Final Fantasy XIV

Mist Dragon isn't too tough, but the swooping attack is barely telegraphed because it's too quick.

It's telegraphed if you find where it's perched at the edge of the arena, but that's not really made clear in any way, and if you don't do it in time the telegraph is impossible to react to.

Maybe if the text call instead said "the dragon is preparing to swoop! Find it in the mists to avoid the attack!"

Granted not much has been going on in the world of FF, Pyros launched, I guess, but I haven't even touched Pagos and it seems like the ship has sailed on doing it efficiently, so eh?

Though in more exciting news, Fanfest is this Friday, and I'm really excited for what's gonna be announced.

A new expansion is obvious, it taking place in Garlemald is also extra likely. What I'm curious about is if the Bluefever leaks prove right with the job announcements.

I wouldn't be sure if Blue Mage or the Gunblade job (if there is one) would be the cinematic job this time around, assuming it's not one in the same, either way, Friday-Sunday should be fun.

Gunblade job seems more likely to me for the cinematic job since ideally it would be a job tied to the lore of the location we are heading like Dragoon, Monk and Samurai where for the previous expansions.

I just really want Blue Mage and I can die a happy dragon, that's my one hope from fanfest.

If the leaks are correct and we're getting it early in 4.5, it'll probably be what kills me.

So wait aside from Blue Mage, what did these leaks say exactly?

Blue Mage as a support-heavy Melee DPS, possibly ready to go in 4.5

Soldier as a Gunblade class, Melee DPS

Dancer as a healer.

And implications of Viera and possibly Ronso as playable races.

Edit: This is from someone who was very likely an insider at Square, as he called every plot detail of 4.2, 4.3, and 4.4 pretty much perfectly except for some pedantic mistakes like using "Adam and Eve" as the name for Alphascape 4, which as far as we know could have been the internal name.

Unfortunately the leaker decided he was going to stop after a big streamer called to hunt him down and get him expelled for leaking content. But that's a conversation for places not here, I think.

Ah. Hope that's true because I am down for a Gunblade class.

Well that dashes my hopes of Blue Mage the caster tank.

I still don't really trust a leak (especially ones of the "here's exactly what you want" variety) until I have the game in my hands, but that's me.

BLU as tank would be neat. Would lend itself nicely to stuff like Vampire, Revenge Blast, and Limit Glove.

I don't think the leak is exactly what anyone wants

When it comes to leaks, I feel like as long as a few things are wrong so it doesn't ruin every surprise, it's fine, but if it's actually 100% legit it needs to get plugged.

That said in this case it's hard to say, like Enlong said it has a lot of "Exactly what I want to see"s, but at the same time, the XIV team really likes granting the wishes of their fandom and Viera have been on the backburner for a while (they were originally going to be the HW race until they decided to make a XIV original race in the Au Ra), and Gunblades, Blue Mage and Dancer are all massive "wants" that even without the leak people probably would be expecting. Really Ronso is the only thing that makes me go "wait a second" with it and doubt its veracity, even though I'd be fine with them.

I do hope that if Blue Mage is one of the new jobs, Yoshi-P appears on stage dressed as a sexy blonde teacher with a whip. That would be awesome.

If they add Viera... ... I'm getting deja vu, I keep saying the exact same thing about this and I can never remember where I have and haven't already.

Heck no, I want the job design from FFTA. A saber and a Nice Hat!

We already have enough swords and gunblade is up to bat now so I would prefer a whip for Blue Mage. Or maybe a mace, maces are also good.

Aesthetically I'd like if it followed XI's lead and went with an Arabian Nights theme for Blue Mage.

Blue Mage is a bit of an odd one because it's never had a really solid theme to it besides the Power Copying and Blue scheme, and even then that's been optional a lot of time for characters like Strago, Quistis and Quina, Blue Mage has had everything from whips, to forks, to twin blades, it hasn't really settled on any kind of iconic design like Red Mage having their Nice Hat and Magic Knight tendencies, or Dragoons and their lances and jumps.

I do however hope that they carry over and adapt the thematic version of XI's Blue Mage where becoming one is not a good choice for your longevity. In that game (for those who don't know), it's done by undergoing a process that effectively grafts monster parts onto you and does really bad things to your soul, effectively putting you on a death clock of not If you'll lose control and mutate into a horrible monster, but if you'll die in battle before it happens.

I think the Garleans starting to screw around with Aether and the Resonants being a thing would be a good excuse for that to happen.

What if we get a Legatus as a Blue Mage job teacher?

Garlean + Magic. Does not compute.

Resonants being a thing now makes that equation make a bit more sense.

If they wanted to go all out with it, they could give us Garlean player characters and give them a unique starting intro that shows them being made Resonant to explain them being able to be caster jobs.

But weren't the Resonant experiments carried out by a guy who was shunned and they called mad?

Yeah, from Varis being a reasonable authority figure, but with him relegated to being a puppet ruler while not one, but two Ascians runs the empire I'd be willing to bet we'll be seeing a lot more Resonants in the continued storyline.

The Resonant requires a living Echo user to resonate ones Aether to. Without Krile I'm not sure the Empire isn't able to make more Resonants let alone with Zenos's mad scientist dead..
