I just posted the cannon video directly down below, so yeah.

So DS comes up to a console, presses a button, the cannon activates and attempts loading a new bombshell thingy. Instead of bombshell, DS pushes it away and positions himself to be fired from it to another location! Hahaha

I have to say, devs really put little details here and there, like Dopefish on Chainsaw blade, Daisy being spotted and a possible reference to The Serpent Riders https://the-goddamn-doomguy.tumblr.com/post/185502638170

https://the-goddamn-doomguy.tumblr.com/post/185501978780 this is awesome! I love how id are considerate with this. (Doom Slayer's face even through visors resembles classic Doom HUD face)

Continuing playing Doom 1993.

Currently I am on level 4, I think? So far I got a handgun, shotgun, and chaingun. I tried to get the chainsaw but gave up.

Man, navigation in good old day games is hard! [lol]

E 1 M 4? Command Control? Hmmm good level. Fuck I didn't play OG Doom for literally years now I forgot details.

It's all keycard hunting that much I know!

Keep humping the walls for secrets or activate switches to do so. The usual...

Episode 1 is a test run, Episode 2 and 3 get harder and more lucrative with level design and maze-like navigation. You're doing good dRoy!

Trivia: did you know there used to be a swastika shape in one of the rooms on the map in 1.0 version? It was changed in 1.4.

I am yet to discover a single Secret so far. Every time I advance to a new level, I fear that I may have missed a weapon. XD

Episode 1 lacks Plasma Gun and BFG 9000, you just missed the chainsaw. The chainsaw itself ain't a bad weapon but one thing you should know is...

Using it on enemies up close locks your screen to them until they die or let go off the trigger. Can get annoying...

People did all kinds of insane walkthroughs. Pistol only, or fists only, Pacifist Runs only... hell, the speedrunning scene active to this day and someone managed to knock a 20 year old record few months ago!

But yeah, missing a chainsaw ain't much, I think it appears in later missions of episode 1.

Cacodemons are most troublesome enemies in episode 1 because they're spongy, with 400 hp. Hitscan zombies are annoying BUT as long as there's a pillar/wall between you and them you're good.

Wait... checking wikia, you missed an opportunity finding the rocket launcher in E 1 M 3: Toxin Refinery. XD even then, rocket ammo is quite sparse until later levels. It is in E 1 M 7: Computer Station that you "officially" find it. Incidentally, it is most complex level in episode 1, the level after it is simple.

You also missed an opportunity at a secret level unfortunately, E 1 M 9: Military Base, accessed from Toxin Refinery XD

[up]Damn right. Some levels are downright brutal...

I really need to replay OG Doom and Doom II these days. Find a nice sourceport and use few mods like Smooth Doom (makes sprite animations smoother).

Oh, man! I did miss a whole lot of stuff.

Oh well. So far I haven't come across any enemy that I couldn't kill by just running around them ane shooting them with shotgun. evil grin

I started with level 3 difficulty and I imagine that tactics might not work as much in higher difficulties.[lol]

Is all good mang. Do mot worry, at Hurt Me Plenty difficulty it isn't bad.

Just run around enemies, circle strafe, dodge fireballs or take a cover occasionally. Usual old school fps tactics XD. Hitscanners such as rifle and shotgun zombies take priority first.

It is surprisingly easy to kite enemies, especially pinkies (who can just chomp, nothing else).

I clocked over 300 hours in Overwatch so I am very familiar with kiting, all right. [lol]

Oh, and my first encounter with Shotgun Guy resulted in my first death in this game. I think it was at Phobos Lab? Anyhow, they kept up popping out and dealt massive damage so I ended up dying. I initially felt kinda embarassed dying at a soldier mob, but it got a bit better when I looked it up and they were supposed to be at least somewhat stronger. [lol][lol]

Hoping Doom Eternal has something approaching being on the Doom Slayer's level.

My biggest problem with Doom 2016 (not that it's a big problem I still adored the game) is that the forces of hell are kiiinda treated like a joke when compared to the marine.

Yeah, id said that the Marauder was intended as a demonic version of the Slayer. Though whether that means it will be a consistent mini-Boss level enemy or some boss that you have to fight multiple times across the game, who knows.

I firmly believe Doom '16 needs bigger demon count. I'd not have individual demons on par with Demon Slayer, maybe Barons of Hell being treated as tough mini-bosses.

If I could do something, I'd increase total demon count by 4 to 10 times. Maybe just 4x, maybe 10x, maybe in-between.

OG Doom had dozens of demons on screen at once. Doom II upped the ante!

I always felt Doom 2016 sadly underplayed that.

