
...still not clear enough. Some early versions had the infighting code causing the demons to commit suicide if hurt but not killed with an explosive barrel.
Uh... You don't? I may not have played all of Ultimate Doom, but I don't think you can actually make them kill each other. How badly low on ammo are you?
Speaking of stuff, I'm playing Freedoom on GZ Doom right now!
So Freedoom is essentially freeware Doom that's just cosmetically rebuilt from ground up. It's not fully complete but it's been done so because of probable copyright issues or something.
I'm a cheapskate but getting it through other easy means doesn't appeal to me.
So yeah, exactly like DOOM, just replace all sprites, textures and sounds and levels...
Now to get Hedon running.
Also, Hedon is awesome! I love exploring, even if it takes me almost an hour to figure it all out. The fight at near end of MAP 03: Barrack is one doozy. I died almost 20 times there... doesn't help I saved the game at 10 hp. Frick me.
Oh and you have mirrors and you can see Zan's shapely but buff figure! The thighhighs, the gloves, the muscles...
Double post but I gotta share this:
Okay so, uhh... is this in top 10 most unlikely crossovers? Coz Doom Slayer is teaching Rapunzel how to shoot the heavy assault rifle.
Imagine if she had to deal with the Heavy Cannon.
And in return Rapunzel teaches him how to wield a frying pan.
Yes, you can make demons fight and kill each other in Ultimate Doom; heck, some levels are built around that, and it's part of the code.
Freedoom exists because, while the Doom source code is free (as in freedom... and also it doesn't cost any money), the wads are not. Freedoom is an effort to make a complete set of free, copyfree wads to have a completely free (in every sense) Doom experience. I played it a while ago, and the maps vary wildly in theme and quality, but there are some definitely talented designers working on it.
In rare cases, you can make imps fight each other if imps are close to barrels and one accidentally sets it off, splash hurting them.
Their projectiles are hardcoded to not harm each other but same does not apply for claws.
Also Vampire, wouldn't it apply to all games then? What about Half-Life mods? I don't understand why there's been such effort for Freedoom but not other games... legit curious. I don't mind understanding more.

So, I'm thinking: you know the Equipment Power II Rune?
Could I use the Siphon Grenades with that equipped to enhance my Rich Get Richer Rune?
What does that rune do? Armor drops boosted? You could try. That sounds like a dangerous combo tho.
Also, unrelated but wanna talk about it, Hedon is fun but is so annoying at times. I hate dealing with cerberi who zig zag around and tend to flame your ass and/or pounce at you and warlocks, damned elf bitches shooting poison projectiles at you and homing projectiles too! Cultists are annoying as well when they throw spikes embedded in their backs.
Yeesh I wish some weapons were hitscan, fighting large groups is hard.
I am loving the environments and setting!
Also Zan (the creator) is a cheeky one. So across the game you can find NSFW fan art of orcs and others. I am serious.
Equipment Power II boosts equipment used with the Left Bumper on Xbox One.
Rich Get Richer gives me unlimited ammunition for standard weapons if my armour value is above a designated value.
And seriously? ...Well, it can't be as bad as HDoom.
I don't think it would synergize. Armor is not an usable equipment, just a pickup.
Well game itself is gory and violent and there are Stripperific and Chainmail Bikini (could be in a way justified thanks to power amulets Zan and others wear, which provides some magical armor. Even demonic male pit lords wear loincloths and nothing else and do not look monstrously ugly) wearing orcs and goblin girls but for most part there is only that. It is these few fan art pictures in secret areas you find. Still nothing too explicit ^^` ok to correct myself, many are borderline NSFW but that's it.
It is weird, I remember seeing Zan (the character) before on those sites before when... yeah, when I think about it. It feels awkward lol
