@Chariot

You don't like Piper? Huh, funny, I thought she was one of the better written characters this book. I like Leo but his wangst was a bit OTT all things told.

I liked both Jason and Piper more in the first book than in this one. Which is also why I am upset that the fight with Percy and Jason is on the cover rather than...Annebeth versus Arachne. Especially since MoA is supposed to be Annabeth's story.

As for why I did not like Piper's segments. She seemed to focus on/whine about Jason too much rather than more important things like the actual quest. After MoA I can see why people do not like her.

Has the book really been out long enough for Arachne to not be a spoiler anymore? I mean, I know it was incredibly obvious (to me, anyway), but still.

Anyway, yeah, I've actually disliked MoA's cover art since it was revealed (Percy looks too muscular to me, but YMMV), and the miniscule amount of fighting between Percy and Jason has only made me dislike it more.

I wish the cover was a bit more representative of the actual contents of the book; like maybe the Argo II flying over Rome, or Annabeth standing in front of the statue, or, heck, I'd even like it to be the scene in the well - something that is more plot-relevant than Percy and Jason fighting.

@Zarek

I think the statue would have been too much of a spoiler. Maybe the Agro II hovering over New Rome?

Yeah, I like that better. Didn't think about the statue being a spoiler (though I guess I kinda subconsiously did because I called it "the statue" instead of its proper name).

So, yeah, Argo II flying over New Rome. Bam. Cover art. Print. Done. Ship out the copies. But noooo, we need to have two characters that get along really well fight each other on the cover!

...I'm actually putting some thought into this alternate cover art thing. Like, I'm imagining a shot from above looking down at the Argo II, showing all seven of our heroes (and Coach Hedge) on the deck, looking down. Possibly with Frank in the form of a dragon flying alongside instead of being on deck. (Does that count as a spoiler?) I wish I was good at drawing, I could totally make that a thing.

Just finished the Mark of Athena.

Well, it is terrible that Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus... but just as Percy said, at least they are together. But still, that Fall 2013 date, it will be a nightmare to wait!

I was really looking forward to see what Athena Parthenon would do when recovered, but with both Percy and Annabeth gone, that obviously will have to wait until the next book. I do hope they make peace with Reyna... I really do like her character, though nothing seems to go well for her.

Also! On another topic... have you heard that Riordan is planning to start a Norse God series?

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

[up] I heard about that. Sounds good, I just hope he had a really good explanation for a Norse camp if there is one. While I like all the books, I felt that the Roman camp introduction was something like 'Oh and we also have a Roman camp that nobody's heard about over here'. I know there's a reason for it but i'm hoping since Riordan has a few more books to write for the Heroes of Olympus he adds some subtle clues in for its introduction to Norse Mythology. My guess is that it's going to be dealing with Ragnarok, which seems the most obvious way to continue the series. Whatever it is, I wonder what explanation there will be for the big end of the world plot to take place right after the Titanomachy and then the Gigantomachy. Even better, I reckon it would be cool if Rick Riordan could tie all these event up to some huge overall scheme by some deity. Or something.

Back to the Heroes of Olympis series, the only character that I really dislike is Drew. We only really saw her in book one, but she just seemed so cliche and a character we were made to dislike with no redeeming qualities, which seemed a bit unlike Riordan to do so. There was also the fact that she was able to bully her whole cabin using her charmspeak. I'm sure Chiron would have laid down the law there.

[up]I'm fairly certain that the Norse gods thing is going to be a different series, like how The Kane Chronicles was distinctly seperate from Percy Jackson And The Olympians. It probably will make little cameo tie-ins (like how Carter in TKC briefly mentions seeing a winged horse over New York City) that just prove that they're in the same universe. There probably won't be any "Norse camp" any more than there was an "Egyptian camp."

I am definitely excited for the Norse series. Norse is up there was one of my favorite mythologies, and because there's so many different versions (because, let's face it, Norse myth is way more of a mess than Classical or Egyptian), I'm curious to see what Riordan does with it.

I guess it made a lot more sense to continue on with Percy Jackson's story as well as the rest of camp half blood in the Heroes of Olympus because they are so similar, but all the same i'm hoping that Riordan decides to make it a sequel series to the Heroes of Olympus.

Personally, I find Octavian much more interesting then Reyena, and I was disappointed to see him reduced to charicture this book. I hope Riodran takes him the route he did Clarisse and gives him a bit more depth next book.

I do wonder what flavor Ryordan will give the Norse series... I did find it neat that given that the Greek-Roman series was one of fighting heroes he was able to further distinguish the Egyptian one by making them all primarily spell casters.

Rick Riordan just wrote a crossover (short) story about Percy and Carter. It's going to be in the paperback version of Serpent's Shadow(which would be released on May 7).

Don't worry. It is also be released by itself as an Ebook and Audiobook this summer. Well at least in the US. Though I have to wonder when it takes place. Especially since The Serpent's Shadow has to take place after this series (since The Red Pyramid takes place around the same time as The Lost Hero, Throne of Fire around the same time as Son of Neptune and Mark of Athena (not sure where the claims on wikis it was a three month gap is coming from. Could have sworn it was six.) and The Serpent's Shadow takes place awhile after Throne of Fire so probably enough time after both House of Hades and the following book) finishes but then there is the problem of spoilers.

I'm pretty sure Throne of Fire itself says it's three months after The Red Pyramid.

I suppose The Son of Sobek could be non-canon.

I find Reyna a lot more interesting than Octavian, and hopes that she manages to pull a Nasuag on Octavian's Sarl in the next book.

The Red Pyramid does not take place at the same time as The Lost Hero, it takes place immediately after The Last Olympian. If The Serpent's Shadow is three months after TRP, and Son of Sobek is just a little bit after that, it's possible that it took place right before Juno switched Hera and Jason. But it would be really, REALLY close.

Actually, The Red Pyramid begins on December 24th, which puts it a few days after The Lost Hero.

What I'm finding annoying about Mark of Athena so far is how much posturing the Romans do.

[up]Dang, they look really banged up.

[up][up]I mean that at the beginning when Reyna was giving Percy the tour she wouldn't stop about how the Romans did such and such this way and imply how much better it was.

Of course that was before, now I think they're all a bunch of warmongering assholes except the main cast.

[up]Hah, I really like that about the Romans. The thing about Cultural Posturing is that it makes a community/people seem real.

And they can hardly be considered "warmongering" if the reason why they are marching to war is that a bunch of Greek heroes brought a warship to their homeland under the guise of peace, and then started shooting.