Also, dRoy, I am not sure if you're playing with mouse and keyboard and able to look up/down and jump, but if not, some levels have annoying puzzles relying reaching top running speed and needing to time it right to get to another platform.

Doom 2016 is AFTER the Slayer had nearly genocided the demons, and their population is just barely recovering from his rampage.

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!

I always found that weird. You see, Doom Slayer has been in sarcophagus for eons.

You mean to tell me during that time spending in a coma in the sarcophagus, demons didn't repopulate to the original or near original number? Did DS cripple demonic breeding... things or facilities?

Did I by accident miss something?

Don't forget how intimiately acquainted the UAC got with the demons. I wouldn't put it past them to do some mass converting, either in spirit or form.

I mean who's to say the Baron of Hell wasn't originally just a UAC janitor?

Maybe. I do know trying to create Revenants and Possessed came back to bite them hard in the asses.

I wonder what exactly happened to our Sammy boy. He's been roughed up pretty badly!

Checking r/doom and elsewhere, because Banjo and Kazooie are in Smash (again, never played it and have very, very limited knowledge) they think Doomguy has a chance based on... leaks?

I am not sure. Nintendo is gonna veto and confirm possibilities untrue. No way they're ever gonna try it, regardless of Doom having a history on being on Nintendo systems.

I said this in the Smash leak thread, but Doom Slayerguy would feel so neutered in Smash Bros. He belongs in Mortal Kombat where he can really cut loose.

Dhiruxide Since: Dec, 2016

Their reasoning is you don't need DS himself, OG Doomguy would do the same. OG Doom is cartoony in many ways.

Besides, what about Bayonetta? Is she neutered in it? I did not play Bayonetta but from what I heard and seen, she's like a cosmic angel slaying badass.

Rynnec Since: Dec, 2010

Only in the fanservice aspect. Bayo isn't anywhere near as gorey as Doom is, it's plenty violent to be sure, but like Devil May Cry it's not exactly one of the franchise's core identities.

Have we seen any shots of Hayden in Eternal yet?

People found creative ways for him, someone even wrote how he would function. Can't remember where I read it...

Yeah, Sammy boy is in the game and he is in shambles! Lower half missing alongside with his right arm, exposed wiring and sparks, hanging from a hook as two UAC personnel tend to him.

I'm positive there is a fair amount of symbolism to unpack there.

Dhiruxide Since: Dec, 2016

I suck at symbolism, so eh.

Also, instead just posting tumblr posts, here's the video in which DS fires himself out of the cannon!

Also, despite title saying BFG 10,000 that is a misconception, that there is actually Seismic Long...something Cannon.

It's actually heartwarming that VEGA is alive and well. Maybe he's actually integrated in his praetor suit?

Also thinking about it while all weapon mods are pretty great I'm a bit unsure of microwave mod for Plasma Gun.

The shtick is once it locks onto a target you project a devastating beam that cooks target until they explode. The bigger the demon, the more time it takes but bigger the explosion. I am not sure if that's gonna be practical in gameplay when demons zip left and right...

Also, one of the weapons will have a freeze ray mod, according to the arstechnica article I read over a day ago.

I do have a concern... Slayer seems to have slower running speed than in previous game. I know there's dashing but that's meh.

I reached Computer Station. In the Central Processing, I died second time. Cause of death: accidentally shooting a barrel right in front of me trying to kill Pinky (I think). [lol]

Lessons I learned:

  • Doomguy is surprisingly fragile.
  • Divide and conquer.
  • Remember, shotgun is reliably powerrul in the distance as well.
  • If a room is full of both enemies and barrels, shoot at one of the barrel and get the hell out of there. Then return and kill surviving enemies.evil grin

For a game nearly 30 years old, it's still damn fun. [lol][tup]

Sounds about right!

It's actually 25 and half years old, it hit its 25th anniversary last December on 10th.

I blame myself for not posting the trailer on this thread but oh well... it's still the year of DOOM!

Yeah Doomguy can be fragile. Found any spheres yet? Megasphere grants 200 HP and armor. Wait it isn't in first Doom, that's in Doom II. You gotta find secrets my dude xD, you might find a Supercharge (grants 200 HP when picked up) somewhere!

Green armor only absorbs 30% of damage, blue does 50%. Tho I wish it was 60%...

Computer Station's music is among best in game. So sinister and ominous!

Partial Invisibility powerup sucks. When up against imps, they fire all over the place you can't reliably dodge. It does mess with hitscanners aim tho.

Enjoy your rocket launcher when you find it ^^ it's damn powerful! And fires really fast.
