This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

I’m not going to bother looking for my dumpster fire of a page, all you need to know is I won’t make the same mistake twice. May I edit again?

I was recently thumped over a paranoid outburst regarding surveillance that I made on the General US Politics thread. I am more than willing to admit that I have earned the thump and accompanying suspension, as it was the latest in a long string of similar posts exuding extreme depression, anxiety, and anger (some of which have also earned thumps), after other users had made it clear that such behavior was not constructive or welcome. I request that the suspension be lifted.

I want to make it clear that, whether or not the suspension is lifted, I am sorry that I allowed my emotions and psychological issues to get the better of me and that I have made them into a problem for my fellow users. I will be doing my best to keep myself under control from now on and prevent the mistake that led to the suspension from ever being repeated. As political discussions are where my problems flare up, I have already taken the initiative to remove all political threads from my watchlist, and do not intend on revisiting them anytime soon.

I'm sorry if this post comes off as being insincere or overly formal. I'm not used to having screwed up badly enough to warrant apologizing like this, so I've been racking my brain for the past few hours trying to compose my request for lenience.

Regardless of the outcome, I will completely accept the mods' judgment without complaint.

~Zero W: OK. Suspension lifted, you may find the pages of Administrivia to be useful reading.

~Batman Kal El: You're still suspended because your one post in the Help with English thread contained errors — really obvious ones, too.

~Trash Jack: You've been warned a lot of times. You've been told to stop in the thread and been thumped by us. For some reason the message isn't taking. Is this suspension going to be the point where you figure out that we're serious?

I also have to say this: if you have mental health issues, you should seek professional care. We cannot be responsible for your well-being, especially if you are acting in a way that appears like it could lead to or derive from self-harming behavior. This is a long-standing site policy.

In the interim, I've changed your general suspension to a block on the On-Topic Conversations forum.

Yes, I will be taking the message seriously from now on. As it stands, however, I am not currently in a financial position where I am able to receive professional help. Regardless of my own issues or ability to obtain help in dealing with them, it was wrong of me to make it TV Tropes' and its users' problem, and I will not do so again.

I am perfectly fine with the suspension being commuted to an OTC block. That is where I have been causing trouble, after all. Nonetheless, even if the block is lifted in the future, I have no plans of returning to any political discussions for the foreseeable future, hence my removal of such threads from my watchlist.

Thank you for your leniency. I will not let it go to waste.

On a side note, I must point out that due to the suspension extending to private messages, I was unable to read the multiple messages directing me to this thread until after it was changed to a block on OTC. I am not sure if this was an oversight in the latest site update, but it did delay my finding out of what I needed to do to get in touch with the mod team for most of yesterday. As I did not know that I had to specifically come here until I attempted to edit a page on the wiki (where the error message directed me here), perhaps with the next update, a link to this thread should also be added to the "you are blocked from posting in the forums/private messaging" error messages, and/or private message reading should be unblocked (but sending still restricted), for anyone who earns a suspension in the future?

In that case, I'll leave the OTC block on for a little while. Issues with the PM system interacting with suspensions and the lack of proper notifications when you attempt a banned activity are on the list for tech fixes.

Perhaps, but time changes a person. When I stopped going to church regularly is closer to then then it is to now. It's before I had my first trans boss. Before one of my closest friends was not only bi, but poly as well. Before I left the republican party. I've apologized previously, and I will again if I need to. However, if there is nothing that can be done, I would respectfully request that this account and everything related to it be deleted.

We don't do the "delete accounts" thing, but I'll ask the other mods if we might consider letting you back.

Soban: On consultation, we'll take you at your word on a probationary basis. Your suspensions, except for OTC, have been removed. Keep up the good behavior and you can ask for OTC back in a week or so.

Hello, I was recently edit/suspended. I'm afraid I was unfamiliar with the suspendable offenses, and I would like to know what I was suspended for.

I will attempt to do better in the future.

Greetings, ~themetalstickman. You kept removing an Artistic License – Physics example from The Last Jedi without any explanation.

When people disagree with your edit you should discuss it and not simply repeat it, and deletions ought to be explained.

I was recently suspended regarding my attempts to add a reference to a Supernatural/NCIS crossover regarding the definition of 'Wrong Genre Savvy'; I assumed that it was sufficient to cite this as an example as key members of the NCIS team spend most of the storyline 'handicapped' by the fact that they think the Winchesters just believe they're hunting monsters (as well as referencing Mc Gee's thoughts on how he might write a book about this depicting the Winchesters and Bobby as ignorant hicks who see monsters in things that aren't there), but since this was apparently incorrect, I apologise for my misinterpretation, and assure you I will not repeat this action again once my suspension is over.

Septimus Heap I do understand the rules of editing. At first I joined simply to edit certain ones that seemed to irritate me but overtime I realize I started making similar mistakes. I'm sorry and will do my best to do better.

~Hero Seeker: Um, to be honest I don't know if that is sound grammar. Maybe you should ask for edits in this thread for a while?

~Marcus S Lazarus: Actually, you were suspended because when the example you added on WrongGenreSavvy.Fan Fic was removed, you simply readded it. Disagreements need to be resolved by discussion (e.g in this thread) not simply by readding the example ad nauseam.

~Doot

You are suspended as your grammar is not on par with our standards, as you have demonstrated in your post. Usually, it involves a lack of punctuation, though I also saw a case which has more serious issues. Left unchecked, grammar issues leave a mess for other users to clean up.

We have a thread dedicated to help you with English grammar. Run an example or two that you'd like to add, and users can give pointers on what needs improvement.

Okay, so I haven't been to this site for a few days.

While I guess asking for counter-opinions about some guy on You Tube didn't work out as I hoped and my response wasn't the best possible one, I still think that my words were twisted around in a rather provocative way and that I responded in kind to being spoken to in an unnecessarily sarcastic, rude, snide and mocking manner. That's without mentioning that I view my attempts to counter hurt feelings by suggesting another You Tuber (a feminist one, whom I thought would be better received) being twisted around as flamebaiting as word-twisting.

I've gotten clarity some things about controversial subjects before, started by asking in a similar way and gotten tactful, solid counter-arguments or short directions where better to ask.

The only things where I think I went overboard where when I replied to a person's comment asking if I hurt his(?) "little monkey feelings" and when I replied to another person switching topic to personal matter (a post also thumped by a mod) by getting even more personal myself. I still stand by what I said about her(?) sending me pm:s, no matter how much she(?) denies it.

I make no bones that if I find some comment rude, I do want to let another person know. Of course, I can just as well either let such comments slide more often if it's not really that big of a deal in the first place or simply report a post to mods. If responding, I can modulate my response more and evaluate what a comment is really calling for and whether it is really as offensive as I first perceived. Most of all, I won't be asking more about YouTubers in "post your random thoughts" -thread.

And since I noticed I've got one pm, can I at least glance my pm box if I won't get de-suspended?

Here's my thoughts.
