What shotguns are available?

Pump-action? Break-action? Semi-auto? Full-fledged drum-fed shotguns like the Striker and Atchisson AA 12?

I've seen the first three. Haven't seen the fourth kind, but I'm sure they're there.

Well, if you see any of the forth kind, I'd like to use that at some point.

At least if the Short-Range Shotgun trope is averted in this game. I HATE that trope.

If it's in effect, though, stick with rifles and such.

Yep, it's averted. Shotguns are pretty cool.

Bitchin. In that case, stick me with a magazine/drumfed shotgun if you ever find one.

Until then, assault rifles. What mods are there for guns, anyway? I heard above that 'nade launchers take up precious slots...

Guns have four mod slots, where you can stick stuff like scopes, laser sights, and all that fun stuff on.

As mentioned, a grenade launcher attachment takes up two slots. One for the attachment, and one for the grenade. I do believe there's a rare few weapons, especially in 1.13 that has a built-in grenade launcher, but the grenade still takes up a slot. Usually better just to have a standard grenade launcher. There's the Vietnam one-shot model which is quite light, and 1.13 also has several clip-fed grenade launchers.

Mods for guns? The aforementioned scopes, a laser sight, a bipod that'll give you a bonus to attack if you're prone... I think some weapons can be given a special reflex grip to lower the draw time... Umm... Hmm, can't recall any other ones at the moment...

For an obssessive review of the game weapons, I usually go here; http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=199403&page=0

I remember having a hard time with shotguns, but The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard and always seems to be a much better shot than me.

For accessories...

  • Scopes are the big one; everything from match sights/reflex sights up to a 10x scope.
  • Laser sights improve accuracy out to a certain range.
  • Suppressors reduce sound, though it's not a Hollywood Silencer until you get to some of the purpose built guns with subsonic ammo.
  • Bipods improve accuracy and recoil compensation when lying down, Foregrips reduce full auto penalty.
  • Folding/Retractable stocks reduce draw time at the cost of a bit of accuracy.
  • And there's some weird ones you can build, like duct-taping a pipe on the barrel to increase range, or improving the bolt to increase firing speed.

Hey, what does one start with if you don't have max accuracy?

EDIT: Hmm, do we want to include a roster and status in the first post?

Yeah, I'll include a roster right now. You still start with the 10mm MP 5.

Oh, I was checking for if I didn't have max accuracy; I got the Browning Hi Power in .40S&W.

I kinda like the first or the third female voice, I think. Trigger Loaded already has the third one, though. As for the portrait...jeez, the brunette ones don't look that great, do they?

Congratulations, Ivy! You're in. Sorry, Flanker, but Ivy got it first. Maybe I can get you in sometime later, but I don't know. Anyway, the slots have been filled and I'll begin the LP later today! Good to have you onboard, people. This'll be fun. ^_^

By the way, Ivy, I have to say that it was your liveblog of X-COM that inspired me to make this. :)

And if anyone made modifications to their profile over the course of this conversation, you might wanna edit your entry so I can get it right.

Good news and bad news, people. The bad news is that I won't be able to do this through video. I keep running into problems. :C However, the good news is that I can still do this through text and pics. This is gonna be a liveblog then, I guess. Sorry about that, guys. Expect the update to come shortly.

If you have pictures, I'd still consider that a Let's Play. To me, a Liveblog is more a report and feelings. A Let's Play is a walkthrough, almost, with commentary.

And for a game as large as Jagged Alliance, pictures work better. Plus, it's hard to be entertaining in improvised dialogue.

Sorry to keep you guys waiting. I had to gather all the pics and upload them. Anyway, here you go. The pics look pretty blurry here because I converted them all from bitmaps to JPEGs. That'll be fixed in the next update.

Prologue: Into the Breach

So, when we start the game, I am immediately treated to the sight of the map of Arulco and the list of my mercs. When I open my laptop and check my e-mails, I see the e-mails sent by Enrico Chivaldori, a letter from IMP containing my password, and the results of creating my IMP mercs. Speaking of which, here they are: Sirocco, Ash, Carl, Bunny, Korg (couldn't fit your whole nick in there), and Ivy.

Anyway, our first task is to land in Omerta and make contact with the local rebels. Unfortunately, we quickly discover that the LZ is hot. The mook spots us and calls for backup over his radio. We've been made.

We drop our TIMS backpacks and move out. Those things are so heavy that you can only move half the distance you can normally go while wearing them, even when they're empty. While Korg and Ivy go after the guy with the radio on the right, Sirocco, Big C, Ash and Bunny head down the left. It isn't long before we encounter reinforcements.

Sirocco takes a shot, but she misses. Fortunately, when our opponent tries to hide behind the wall, C spots him through a boarded window...somehow. I would imagine that spotting a guy at the other side of a house through a boarded window while standing, like, a dozen meters away from it would be difficult, to say the least. Not only that, but he fires a burst from his MP5, which is accurate enough to fly through the cracks and neutralize the mook! Not bad, C, not bad.

Meanwhile, back at the right, Korg hears something. How observant. The bastard runs back behind cover, so Ivy runs around the right flank while Korg takes the left. When we end the turn, the mook runs back out...only to see an MP5 aimed at his cranium. Boom.

Sirocco's team reaches a large house up ahead, finding a lone mook at the south end. He yells into his radio for backup, but it's far too late for him. Sirocco shoots him in the dome, but she only clips him. C tries to finish him off, and misses, but the poor guy freaks out and cowers under the assault. Sirocco finishes him off. (Sorry, Ash and Bunny, but you were too far away. No kills for you this round. :( )

I thought that was the last of them, but there's just one more I have to deal with. I've no idea why he decided to stay and fight when his comrades are all dead. I would've gotten the hell out of dodge. Ivy fires three shots, but only one hits. Korg finishes him off, and we're finally done clearing the sector.

Once the bullets stop flying, a kid comes running out of the house behind Korg and Ivy. He doesn't say much, but his mother, Fatima, does. How long had she been there? Anyway, we try telling Fatima that we were sent by Enrico, but she doesn't believe us. Sirocco is carrying a letter from Enrico, though. She gives it to Fatima, which finally convinces her. Fatima explains that the population believes that Enrico died on the day of his exile, which was a decade ago. After that, she offers to take us to the rebels. We comply.

That's it for tonight. I hope you find this entertaining. It's my first try at this, so I'm kinda nervous. :P On the next update, we'll visit the leader of the rebellion, find a new (and free) recruit, and assault Drassen airport.
