Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

~GravityGraedon, you were sent a couple notifiers about this. When you get back to editing, you have to pay attention to these. Unless the problem is quite drastic, notifiers are what's used before we resort to a suspension.

Now, let's make sure you're all set. Please correct this indentation:

  • The Alcoholic: Skinner. His alcoholism causes him to lose his girlfriend Kay.
    • Kibby becomes a heavy drinker in his own right after his liver transplant, no less.

~DiploRaptor, just going through each part of your response:

i forgot about the YMMV thing with pages relating too your own work

This is a hard-and-fast rule, and we absolutely do not permit it.

And as for the grammar it was me writing down things to edit in the future when i had more time after i had included tropes. Not a great way to edit i know but since it wasn't a readily listed page i thought I would have some time to put it in order to make it into something nice, neat, and tidy Either way that is my fault.

If you want to play around with something, and don't have it ready, then you should use a Sandbox. You can put your own at Sandbox.Diplo Raptor. Anything that's not in the Sandbox is the live wiki, and we expect things in the live wiki to be the "final draft". You shouldn't be putting things in the wiki that you plan on fixing later.

I think the zero-context examples i was about to add said context but i may be mistaken either way that is a mistake on my part.

Just the same as above. The wiki is for final versions, and you shouldn't be adding examples that don't have context. Planning on "doing it later" makes room for A) forgetting to do it, and B) degrading the quality of the page as a whole. People who go on these pages deserve to have properly written examples.

Now, given those issues, I would want some proof that you can write grammatically correct examples with proper context. Can you rewrite this?

  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: The Original Nights Black Agents game had some amazingly awful bad guys but darn did you not feel sorry for the guy the party captured and tortured despite what he was helping accomplish. Also Throggrar

Note that this needs a fix to the "Also Throggrar" as well. Because it's a second example, review Example Indentation to see how you should format a trope with two examples.

I do NOT bare any malice towards this website.

I just thought it was okay to occasionally use formal language on this wiki.

It is common for revisions to be made to descriptions.

Please remove the suspensions and allow some usage of a formal tone.

There is nothing wrong with mixing both formal AND informal language on this wiki, surely?

~Stella Meredith

Two things:

  • Major description rewrites need to go through a dedicated thread first. Consensus needs to be reached before the change can be made.
  • In addition, you edit warred over your rewrite. That is never okay.

Edit: Make that three: there has been no acknowledgement of the points that nombre has stated regarding your ban.

~GravityGraedon, unfortunately, no. Refer to Example Indentation for how to format a trope/work with a single example, and a trope/work with multiple examples:

  • Trope/Work with one example: [Example text]

  • Trope/Work with multiple examples:
    • [Example 1's text]
    • [Example 2's text]

Can you try again?

I understand that is my fault, I just forgot is all. Sorry that happened, my fault.

...I may have completely forgotten that Sandbox was an option my bad I kind of rarely do edits. I will be sure to do so in the future.

I can, here is a quick rewrite of it

The Original Nights Black Agents game had some amazingly awful bad guys; but darn did you not feel sorry for the guy the party captured. Throggrar the rampaging minotaur who comically missed the point of how he caused problems for the group.

So the other day, I got suspended from TV tropes. I don't know why I got suspended, but I want to know why so I cannot do those mistakes again.

~DiploRaptor, I'm glad to see you acknowledge the issues and apologize, but I think we still have some stuff to go over, given your rewrite of Unintentionally Sympathetic, as requested:

  • The Original Nights Black Agents game had some amazingly awful bad guys; but darn did you not feel sorry for the guy the party captured. Throggrar the rampaging minotaur who comically missed the point of how he caused problems for the group.

Primary is that this is still lacking context. Based on this reading, I don't know what makes the bad guys sympathetic. What happened to make them sympathetic?

Secondly, is Throggrar a different example of a character who is Unintentionally Sympathetic? If that is the case, then it needs to be split out into its own second-level bullet. For example:

  • Trope Name
    • Example 1
    • Example 2

~Gregory15, we release suspensions when we feel the issue has been addressed, and you understand what to do in the future.

Both Berrenta and I have advised you of the issues here and here.

Please explain what constitutes an example with sufficient context, and how we handle image changes on the wiki.

~Sleep_is_God, welcome back, and thanks for the acknowledgement of missing that comment. Before we move forward on a suspension release, please reiterate for me what's the proper action to take if your example is deleted and you'd like to add it back (or, vice versa, an example you deleted is restored).

Thanks nombretomado .

In the case of the example, to prevent edit warring it would've been better to take it to discussions or cleanup first, especially since it'd been removed before (or even messaging other user (s) involved).

And also make sure read responses in reasons properly to avoid missing responses like that in the first place.

I would like to appeal my suspension. If I understand correctly, I was suspended for 'edit warring', a term I had never even heard of before, and 'removing things that are deemed opinions'. Let me be clear, it is never my intention of starting fights with anybody, and it's fine to have opinions. But, involving the subject matter and the place where I tend to edit (Survivor Fan Characters), the fans of the webcomic are known for being hostile, toxic, rude, and bullying. Even the creator of the comic has acknowledged this many times. And a lot of direct, personal attacks tend to get launched at a certain user in the community simply because the fan-base does not like this person or likes THEIR opinions. So, when I look on here, I see unfair, unwarranted, and rude statements involving this person's character(s) clearly edited by people from that fan-base and community. These are not factual bits of information, but rather just rude insults meant to bash the character(s) in question and their creator. So, I felt it was only fair to remove such hateful comments, because those are not necessary. Having an opinion is one thing, but not personally attacking people with false facts to try and cover up your bullying with "It's just my opinion!" Also, I never was "edit warring" with anybody. I just removed items that were incorrect or abusive in nature, and that's it. I tend to not even leave comments as to why, since I don't like to attack others. The only time I said something was "Removing this because it is a personal attack, not an opinion". Which I don't find to be starting fights, but just stating a fact.

However, because this is the first time (and hopefully only time) this has happened, I figure that you believe what I'm doing is wrong. If it is, then alright, I guess I'll...not remove things that I know to be incorrect...because they're just "opinions" or something? I still find that to be wrong, but if it's your website and you want this to be allowed, then okay. Just please tell me what you want me to do or not do in the future and I'll try to make this happen.

Thank you, I would have gotten to all of this sooner but have sadly been busy

Different example I don't know why it did not register me making them two different examples.

The Original Nights Black Agents game had some amazingly awful bad guys; but darn did you not feel sorry for the guy the party captured. Mostly from the fact he was just an actor hired on by the Vampires unaware of what was going on

Indeed, you were edit warring, but there's also issue involving page ownership and criticism. Per The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours, you have no say on how people see your characters. If you can't take negative criticism, then there will be problems.

~DiploRaptor, OK, we're getting somewhere with the context and indentation issues, but the grammar concerns are unfortunately still there. The rewrite you've provided is too poor in grammar to be on the main wiki.

Please use the Get Help with English thread moving forward. You can request that your edits be posted to the wiki on your behalf; a troper assisting you may be willing to do so. If you can show sufficient improvement there, and get little to no corrections, you can come back here and appeal again. Unfortunately, the level of grammar you've displayed here doesn't quite cut it.

Thank you for discussing your other issues.

~Dinogal95, the suspension is on the entire wiki; unfortunately, we can't release you just to your sandbox only. Please follow my directions here and continue to use the Get Help with English thread until your grammar shows sufficient improvement. As I told DiploRaptor above, that's when you get little to no corrections.
