Whew, I've never taken a red eye before, and I've never jetlagged before; I should have taken the train, it's pretty bad.
On the other hand, it was my birthday, and I got to watch Max Headroom, which is really making me think of Shadowrun.
Sounds like the standard setup; comlink, glasses, headset, armor/clothes. We should compile a 'standard list' of that sort of thing.
- B&E tools can be handy, though here they're probably more a backup to your hacker buddies.
- Cuffs and such.
- Medkit; never leave home without it.
Were you thinking of owning a vehicle, or taking the bus?
Heh, not that great, but a hilarious weapon; the Macauitl, a big stick with obsidian nails stuck in it.
Are you planning on joining my game? Would you want to move the character chat to that thread?

[[tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=12919183980B30760200 Liveblog of]] John Carter Of MarsSadly, due to timezone difference, I can't play with you. Also, re: breaking and entering - I don't think I have any skills related to that. Guns, swords, being nice to customers - sure. But not lockpicking (for once).
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisShadowrun is the first Tabletop RPG I ever played. Other than that I've played a Complete Mafia for D20 campaign here and there, one incredible session of Artesia: Adventures in the Known World, and some random demos at I-CON, which I attended every year until getting posted to Germany and then deployment to Afghanistan.
I actually played Shadowrun pretty extensively in college. Unfortunately it's difficult to find other RPG players in the Army without gaining a very negative stigma. Everyone I work with knows I read comic books and play video games, but RP Gs are a bridge too far, apparently. I own most of the fourth edition sourcebooks, including the 20th Anniversary main rulebook. I really miss playing that game.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Don't worry, there's gotta be an end to your tour and you're going to come back home intact. Then, you can kick back, find some people and play SR again.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisAlso, why the hell attempting to build an Adam Jensen Expy costs an UNGODLY amount of points? His arms alone, without hidden blades and strength boost allowing to punch through walls, are worth 30 points, to say nothing of Essence cost (a bare-bones setup with both arms and pair of eyes costs a bit over 3 points).
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisI did a character sheet for one of the character's I'm writing cyberpunk fiction about, and the total cost of his implants is 6,893,250. The only way I could pack that much in was by taking Biocompatibility and buying everything deltaware, thus the cost. He'd be good for a Prime Runner or some other important NPC.

"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisAlso, please advise: what material do you recommend for creating an adventure? I'm a little dry lately, but I'd really love to make some kind of adventure for my usual party.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisYour P Cs are hired for a part-time band security gig, to protect the band during a big concert in Madison Square Garden (or whatever venue is analogous in your location). The band manager tells the P Cs that the lead singer, a 17-year old girl, has a few stalkers in the area that she is concerned about. He needs six people (or however many players you have), which may or may not strike the P Cs as suspicious for something as insignificant as a stalker. The "stalkers" are actually a violent neo-pagan group who see the lead singer as "the ultimate virgin" and plan to sacrifice her to their gods. The P Cs don't find this out unless they make some very lucky guesses or have insane knowledge and investigation skills. While watching over the band for the two days leading up to the concert, the players realize that the lead singer is anything but virginal. She should seduce at least two male players, together or separately, and at least one female player. The rest of the band should at least be heavy drug users and at the most deviant the entire band can engage in pansexual drug orgies. The players of course get the option of joining in.
After all the debauchery, the gig starts. The players are in whatever security positions they choose to be in. That's when the neo-pagan gang choose to strike. There is a high chance of collateral damage and the players need to figure out how to stop them without killing or injuring too many innocent fans.
It would need quite a bit of fleshing out, but it's the basic plot of a story I'm working on.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler. That sounds cool :D. Also, I have an idea for an NPC: African-American female elf talismonger with bleached hair. Her name (or at least nickname)?
Ellie Stray.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisOK, an odd question: is there a handbook detailing the Insect Spirits? I have an idea for that kind of stuff, but I'd like to see how the originals are done.
Imagine possessed cultists turning into what can be best described as Necromorphs. Shit, I want to make a Warhammer 40 K figure resembling just that.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisI think it's in the Street Magic splatbook.
Yep, managed to find it already. Not quite what I had in mind, but the splatbook has some other interesting things.
Now, I'll also have to change some names of weapons. Steiner-Bisley instead of Ingram, for instance.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisAlright boyos, it's Christmas coming and I need advice: name ONE splatbook that'd be most useful in paper form during play. I'm getting the rulebook, that's sure, but I'm looking for recommendations of additional material.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisAugmentations (not sure if that is the exact name of the book), if only for the Cyber Zombie PC rules.

Yep, but I doubt anyone would play a cyberzombie. This shit's High Octane Nightmare Fuel.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisStreet Magic? Or maybe an older edition book and you could convert stuff in it, like ShadowTech.
I wrote about a fish turning into the moon.Yep, Street Magic sounds like a good idea, although I'd have to read it again. How about the Sixth World Almanac? Is it worth having on hand during play or is it enough to keep it and use during planning adventures?
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisSixth World Almanac is mostly timelines and short stories. It's okay, but not really useful for campaigns.
Augmentation is a must-have if any of your players use cyber, bio or nanoware. It also indeed has those awesome full cyborg and cyberzombie rules. As stated earlier, I have all the books but nobody to play with, and besides the main rulebook the three cores are probably the most important - Augmentation, Arsenal, Street Magic, and Unwired. That's cyber/bio/nanoware, weapons/vehicles/gear, magic, and hacking/technomancery respectively.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Haven't read Augmentation or Insured or Street Magic yet. More than the guns, I seem to recall Arsenal was useful for gear, drugs, and vehicles (gear, gear, and gears?). Companion...interesting, but I'd say go for one of the other splats.
I'm always reminded about how hard it is to talk about Shadowrun in public. Makes you sound like a terrorist.
[[tvtropes.org/pmwiki/lb_i.php?lb_id=12919183980B30760200 Liveblog of]] John Carter Of MarsTELL ME ABOUT IT.
Well, technically you are, fantasy terrorism, that's not necessarily terrorism by the strictest sense.
I've never played shadowrun, but I really want to, I've read multiple editions of the sourcebooks.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"
Well, yeah, it's 10% for a glitch on a D10 vs. 16% on a D6. Same goes for potential re-rolls. And GM was pretty lenient with crit glitches, crit glitching on a minigun aiming roll could cause the whole FUCKLOAD of firepower going at the party instead of their enemies.
As for light vs. heavy pistols, then yeah, it's easier to conceal them, even if Colt Manhunter (heavy) looks smaller than Colt America (light) in the rulebook. When it comes to rifles, I'm thinking about something semi-auto packing a bit more oomph, especially after I saw the prototype of Sarych rifle - good for long range "cover" work like counter-sniping.
When it came to gear, I had three things in mind: glasses with at least Image Overlay enhancement (to relay anything that goes on the commlink and smartlinks/other stuff), an easily concealable headset (think: Agents from The Matrix) and an Actioneer suit (white, with red shirt) - an almost-typical high-ranking bodyguard getup.
