We could always use a different form of Instant Messenger. I have an MSN account that I use constantly.

Also, some Playtesters from MG wanted a Guide for character creation.

I gave them one.

EDIT: Also, never forget Step 7, everyone seems to forget Step 7.

AHOY DER RED MAGE. PLEASURE TA MAKE YER ACQUAINTANCE.

But yeah, Red Mage Class table is up and I'm about halfway through the class features.

Also, I'm somewhat surprised that no one else is helping this along, I mean, yeah, on TV Trope's it's easier to edit for me. But it's on TV Tropes, why is no one posting Trope examples, they are there, you know, at the bottom. Also also, I don't mind if you make contributions to the actual project. clockworkspider's doing it. He went ahead and made the Monk (well, he's making the Monk) and Paladin class without even really letting me know before hand. I didn't even chew him out over it. I thanked him, tweaked and modified the class as necessary, and put it up. There's a lot more that needs to be done and any contributions are welcome, and not nessecarily with the classes. Post up feats, go into more detail on Skills, add spells, make spells, add Equipment, define statuses, this is Final Fantasy, there's always a status ailment to add, hell Copy-pasta from Pathfinder or 3.5/4.0 wherever it may apply, especially with Combat, there's a lot to do. The more contributions that are made, the faster the project nears completion. The faster the project nears completion, the faster we can begin test playing. The faster we can begin test playing, the faster we can finish the project. Once the project is finished, well, I don't know, maybe publish it? Get some art. Fancy it up a bit. Make it a professional Tabletop RPG?

Can I make this project alone? Yes, but it'll take me forever and it could probably come out unbalanced. Dungeons and Dragons wasn't made by one man. Even Gygax had a partner. And if this wants to be done quickly, I can't do it alone. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Tropes Community, you're my only hope.

Wouldn't we need SE's permission to publish this? Or are we small enough (and not doing a Chrono Trigger project) that they won't care?

Because I know CERTAIN PEOPLE have been HIGHLY ANTICIPATING it, I hunkered down and made the DRAGOON class. Including the Class Chart. All that it needs are the Job Feature descriptions and Techniques. But otherwise, it's there, under the Blue Mage and above the Gladiator (ALPHABETIZATION!!). Check it out.

^^Oh, and also, I have no idea.

I'm not entirely sure if the OGL thingy protects us from those super fun LAWSUITS. But I do know that as long as I or no one else doesn't make a profit off of it, then we're cool.

AKA: It's fine, as long as it stays online. If you want to publish, there will be some rubbish.

Update, typed out the Dragoon's class features. All that remains are the techniques. Yes they will include Jump and the Dragon Breath ones, before you even bother to ask.

After much consideration, I think I'm going to remove the TP system. Techniques will still be there, yes. But you won't need to keep track of how much TP you have each encounter. There isn't a limit in FF 12 or FFTA 2, so there won't be one for IAT.

Also, I need to work on the MP system more. I'm not sure if I like start the day with Max MP and wait 'til the next day to replenish it. Suggestions?

You could make a middle ground between starting at zero when a battle starts and starting with everything by having everyone regenerate either a fixed percentage of their max MP (the same number for everyone, so the higher your max MP the more you get each turn) or how quickly you can restore mana from the Mist is dependent on some stat (which may be different depending on class).
That way we keep Mages from starting off incredible powerful without making Max MP a Dump Stat.

Granted, that brings up issues of when "combat" starts. I'm guessing we could institute some way to make charging up MP before battles impractical.

Technically, Combat starts when you roll initiative.

That being said, I wouldn't know how to format or formulate it and make it seem balanced across the board. So let's look at it in the ways that Tactics A2 and Final Fantasy 12 do it.

In Tactics A2, you start each battle with no MP and gain 10 at the start of each turn. Easy enough, but it doesn't make much sense, because at the start of the next battle, you're put back to 0. What happened to your MP from the last battle?

In 12, you started off with all of your MP, and it was restored slowly through battle and by walking around. Also easy enough, you could, say, regain 1 MP at the start of each round in combat, and then restore a larger amount of it for Short Rests, and all of it during Extended Rests. This, of course, would require me to rework most of the Black Mages abilities, and then consider how much you gain back from Short Rests.

