Hope you folks have access to decent filters as well as boiling.

We have no filters anywhere. We have a fountain (it's a Swiss mountain village, they all have 'em from the time before there was a water supply system) where I filled two vessels of water that we used this evening for dinner. She also boiled another vessel of tap water for use if the fountain water turns out to be bad.

That fountain has an interesting history, too - until a few years ago its water was considered potable but since then there is a "not potable" sign. But the townsfolk resolutely ignore it as there is no indication that the water isn't fine and apparently nothing bad has happened to anyone either (certainly not to the two teenage boys who drank from it last year, after they asked me whether it could be drunk and to who I said that nobody took that sign seriously. OK, digression now over).

I love my father but he is a conspiracy nut job. He thinks because he studied for medical school back in the early 80's and had A Noble Laureate for a professor he somehow knows that COVID-19 is not real. He thinks the vaccine is some sort of evil conspiracy mechanism and will be uber harmful.

One of my brothers who actually worked in a microbiology lab and did some more recent studying has gone round and round with him on this.

I feel awful for one of my neighbors. I get done chatting with a guy who is here visiting friends on a regular basis and just as I am heading in I see one of my first-floor neighbours come outside and she looks like she is in distress and upset.

So I do the good neighbor bit and ask if she is ok and all that. The poor woman has lost her 7th family member to COVID-19. She was so beset she needed to come out into the hot and humid to get some air and relax. I chatted with her a bit to make sure she was going to be ok in the general sense. She did the brave smile and thanked me and I went inside.

That has to be absolutely devastating. The poor woman.

Seven family members... Oh, boy.

She's going to need a lot of support for quite some time (whether she admits it or not). The tricky thing is working out what she'll accept without making the stress worse. -_-'

Seven, holy crap! That is a lot, no matter the reason. The poor woman!

Strangely, I still don't know anyone who's had it.

Just giving you all a heads up that California, aka the state where I live, is almost entirely on fire. While my county has managed to contain theirs, we're still hedged in by about four enormous blazes which are at most 5% contained and about an hour away. The smoke is blowing in from all sides, so I'm packing essentials in case we're told to evacuate anyway.

Just got the news that the owner of my apartment is planning on selling it. Since I can't meet the asking price, this may or may not mean that I might get evicted once it''s actually bought... provided I even decide to hang around for that long, since the process of selling the apartment will naturally include having to allow random strangers into the place so they can see the apartment before buying it.

...I may have to go apartment shopping again.

I mean, there are two other possibilities. I could try and raise the relatively cheap asking price and buy the apartment myself in under a month, or I could try and convince someone I know to buy the apartment and let me continue living in it. But I don't know how possible either of those are.

I've got a few alternatives lined up already, might even take a look at some of them tomorrow. I'm mostly bummed to have to leave this apartment, really liked this one. I'd absolutely buy it if I had the money.

Well good to see you around again.

One of my brothers living with my parents partly to help keep an eye on my aging folks thinks my father may be showing some of the early warning signs of Alzheimer's. Getting my father in to see a doc to check would be a colossal uphill battle.

Tuef: Oh, that's rough. Does he still drive, etc?

So the family friend who was ailing has now passed away. Seems that once she was in hospice, it was time to give up, which is understandable. Graveside service is tomorrow. Fortunately I and my brother can both go, as well as my parents.

In other news, I just bought a dining room table online. The one I have is slightly too big. My house was small by 1960s standards, moreso now. Most furniture these days is built on a bigger scale. If I look for "small spaces", the results are for studio/bedsit/efficiency situations. It's hard to find anything between those extremes.
