Certain jokes are why I love fanslations sometimes. That particular line made me nostalgic for MangaStream

MangaStream had excellent scanlation quality but oftentimes I felt like there translations were full of Spicing Up The Subtitles to it's detriment. The most obvious tell for me nowadays is fan tranlsations still calling Luffy's attack gomu gomu no. I don't get that. That's very easily translatable as gum-gum; fits the major contours. If you wanna be literal, just say rubber rubber. I don't understand why you have to keep that...

That's not what Spice Up the Subtitles, that's just keeping the Japanese terminology for no reason.

Same with nakama.

Spice Up the Subtitles is when they ramp up the amount of swearing in the dialogue to make it sound more "mature".

Mind you, that's not always a bad thing, and might even be necessary in some contexts: as pointed out by the trope page, English doesn't have respect levels, so making someone swear can be a good way to show they're being disrespectful.

And it would be weird in an adult aimed (NOT porn mind you) where no one swore.

No I know that. MangaStream often added a bunch of unnecessary swearing. That was a different problem I had than gomu gomu (should've made that clear, sorry). One Piece in spite of it's wide demographic appeal is a Shonen series in japan. For young boys. And while cultural differences are definitely a thing, that only jives so much. It's a not a world where I see f-bombs being dropped left and right. Maybe one shit once in a blue-moon. The world feels more like an idealistic tv-14 show rather than an edgy tv-ma show.

I still say "Akuma No Mi" and "Shichibukai" out of reflex of those fan translations.

My eyebrow always twitched in irritation whenever someone called Luffy the "5th Yonkou"

[up][up]Well, those fan translations had enough repercussions to make Akuma no Mi, Shichibukai, Yonkou, Tenryuubito, etc. still be what it's used in the Brazilian official simulpub and the anime sub and dub, so wouldn't it be less reflex and more continued exposure?

New anime episode... Honestly, I'm okay with how they did it. The anime was never gonna make it as snappy as the manga. But I feel like, by making actual flashbacks to Robin's flashback (heheh), & having parts that are clearly the illusion, they kind of keep them seperate, and can say that the flashback time isn't really happening, so Robin is still seeing through the illusion almost right away as she did in the manga. That's how I interpreted it, anyway.

Otherwise, not to much to write home about this episode. The stuff I've been waiting for comes in the next two. And... to be honest, I didn't like the end of Franky's fight in the manga either, so the anime probably wasn't gonna change it. And it didn't. But Heliceratops is still hilarious, and one of the funniest bits of Wano, so I can't say I dislike Franky's fight.

I'm virtually certain that Franky vs. Sasaki was planned to be longer, but sadly it got squished between the break week for the Olympic opening ceremonies and the one for the closing ceremonies, so my guess is Oda decided to do a done-in-one.

Eh, if you include the bit with Nami and Usopp running through, Franky vs Sasaki got about as much panel-time as Jimbei vs Who's Who. The direction in the first half of this episode sucked, though, you couldn't make out any of the action because it was so zoomed in on the character's faces.

I found an interesting theory about Film: Red. Basically, Uta's songs, aside from the first and last one, reference the 5 stages of grief. Denial: I'm Invincible. Anger: Backlight. Bargaining: Fleeting Lullaby. Depression: Tot Musica. Acceptance: The World's Continuation.

Speaking of subtitles I remember the anime depending on the subs would have these power theme subtitles whenever someone uses an attack

Those were fun

You know, it's really funny to read Wano and then look back on Dressrosa. Kanjuro was in full "unhelpful fake traitor" mode the whole time and he STILL did more than Kin'emon. Kin'emon didn't do SHIT in Dressrosa, all he did was impersonate Doflamingo and save Kanjuro.

Damn, can't believe the episode cut away from Kaido and Yamato's blast breaths connecting. Disappointing.

Especially since the manga didn't do that. Maybe they're saving it for next episode? I dunno, it was weird.

Apropos of nothing, but I wonder if we'll ever see Sabo heat up enough to change the color of his flames. If Sanji can do it, surely a guy who's literally made of fire can?

I want to see this scene! Can anyone help?

* In the anime, Sengoku eats all of Garp's rice crackers to find some way to punish him for being so carefree about his grandson Luffy causing so much chaos for the Marines. Hilariously, it appears to have worked.

I found it in english dub, if that's okay. You may want to spoiler tag the "grandson Luffy" part of your post, in case that's a twist Diana didn't know yet.

Anyway, here you go.

Since Diane has already met him, I can say this without worry of spoilers, but having Sengoku voiced by the same guy as Fuhrer King Bradley from Fullmetal Alchemist is just a perfect chef's kiss of a casting decision.
