Incineroar was shining even before Intimidate, but it did help. USUM is what mostly helped him. The new moveset he learns in that version supported his typing stats. He's the only one who managed to run with the DEFENSIVE FIRE TYPE meme.

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Huh. I assumed Incineroar wouldn't even make a blink.
He’s Pretty much to Fire type starters what greninja was to water type starters in gen 6.
Both are part dark type, to boot.
Watch SymphogearIf it makes it to Smash the parallel will be too much...
So what are the odds of Gen 8 getting a really good Grass/Dark starter to complete the set? What would make a good Grass/Dark starter?

Slow Owl's name is Decidueye and it is best orb.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."As I understand it, Decidueye isn't really that good.
Don't get me wrong: I love it's look, but apparently it's not too useful in competitive, or at least that's the impressions I've gotten here. Unless you've all steered me wrong.
Then I take my vengeance.
One Strip! One Strip!Incineroar isn't that strong nor that popular. It's alright: Intimidate's a great ability and it's easily the strongest Gen VII starter even before it...
but Greninja is fast, has Protean, which is so good in combination with its stats it got banned from Smogon, and was put into Smash before XY dropped because its design was so sick Sakurai went for it before it was revealed to the public, which rocketed it into being the most popular Gen VI mon by far.
I just haven't seen a Greninja-esque push for Incineroar. Mimikyu, Alolan Vulpix, and Lycanroc all have more merch, video game gimmicks and shills, and anime focus.
Incineroar is popular in competitive because it's functional, not because it has a huge fanbase.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseRight, but it's neither as strong (and thus as popular competitively - it's dropped down to NU in Smogon right now, though it does have a presence in VGC) nor is it as popular outside competitive play.
I think “has a presence” is underselling the 97% usage rate posted on the last page.
Yeah, did you not read the conversation leading up to this? Incineroar is one of the best Pokemon in the doubles format at the moment. Better than Greninja, by far.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI admit I was mostly responding to the idea that it and Greninja are all that similar, and I don't think they are.
Greninja's never been good in doubles but has always been a monster in singles.

I'm not a competitive nerd so I don't care.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."So what are the odds of getting a Grass/Dark starter that's a monster in triples for Gen 8?
(does anyone play triples?)
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.Considering Grass/Dark is bad both offensively and defensively? Unlikely.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseAnd triples are missing from the coding in gen VII games. Because SOS battles and overconvulted encounter tables.
With things like double battles and tripple battles I'm surprised they don't have something like battlefield mode with something like two teams made up of lot players, only thing is that it would take forever, unless everyone battles each other once or something
New theme music also a box
Like online horde battles?
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Hashil, I honestly don't understand what you're trying to say with Incineroar. I get the point about Greninja is amazing in single but it isn't in doubles, but claiming that Icineroar isn't powerful or popular is incorrect when it is, in fact, one of the best Pokemon in Doubles at the moment. It provides powerful utility and Incineroar is indeed popular with its relatively high usage in Doubles and VGC.
As for Grass/Dark starter, that could actually work since they do have some amazing resistances. But given Game Freak's history of Grass-type Pokemon, it's very likely that they will mess it up badly. Shiftry and Cacturne are the only Grass/Dark-type Pokemon so far, they aren't especially good since they're slow Glass Cannon.

I was mostly just talking about how it's been received and utilized by the Pokemon Company. It's popular competitively but not really all that much anywhere else.
Somebody compared it to Greninja, and I don't think they're all that similar outside both being Dark type starters.
I seriously hope you're not trying to say he isn't popular though, or believe that the owl (without riding on Rowlett's coattails) is more than him.
The greninja comparison was more on how the pokemon is blessed for the gen in terms of viability and being the ace. Also people often forget how it took Greninja quite a while to get moving in the popularity scope.

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.I'm just glad Primarina is the best of the Gen 7 starters in singles. Get Specs Hydro Pump'd.
Landorus 2.0. And Intimidate is part of the appeal both ways. Maybe I should start running Competetive Milotic...
