The problem with the Alucard/Sonia romance is simply that there's no place for it to happen. Dracula didn't start attacking humans until just before Trevor did his thing (the anime makes this pretty clear but it was always true). After that, Alucard puts himself into a deep sleep that he won't awaken from until SotN. After that, the Belmonts can no longer touch the Vampire Killer until Julius who delivers Dracula's final defeat.

I'd be all for it if there was actually a place where it could happen but there isn't. Bad continuity is bad writing and why Legends was shunted from canon in the first place.

Yeah. IGA very clumsily explain it, but that's pretty much the problem.

Both Legends and SOTN came out at the same time, so I guess there wasn't much communication between the two teams.

And since IGA was running the show, he had final say on what stayed and what didn't.

Look Sonia's description reads like someones Fanfic where they are trying to appeal to the Waifu factor and going overboard with Queen Belmont

Well, Sonia was made in 1997 and arguably predates Waifus (or predates when they became a huge thing since the concept might have been around back then), but I do see your point.

She wasn't a bad idea, but she was done badly.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was 1995 so waifus were definitely a thing by 1997.

I don't really recall hearing the term until the New 10's though.

Not really liking the "Girl is prominent/important = fanfiction" implications I'm reading here.

The moe trend was already well underway. Sonia isn't really that, though.

Honestly, if what we truly want of this is a female protag getting a well-written romance, you can just do that with someone else not named sonia. Introduce someone new or retool sonia from the ground-up - you don't need to sacrifice continuity and coherence in service of representation.

Essentially this. I mean she could work later, and probably would have if that cancelled Dreamcast game ever got made.

Or heck, if the series gets to Symphony they'll do something with Maria and Alucard.

Hot take: Judgment!Maria could work in some way if she wasn't named Maria and was a separate character. And didn't have that fuckin' Taokaka boob obsession thing.

I mean, it's a disservice to her characterization, but I do have to admit some of the lines make me laugh.

Slash also gets a pretty badass revamp for her stage.

Judgement's music is a gift.

And as I've said before I want the outfits in that game to be unlockable for any time those characters return. For most of them this would be akin to playing the story of Dead Rising wearing only boxer briefs and a servebot hat.

So...what are all the weaknesses of Vampires in Castlevania.

I know they don't do well with anything holy, like Crosses, Holy Water and any consecrated item.

They also can't handle sunlight very well, and even regular magic can be a weapon against them, though I don't believe it's an explicit weakness. It's the Superman scenario where it effects them just as much as it would anyone else.

According to the wiki, normal water also seems to have a bad effect on them, which reminds me of the lengthy discussion in Season 2 of the Castlevania series about whether running waters is even a weakness to vampires or not...by a group of vampires.

I'm wondering if there's anything that hasn't been mentioned yet.

"According to the wiki" nothing. In SotN, Alucard will take damage in water unless he has a snorkel Holy Relic.

Weird.

I'd understand Holy Water, and I know about the no crossing running water rule, but why would just normal water damage them?

Thinking about a hypothetical Castlevania Warriors again so here's me spitballing more character ideas.

I want Annette Renard. Specifically, Vampire Annette Renard. If we'd be going the Crisis Crossover route Richter and Maria running into an alternate timeline's results of their failure would be neat to explore across the entire game instead of one optional boss battle.

We'd need a sword-wielding "Rival" character and I can't decide whether that should be Maxim Kischine or Hugh Baldwin. I'm leaning towards Max, since he could project his jealousy of Juste onto the other Belmonts.

And Isaac of course, he'd have a really cool moveset. I'd definitely take him over Hector since Hector's existence as a defector from Dracula's forces would be largely irrelevant with Alucard around (And Alucard's always around.) and his iconic weapons are just swords.

To make exactly one area in the entire game (technically two) a minor chore to traverse and to make you sit through three long ferry rides.

Say what you will about the Rondo remake's graphics, making her a vampire like the SNES port was hardly a bad idea, she's hot. Also just a neat idea in general, Richter really did have to hurry otherwise she'd be turned. And whatever Dracula was going to do to Maria.
