This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

I honestly don't known about rogue launching, but now I have read up on the TLP guidelines as well the rest of the suspension guidelines. This is my first time and hopefully last time I get suspended. Please it was an honest mistake.

I'm here because I have A TON of free time or nothing on tv or I'm just procrastinating.

My review privileges have been revoked. Reason being: I carried out a needless fight for too long in the comments section of a review I wrote about Chuggaaconroy in a manner very indicative of the child I was five years ago.

May I have my review privileges restored?

~okthen789: These bad TLPs are not "no reason". We need a lot more effort (grammar, concept, examples) than that to make new TLP drafts, and generally one needs a bit of experience with wiki activity.

~Rondomi, ~deathnoteFNBOI58 and ~rex6565: OK then. Let's hope that nothing bad happens from here on.

~Another Guy: Seems like a bug to me - we have separate TLP and edit bans for a reason, the forum ban should be limited to the forums only. I've reported the issue but I wouldn't expect a quick fix.

~YSSMIAT31 and ~Yellow20: Mostly there, but there were also problems with grammar (and in YSSMIAT 31's case Example Indentation).

~digimon: Your suspension was for grammar issues, and in light of your post here I don't think you are quite there yet.

Well, then, I apologize for my grammar mistakes and example indentation, I'll be sure not to let any of that happen again, promise. Yes, said mistakes are the reason I got suspended in the first place, but I've learned my lesson and would please like to edit again.

Hello, Septimus Heap

A month ago I was suspended for a month. I would like to be able to post in On-Topic conversation again. Mostly for the Politics in Media thread rather than the political ones now.

Thank you.

Yes Septimus Heap I do apologise again for some grammar issues. I have since been using Grammerly for all my devices and doing my upmost to make sure my words are comprehensible. If I were theoretically allowed to edit again, I’d make sure to fix any previous mistakes I and others have made on pages.

Hello, I recently discovered that I was suspended, presumably for an edit I made that I tried to link to, and yet when I first posted this appeal, it simply read "sorry, new users cannot post external links," so it looked like no one could actually see what I had written in the first place, which was pretty annoying.

A user by the name of Bisected 8 sent me a message letting me know that my edit had been reverted and was being discussed (again, I would link to the thread where it's being discussed, but I actually want people to see this post), complete with an invitation to explain myself, an opportunity of which I took advantage. I explained that I didn't understand how my edit was wrong, as I was merely trying to provide a more neutral point of view to the article, and yet I was labeled "transphobic" and a "troll." Bisected also made some incorrect (and quite baseless) assumptions as to the origin of my username, and stated that if it did mean what they thought it did, it was "not exactly a reference that bodes well" for me, whatever that means.

Anyway, considering the overall diplomatic and friendly nature of Bisected's message to me in which I was actually given a platform to explain and defend myself, I thought that would be the end of it. But no, my side of the story was met with an ominous "I think there will be a conversation elsewhere about this response," and now a suspension.

If, at the very least, someone could just explain why exactly I was suspended in the first place (preferably whoever suspended me), that would be much appreciated.

If my writing could be considered wit, then I would like for it to be soulful wit, and as such, keep it brief.

~Deadbeat Loser 22: So I'm guessing you're referring to trans people. The only problem is, I never treated their EXISTENCE as something to be debated, because there is no debating that they exist. Now, their status as the gender that they want to be vs. the gender that they actually are? Why, that's absolutely debatable, as there's no consensus that everyone has reached on that topic, and there very well may never be. Therefore, in the interest of appealing to all sides (rather than just one), I reworded a part of the article to reflect the multi-faceted nature of the issue, explaining that some people feel one way, and others feel another. The article as it was before I edited it (and now, after my edit has been reverted), merely presents one side of the argument as objective truth. I genuinely fail to see how that's better than providing multiple viewpoints, especially with regards to such a hot-button issue.

~A5E10: Except you didn't "[provide] multiple viewpoints". You changed the wording to your viewpoint, namely that trans men are not men but women who mistakenly believe themselves to be men.

~Deadbeat Loser 22: "Some argue that bifauxnen, however, do not include "trans men," women who "identify" as men, claiming that they are men, and not simply "mistaken" for men, although they are actually biologically female."

That's the line I wrote into the article. And would you look at that, it's the other viewpoint! If I wanted to change the line to merely reflect my viewpoint, I would have merely erased the line entirely, but I didn't, because I value diversity of opinions. I just wish that other editors would hold themselves to the same standard.

TV Tropes articles are not really the platform to argue about this, though. We only write about storytelling, not about the real life disputes behind it.

~Septimus Heap: I won't argue with that, Septimus, and in fact, that's more or less the response I was given to my own post in the thread about my edit. It is also for this reason that I did not revert the article back to the way I left it after my edit was reverted: I couldn't claim to know more about how things are done here than those who had been here longer than I, but I was initially acting out of good faith. I didn't think that my edit would be a problem at the time of making it, but once I saw that it had been reverted, I reasoned that it must have been, and left it alone. It was only until days later, when I received the link to the thread discussing my edit, that it crossed my mind again. Seeing myself called a "troll," "transphobic," and "blowing transphobic dogwhistles," really set something off within me, and given that the person who said all that was also the very same person who invited me to provide my side of the story on the thread, I gladly seized the opportunity, rattling off a response with as much civility as I could muster.

I do not think that I am a bigoted person, and I recognize that the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgement exists for a reason, and, if given the chance to edit this wiki again, I promise to adhere to it more strictly, and think twice before posting.

Furthermore, I have since discovered that Deadbeatloser 22, the moderator who initially replied to my appeal here, is likely a trans woman, judging by the transgender flag in her badge collection. If that is the case, I would like to offer her my sincerest apologies for my previous insensitivities. I've had a hard time trying to wrap my head around the whole trans issue, but I am trying to teach myself to be more open-minded of other people, and, like Septimus said, this is certainly not the place to air my opinions on the matter. If you are transgender yourself, and my comments offended you, or your sense of security with regards to the validity of your identity, or in any other way made you feel uncomfortable, I am truly, deeply sorry.

I was edit banned for my submission of Birds of prey to SBIH trailers, and my subsequent suggestion based on double standards to the cleanup page.

Here's the thing. The reason I made that post in the cleanup page was so I could prevent an edit war, and also suggest further cleanup if one thing is to go whereas others should stay. I don't feel as though I should be punished for trying to find an alternative to an edit war.

Unless, of course, you would prefer an edit war.
