Shoujo Ai hasn't been used as a proper tag in ages, possibly for the exact reasons stated above. Yeah, we should remove that from the title.

It's not used as much in fandom because of the bad implications. So yeah, probably remove it?

I'll give a [tup] to removing "Shoujo-ai" from the title.

I would also support removing. I don't think it is a big deal overall and am fine either way. However, the trend I am noticing nowadays in the English fandom is that Yuri dedicated spaces avoid "shoujo ai" and stick with Yuri and GL. It is the more general anime/manga communities that still use "shoujo ai" as distinct from Yuri.

So, since the Yuri specific fandom don't like the term, I think it makes sense to avoid it.

I thought the term was relatively common.

But upon thinking about it, the main places I heard it used was on various titles on this wiki a few years ago while I was trawling for recs.

Most other places just use Yuri as a catch-all.

So if the meaning has shifted I don't see any harm in dropping that part of the title.

Should it become "Girls' love. Yuri." Or should we have it changed to something like "General Yuri Thread", "Yuri General Thread", "Yuri Manga & Anime" or something else?

Yuri and Shoujo-ai was originally used to differentiate between pornographic Girls' Love and non-pornographic Girls' Love, but it has fallen out of favor in recent years due to Japan not having the term and uses Yuri as a blanket term for Girls' Love. thus there was no reason for the people in the west to use it

[up][up] Places like MAL still use it. That is one huge site in the anime community, do it is, indeed, rather common. But, as I said, it is a more general anime and manga site. Places specifically dedicate to yuri are more likely to avoid it, in my experience.

[up] Part of the problem is that distinction becomes meaningless due the Japanese usage of Yuri. Even if most of the English fandom agreed that "shoujo aí" is PG and "Yuri" is NSFW, many would still use Yuri as a blanket term due to how it is marked in Japan. I mean, Yuru Yuri is the name of a family friendly anime. It is hard to avoid. So, no matter what Yuri will be used as a blanket term, which reduces the practical usefulness of the distinction.

Yeah I've basically never seen Yuri used to refer to only NSFW stuff.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of english fandom grabbing a term without actually looking at what it means and using it for something completely different. I'd rather the pedophilia association be avoided altogether.

It seems like we're leaning towards removing it, since it's not adding anything that's not already indicated by girls' love and yuri. Going ahead and deleting it from the title. Thanks for the clarification, everybody.[awesome]

So I just read volume 10 of Citrus and I felt… weirdly empty at the end. Sure, I was happy for the protags, but everything felt too easy, too rushed.

The French publisher released the first volume of Citrus+ along with it, but I'm torn between wanting to see more of Yuzu (and Harumin) and not really wanting to see more of the blackhole of charisma that is Mei. Do you think + will be a long-winded sequel or just a short epilogue?

Kandagawa Jet Girls ended with a confession, and there's still an extra episode coming out in 9 days. Pretty good stuff.

Now talking about the current season, Doga Kobo made Koisuru Asteroid first episode considerably more romantic than what the manga chapters were, so let's hope they keep working their magic on the show.

Meanwhile, our quarterly dripfeeding of Kaijuu Iro no Shima has arrived on Dynasty. Nothing happens except a big, wet smooch. Also abalones. This is a frustrating read, but man is the art gorgeous.

Found out that Yuri Life: No Love, No Life! by Kurukuruhime was localized and picked up a copy at my local bookstore.

For those not familiar with the work, it's a slice-of-life manga where each chapter is dedicated to a lesbian couple living together. Some have very different personalities, some have quite the gap in age, and there's even one story featuring the supernatural.

Definitely worth a read if you aren't looking for something particularly heavy or full of drama/angst.

It's fairly adorable. Full color too, which is rare for manga.

So, remember the polyamory arc in Ano Kiss? I always wondered if it could have been better with more than just three chapters to develop the relationship.

Well, guess what, Canno's new series will apparently be a polyamory story. surprised

In before we get expies of Yuu, Touko and Sayaka.

I was kind of iffy on Ano Kiss itself, but I'll definitely take a look at this new series.

It's been fun.

This is the series by the way.

Google translate says its called something like "Easy Triangle Relations".

I think.

Also I should re-read Ano Kiss.

I've read parts of it twice, but aside from the start I don't really remember much of it.

More exactly, the title translates to something like "Easy Introduction to Love Triangles (to Pass the Exams!)"

Ano Kiss seemed like it had potential but the sheer quantity of characters and relationships was too much for me, never got past volume 1. Something by that author with only 3 main characters could be interesting, even if it's just a regular Love Triangle.

[up] There were too many characters for you even in volume 1? Then… it's probably better you stopped, yeah. evil grin

So the first chapter of Yasakan (I'll call it that) is out on the Dex for those interested. Right of the bat you can feel Canno wanted to make Mayuki the anti-Ayaka… and it seems like Rin is gonna be the goofiest of the three girls. Everything about her screams "DORK".

The first chapter of An Easy Introduction to Love Triangles (To Pass the Exam!) which was mentioned recently in this thread is now out.

Didn't read the two posts above clearly enough.

[up][up][up] Was more the fact that it looked like every volume was going to introduce two or three more additional couples, without spending much time on the "main" one until who-knows-when. Combined with the bonus pairs in volume 1 being somewhat forgettable... just seemed like padding, honestly.

Anyway, Asteroid in Love is pretty good so far. Whether it's going to graduate from maybe-yuri to actually-yuri remains vague, but they're certainly plugging the Childhood Friend Romance angle for all it's worth. The presence of Dogakobo makes me wary, but nothing too offensive yet. More nerding-out than one would expect from a cute-girls show (episode 4 being basically "visit all the museums!").

Good work on the first chapter of Yasakan, Lyendith. I'll have to see how that one progresses, I think.

It's been fun.
