I don't even know if they have anything like that.

Both sides frequently send their medics into combat, and like, not in a they just heal, they don't fight back sort of way.

The weirdest moral dissonance is prolly the start of the 2nd movie where the Autobots attack Decepticons who are... doing nothing? Like we're told these guys are in hiding, nothing more. Start a chase that causes a ton of collateral damage, then when they've crippled their opponents, Optimus just straight up executes them. And Optimus is the good guy here?

Remember when Dark of the Moon had the Autobots helping the US military destroy an illegal nuclear plant in Iran? I do.

Remember when Dark of the Moon had the Autobots helping the US military destroy an illegal nuclear plant invade another country and destroy its power infrastructure in Iran? I do.

Corrected that for you.

Honestly these films have a lot of weird moments that I don't think non villainous Autobots would do in other continuities.

Like executing them when their down and defenseless, hunting them for...being Decepticons in hiding, or weirdly allying with the US to destroy the "US's enemies" which uh Yikes....

I mean, allying with humans is something the Autobots often do, but yeah. Usually only in the context of dealing with the decepticons and maybe some humanitarian stuff.

Though lets note that the Autobots of Animated did actively fight earth crime as well. Still the scale is much smaller than helping deliberately fight enemies of the U.S.

And I do agree that even if they were hunting Decepticons, they would probably at least try to avoid executing them. Unless they just don't have any rules for taking enemies alive if possible, it comes off as pretty callous, especially for Optimus, who's whole thing is respecting the sanctity of life.

I remember some people tried to defend the whole "Autobots executing Decepticons" in the Bay films by arguing "What do you expect? Them to throw them in prisons?"

And The Last Knight showed that the government could totally make prisons for Decepticons. tongue

Animated's criminals were basically supervillains, and even then, there's a world of difference between fighting criminals local to the country you're in and invading another country to blow up their reactor at the behest of the US Government.

RE: Hunting Decepticons, it's not just executing them, but it's also all the collateral damage of the ensuing chase, like, that's on the Autobots too.

Yeah, Transformers movies like to jerk off the US Government, same with the MCU. It's really eye-rolling. Department of Defense co-scripted the first 3 Transformers movies.

A bit weird considering how useless the US government is in these films barring liken the few Autobot allies then. Lol.

Eh. I prefer it to the Humans treat the Autobots as enemies and keep attacking them, letting the Decepticons win bullshit that other stories do.

The Marvel comics held on to it with a death grip. IDW kept undoing any progress the Autobots made at looking better.

The movies also eventually went that route, and I've never cared for it to be honest.

Yeah, go a little bit less crazy on treating the U.S. Government like they are the best of the best and the greatest allies the Autobots could have and shit, but at the same time don't be all like we must kill all the transformers, even the ones who save us all the time! Differences between Autobots and Decepticons! Poppycock! They are all obviously on the same side and we should kick both their asses!

It's one of the reasons I like how Prime handled it. The U.S. military clearly doesn't have full trust on the Transformers, but they don't act hostile to the Autobots until MECH used Nemesis Prime on their base, and even then the following episode had Agent Fowler talking to the General about the misunderstanding and making his case of why they need to remain allies with the Autobots.

It also helps that the military ends up being the one to blow up Megatron's Darkmount base on Earth after the Autobots destroy its defense system. Just goes to show the synergy balance between Autobots and humans that isn't lopsided to one extreme interpretation or another.

I do wonder if the new Motormaster will be massive. Menasor will form like how in the cartoon, in that Motormaster just grew really big and the Stunticons attached to his arms and legs (sometimes, it depends on the episode). Motormaster himself will be the truck cab and the truck trailer will separate out to form the body and limbs.

It'd be stupid, but if it's more stable than the CW set then I'm all for it.

Motormaster is supposed to be commander class. From the info I'm hearing, Motormaster basically forms all of Menasor, and the other stunticons attach to existing arms and legs.

Agreed. Them destroying Darkmount was definitely a highlight for humans as a whole in the franchise.

I'm enjoying Transformers: Beast Wars (2021). It's got a nice vibe to it. I really like reading the Predacons bounce off each other, they've got a fun dynamic. I know his art is divisive, but I really love Josh Burcham's work on this title. I always liked his art style and the colors are so nice. His Botcon comic was one of my favorites too

I ordered volume 1, but apparently it's not due to be released until January.

Finally got around to first "transforming" my Transmutate. Some parts don't seem to stick in too easily. Also, it's only forgivable because it's Transmutate, but partsforming isn't transforming.

[up][up] I'm also really liking it so far, I enjoy the fact that it's doing some things differently than the original cartoon. Issue 9 brings in Razorbeast, he didn't even appear in the cartoon.

Turns out I plugged in one of the parts upside down, and that made everything about my Transmutate look and fit off. Still, that's a problem with partsformers, anyway. I fixed it, and it's better now. The poseability in "Beast" (skeletal) mode is amazing, though.

Huh, you can actually do a lot of the transformation from the official "Beast Mode" to her fan Robot Mode seen in this video with minimal partsforming:

  1. Move the chest plate to the back port (or leave it on the back, if you had it that way).
  2. Disconnect the rib cage assembly, and plug it in to the right side of her neck.
  3. Disconnect her tail, and plug it in to the left side of her neck.
  4. Fold her beast mode head all the way down to fill in the cavity the rib cage was in.
  5. Rotate her spine 180 degrees at the base of the rib cage, then fold the top part up.
  6. Rotate the now-right leg 180 degrees around the hip.
  7. Rotate the now-left leg 180 degrees at the ankle.
  8. Pull her robot mode head up.

I just watched "Power Surge" from Beast Wars earlier and I just realized that I don't care for the majority of the Predacons at all with the sole exception of Megatron. Inferno is very relatable but everyone else is either "eh" to me or just plain annoying (Waspinator and Terrorsaur, or as I like to call him Great Value Knock Out). I am very early into the series so this might change but things aren't looking good.
I think Beast Wars might be one of the only pieces of media where I like the heroes over the villains lmao

[up] Wait, have you watched Beast Wars before? Because if you're at "Power Surge", that would be before Inferno shows up.

As a kid, if you had asked me who my favorite Predacon was, I'd have said Scorponok, because he's a scorpion and scorpions were cool, so Scorponok had to be cool. He wasn't. Now, my favorite Predacon is definitely Tarantulus. I really appreciate his Wild Card nature, and how his allegiance was never certain. Sometimes he was working with Megatron, sometimes he was against him. I feel he was a more successful Starscream than the G1 Starscream, who was never half as successful a Tarantulus, with the possible exception of his actions in The Movie.

[up][up] This is the first time I'm watching BW but I am aware of all of the characters (an urge to learn about every last thing about something you're fixated on goes a long way). After a bit I latched onto Inferno because he's a funny little guy. I haven't even gotten to his debut episode yet

The first part of Beast Wars is a little rough. It took them a while to find their footing. The early show has a bunch of ups and downs, and things don't really get consistently good until about the point where Inferno shows up, which is about the time that the show starts building for the season finale, and that was such a good season finale. Then you hit Season 2, and man, Season 2 was solid gold start to finish.