I'd go for the "start with 0, recover a percentage of max MP" approach. As for making sense... yeah, it doesn't make much sense, but you could make up an explanation, something like gathering MP is a subsconscious action, a reaction of the body when in a battle, so when not in battle, the MP goes away. Or... something like that?

I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos!

You included Judge? Very interesting.

I'm guessing Moogle Knight as a prestige class is mostly because the main purpose of the class existing (giving Moogles some way of having decent Attack and Defense) can already be done with a Soldier Moogle.

THE TEST PLAY PARTY THUS FAR.

If you want to join, the requirements are simple.

You cannot be a member of the same race or class of another member. I.E: If we have a Viera already (Which we do), you better not be making one. And if we have a Soldier (WHICH WE DO), You better not be making one as well.

THE PARTY SO FAR. Formatted in: Member name: Forum: Race and Class, Character Name.

  • Wise_Idiot: Middle Ground: Bangaa Soldier, Grudis
  • Za Warsman: Middle Ground: Moogle Gunner, Wenzelas
  • Vincent: Middle Ground: Viera Red Mage, Alea

I'm taking a maximum of six members, the game will probably be played over Maptool (Again, Google it) with voice-chat over Skype. my Skype-name is Renegade0Warrior.

pff

i don't even go on the mg anymore

Well, I do, but rarely.

But yeah, I'm the guy playtesting the delicious chocolate bunnygirls. It also so happens that I'm the guy writing up the spells.

Yes, there is absolutely no way for me to abuse these dual responsibilities given to me.

None at all.

UPDATE.

TP is Gone, forever. Intead some Techniques get an MP Cost.

ALSO. Each encounter you start with 0 MP and gain 5 at the start of yer turn. Seeing as characters won't be getting nearly as much MP as they level, spell costs have been halved and likewise, so has the amount you usually gain at the start of an encounter. EXAMPLE. Fire will cost 4 MP to use. Instead of 8 as you might be expecting.

ALSO ALSO, I went through the OBNOXIOUSLY PRETENTIOUS YET NECESSARY PROCESS of changing every instance of the word Magic to Magick and magical to magickal and etc.

ALSO ALSO ALSO, I  *

A few race tweaks.

This is pretty neat. But I've noticed that the spell list dosn't actually have any descriptions for the spells.

^ You also probably noticed that there are no feats whatsoever, most of the jobs are incomplete, combat has not been described, most of the common Final Fantasy status effects are missing, there is no character sheet, skills are a bit lax in their description, there are no items nor prices for them nor descriptions of what they do, and I've yet to go into detail about the actual setting.

Congratulations, you have just encountered a Work In Progress (WIP) and now I feel like a bit of an asshole.

Of course I haven't gotten around to the spells, A: vincepaladin is going to work on them, B: I'll work on them when I get to the bloody spell list, which comes after I finish Jobs, Skills, Feats, and Equipment (Combat's last since it's the basic D20 system we're all familiar with).

THAT BEING SAID. I have, under numerous circumstances and occasions, stated that anyone is free to work on this project. In fact, you working on it will get me working on it, so I invite you to edit things, balance things, and finish things! So I can in turn edit things, balance things, and finish things! And then THE AWESOME CAN BEGIN.

So if the spells being incomplete bothers you that much, work on them. Then I'll work on them to make them fit in the game. Yes, I'm a lazy bastard, I apologize but this project won't get done if I alone work on it.

So, hey, turns out the Character I rolled?

She's 6'6 and weighs 107 pounds.

This means the has a BMI of 12.

Healthy BMI is usually around 18-25.

Yeeaaaaaaaaaah. She'd be skin and bones, even taking into account the Viera propensity to be thin and tall.

This is why should you be making a character, you'll be choosing from a range instead of rolling to avoid strange matchups like these.

Like he said, that update has been made, and now you get a sweet range to pick from, so wierd BMI's are your own damn fault now.

From thatother1dude's recent edit.

I'm assuming that was a typo.

OOPS

I should have noticed that. Yes, everyone, let's make a 3 and a half foot tall Moogle and laugh at the short females of our race that we so obviously dominate! Hahahahahaha! Kupo!

Thanks. XD
