The vocals are Ozzy Osbourne at his least tolerable, but the guitar is Tony Iommi being, as usual, the undisputed king of the Riff. The random funk/Latin drum break is like an amusing yet unrelated aside comment in musical form, and somehow works. 8/10

50/100 - Everything is well done within the stylistic boundaries it sets out for itself with the careful conversation between piano and vocals. I guess the issue is that even in spite of that it simply becomes a few cleanly picked notes counterpointing a rambling vocal narrative that both stay far too static for anything worth gripping onto to arise.

that beginning with the sung/echoed whisper Our Father is kinda hilarious with how it's sung. Like it's just so silly his voice with this. It's already narm enough when metal takes on religious themes like that, but that VOICE.

Still, after that part, it goes into a pretty cool riff and groove and that drumming is pretty great. Still, those VOCALS. I CAN'T HELP BUT LAUGH, OH MY GOD, THIS IS HILARIOUS. Musically, this track is great, but those vocals remind me more of Tenacious D than of, say, Black Sabbath, except even more over-the-top than Tenacious D if you can believe that. Even better when his voice goes out of tune around 3:30-something, like oh my goodness. AND THOSE DEMON VOCALS, even more reminding me of Tenacious D, more specifically David Grohl as the Devil in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Thank you for blessing me with this. This is AMAZING. Cheese/10.

6/10. It's an okay jazz-pop song but I never liked Yoko Ono much.

7/10. System of a Down is admittedly a pretty big guilty pleasure of mine. As much as they were a plague on the anti-nu metal crowd when they first began, they gradually turned into an avant/prog metal band and their music became pretty damn great, with Aerials being a precursor to this sound. The rapid fire changes in dynamics work well against the vocals, although if there was one major problem it's that the song means nothing. Like, literally. Ask SOAD, they'll say the same thing.

[up][up] 8/10. A good song by SOAD.

[up] To me,System were never a part of the Nu Metal scene. They had very little in common in terms of sound with bands that were around the same time. Anyway, your song gets a 4.5/10. I really didn't like this song, to be blunt. The intro went on for longer than it needed to be, the singer's voice really irked the hell out of me, and the song went for too long and was repetitive to the point that I was happy when it finished. Overall, I found it to be long, boring and not very pleasant.

[up][up]: Let's face it, this is kind of schmaltzy, and Phil Spector's overcooked production does not help at all. Still, the Beatles are capable enough songwriters and performers to make this one cheese of the likable variety. 7/10

50/100 - Love-hate relationship with its strangely imblanced production job, so-so with the rather delicate guitar work, cool with the oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh vocal harmonies.

50/100 - Doom metal lite? It's touching on much of the same ground Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Black Sabbath, The Obsessed and so on do. Admittedly it leans more on the rocky side with better production but comes off as a bit too clean in a way contradictory to its gritty 70's dirty bar room swagger. Inoffensive ultimately.

Sophisticated composition, discreet jazz-y undertones and focused sense of identity (which songs of such length often lack) of this track make for a great musical experience, 5/5.

This is surprisingly competent for something made to play on the in-game radio in The Sims. Replace the literal Singing Simlish with lyrics in a real language and it could pass for a song by some established female-fronted power metal act - hardly my favourite form of metal, but again, it's impressively authentic given where it comes from. 6/10, but many more points for effort.

These 9 minutes do only one thing, and they do it well: set an eerie and mysterious mood. Little to no variety within the track, but it's not really needed. It's a perfect soundtrack for a walk in the forest or exploring abandoned urban areas when put in an infinite loop, 3/5.

[up]7.5/10. Interesting guitarist. I presume he's from either Mongolia or from the Russian area closer to Mongolia, right? The soft electronic and percussion textures throughout it make it a good song for traveling, as well as for sightseeing.

Ok, let's go to my country, now: Madredeus - Os Senhores da Guerra (transl: 'The War Lords', from the album O Espírito da Paznote ). I'll translate this as close as possible:

Outside there are the war lords

And they're already singing hymns of victory

What is the history of this earth?

It's fear, right there.

Here inside are the men waiting

United in the fate of the earth

There's no longer memory, of peace on earth

It's fear, right there.

On earth, another rising day

Oh, it's one dying day less

It's so little the glory of a war

And the men who make it without victories

There is no longer memory, of peace on earth.

It's fear, right there.

On earth, another rising day

Oh, it's one dying day less

[down]@Lyendith: Classic guitar, played by one of the founders of the group (and the only one who remained in the group throughout the years) Pedro Ayres Magalhães. Also, it's not a violin, it's a combination of cello/violoncelo (Francisco Ribeiro) and accordeon (Gabriel Gomes), iirc (I'll have to check the liner notes again).

That voice is pure honey. <3 Very good instrumentation too with those stuttering violins and… is that harp? Or classic guitar? Lyrics are relevant without being too in your face (though kind of depressing). A tune made of beautiful despair.

I've never seen this movie - even though I thoroughly enjoyed The Lion King and have heard that this was the best direct-to-video Disney movie by a mile, the reputation these things have for severe Sequelitis still put me off. I will say one thing, though - Disney songs only ever appealed to me in context, with the storylines and flashy visuals and suchlike. Outside of that context, they're usually too overbearing and overdone for my tastes, and even if it does have nice gospel vocal harmonies this is no exception. 6/10
