If you think about it out of the main strawhats only Luffy (and maybe Sanji) didn't have someone important to him die... this should be interesting...

Anyhow, a character death outside of the backstory would actually be interesting. The Darkest Hour atmosphere during the Water 7 arc was one of the best moments of the series, and is an excellent starting point for a climb towards more crowning moments.

my computer's been down, so I'll be on rarely for quite some time. I will say this, though: good week across the board for the big 3 manga. Also, are you joking? Sanji had one of the worst pasts of all of them. Of all time!! Everyone he knew on his original ship died, he nearly drowned in a storm, and he and Zeff went over a month without food, to the point that it nearly made Sanji insane.

I personally disagree. That's nothing compared to what Robin went through (everyone she knew and/or cared about died and she spent 20-plus years as a constantly betrayed hunted fugitive).

did Sanji really have anyone he was close to die though? I do see your point however, only Luffy didn't have anyone important (Higuma doesn't matter) die in his story

We don't really know with Sanji. All we know about his life prior to being on the passenger ship Orbit was that he was born in the North Blue and raised so he Wouldn't Hit A Girl.

Ace dies, but manages to thank everyone for everything before passing on. Ankiu is about to brag before he sees the look on Luffy's face. He instead remarks while Ace was trash even for a pirate and didn't resemble his father, he can finally tell Luffy is now clearly Dragon's son.

Unrelated: I am really, really psyched to see the anime's treatment of the Whitebeard War. Considering how fast-paced the battle is, there's plenty of room for the animators to pad it out by showing us, say, an extra five minutes of Kizaru and Marco wailing on each other...

I can't believe that a non-One Piece fan is bringing in spoilers for the next chapter...
