So put the smaller version on the crowner and let's vote on it.
Rhymes with "Protracted."No, that's not the only reason they have been changed after the fact.
Anyway, this was shrunk and slightly cropped, so that it's 750 tall. And we might need a new crowner (just add a suffix to the current name).

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Sometimes pictures are resized, when they look strange on the page. So resizing is normally not the problem.
But when several people states that the unusual size is good for the trope and they like it, resizing without discussion is not OK.

In any case, I prefer the large version, but the small version is fine if everybody else wants it that way.
This, basically. I have nothing against the small picture, but it irks me that DQZ went and replaced it without discussion when me, The Pope, INUH, Rodney, Enlong, and Gilphon all thought that the long picture was fine.

Reaction Image RepositoryWell I first changed it after only two replies (and again being to tall, and the same picture, didn't mean a consensus needed), which meant at the time I just had a small amount of disagreement. There were apparently others later, but those were after the fact, so should not count as changing against them, as they hadn't spoken up yet.
How about the medium one I just made?

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. But I don't think everyone else does want it that way. Look at the crowner. The small one is currently at -6.
^But on the entire last page and a half contained only one person other than you who didn't like the original size. Even in just the three posts you were considering, you were outnumbered two to one.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyThe "smaller" picture is 350x1501.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. We have no official rule saying "this many pixels tall and absolutely no taller under any circumstance." We do have a general guideline that the page image shouldn't extend into the examples — but that's a general guideline, not a hard and fast rule. We also have a general guideline that large blocks of whitespace should be avoided if possible.
The large image not only extends into the examples, it extends past the end of the examples unless all of the folders are open. If they are all closed, it doubles the length of the page — there is just as much whitespace between the bottom of the last folder and the index bar as there is page above the last folder.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Refer to my previous post.
EDIT: Got ninja'd by Mag. I really don't mind the whitespace too much in this instance.
The medium size picture still has the "extends into examples" issue, but it's just not as striking when it's so skinny. It's like the full size picture has Refuge in Audacity going for it.

Reaction Image RepositoryOnly two replies when I made it. You can see it for yourself. If there had been a lot more first, I would have discussed first.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Nor do I mind it. We shouldn't make a habit of it, but I think it works for this trope.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyUm, the way I see the sequence of events was like this:
- The long picture got posted with a decent consensus for it (see page 5 of this thread, it's something like 5-2 in favor of the long image)
- You posted saying that you thought we should shrink the image.
- Me and INUH posted saying that the long version was fine.
- You went ahead and shrunk the image anyway without waiting for further discussion.
I have nothing against a smaller image, but you could have at least waited for more responses before changing it to see how many people wanted the big image and how many want the smaller one.

Reaction Image RepositoryLet me put it this way. If you guys don't come to some compromise among yourselves, and Fast Eddie steps in, I would bet the mortgage money that the longest one will not be allowed on the page. He hates big blocks of whitespace caused by oversized page images. The page image is secondary to the text.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Ok, good to know.
Reaction Image RepositoryWell, if Fast Eddie won't allow the long one, I'd be fine with the middle one. But if using the long one doesn't entail going against him, I'd rather use it.
Infinite Tree: an experimental story*sigh* I was hoping the medium would work, but it still makes whitespace. I'll try a 600 tall one.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Okay, put up a 600 tall one on the page (just so you all can see how it looks), and even with the caption, it doesn't make whitespace.
So does that work for you?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Well, if we aren't allowed to do the large one, I'd accept that as the second-best choice.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyThe only problem I have with wanting the larger picture is that it assumes pictures are about being self demonstrating, instead of illustrating the trope. Unless the trope specifically is about fiddling with pictures, that reasoning does not apply here.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I still prefer the large one, but that one is fine if we don't use the big one.

Reaction Image RepositoryI consider a self-demonstrating picture to be better than one that is identical in all aspects except being self-demonstrating.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyHow could a trope about buildings be self demonstrating as a picture? And if you mean the size, that would logically mean over 1,000 meters tall picture.
EDIT: Phrased the first part poorly. Fixed.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. You're being too literal. Absurdly tall building, absurdly tall picture.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyNo, it's "1,000 meters or higher building", as that is the objective requirement for this trope. And the absurd part is about gravity and other laws of physics anyway, which pictures on computers don't need to obey (the computer components do, but that's another matter). So being self demonstrating is mutually exclusive here.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.
