Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Switch ports of XV and VIIR are already a pipe dream unless those rumors of a Switch Pro are actually true, so XVI Switch ain’t happening.
Curious thing is, according to PEGI, this is the first FF that warrants an 18+ rating (provisionally for now). Even Type-0 only got 16+. This really is an artistic direction that FF hasn't gone before.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Games don't actually need to run on the Switch for you to be able to play them on the Switch, as Control, Hitman and Resident Evil VII can attest to. Of course, that service is relegated to people who have very strong internet connections.
What are the usual standards for getting an 18+ vs 16+?
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyNintendo’s online has been.....spotty at best. Maybe it works better in Japan but I’d rather play those games on PS 4/5 if that’s the only option.
I hope we at least get more ports of older FF games on Switch at least
There's something hilarious about the FF16 protagonist being given a mundane name "Clive". Considered the heavily grounded setting of XVI, it makes sense, but after FF protagonists having names like Cloud, Tidus, Terra, Squall, Noctis, Lightning, etc. (barring Cecil), it's still funny to think about.

Vaan and Ashe are fairly mundane names too.
It kinda reminds me of early magazine previews of VII mistranslated Cloud’s name as “Claude”
PEGI 12 (Final Fantasy X/X-2)
Video games that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy characters or non-realistic violence towards human-like characters would fall in this age category. Sexual innuendo or sexual posturing can be present, while any bad language in this category must be mild. Gambling as it is normally carried out in real life in casinos or gambling halls can also be present (e.g. card games that in real life would be played for money).
PEGI 16 (XII to XV)
This rating is applied once the depiction of violence (or sexual activity) reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. The use of bad language in games with a PEGI 16 rating can be more extreme, while games of chance, and the use of tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs can also be present.
PEGI 18 (XVI)
The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of gross violence, apparently motiveless killing, or violence towards defenceless characters. The glamorisation of the use of illegal drugs and explicit sexual activity should also fall into this age category.

Motiveless killing or violence towards defenceless characters...
Yikes.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.Huh I didn’t know that specific rating criteria
Or they could be named like Butz. Thank goodness for dub named changes.
So a mundane name like Clive. Could they be going for the same thing they did with Terra, who is Tina in the Japanese version as that sounded exotic to them?
-Witty line-Violence against children like Joshua can amp up an age rating like no ones business too.
It's possible that they're trying to fit in with the more "realistic" dark fantasy setting by giving the characters more conventional names.
x4 What did XII have that warranted the PEGI 16 rating by that criteria then? For what it's worth, I'm sometimes kinda dense or insensitive to that stuff.
As for 'Clive', I haven't read the article yet, but yeah, my first was also that maybe 'Clive' just sounds exotic to Japanese ears. To me it does sound like an incredibly dull, though not very common, name.
Reminded me of something I read on this wiki, I'm pretty sure on the page about Tetsuo: The Iron Man, where it talked about a character having a deliberately ordinary name, but not extremely ordinary like 'John Smith', more like 'Alan Jones'. That's a tangent though, nothing to do with anything.
There's 'conventional' and there's 'boring' though :P But for what it's worth, I'm all for normal names in fantasy settings; there's only so many Clouds and Squalls and Aeriththsths and Wakkas and Vaans I can take.

Vaan is spelled weird but its otherwise a fairly normal name.
Watch his name get changed to “Clyde” in western localizations.
Then again the only noticeable name changes in recent F Fs are “Ecliar” -> “Claire” in XIII and “Cidney” -> “Cindy” in XV
Also, this gave me a good laugh

The website is already in English, Clive is probably pretty set in stone.
XII and later games get 16+ ratings for realistic portrayals of violence towards people. X/X-2 don't have the same explicit portrayals - mostly fiends and if someone does get killed, it's not realistic or explicitly portrayed.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.XII for example had someone getting an arrow in the chest and dying in the opening cutscene.
Disgusted, but not surprisedFFXIII should get an 18+ rating since it viciously murdered fun in cold blood.
. .. .... I just went with a cheap shot for a quick laugh.
-Witty line-So here’s a pretty ominous thing that was revealed in the new VIIR Ultimania; the constellation in the background of the ending during Cloud and Sephiroth’s one on one fight specifically resembles Safer Sephiroth. That’s...kinda creepy
Some more stuff from the Ultimania:
- Some of the rejected Conero mission dresses for Tifa include; a maid outfit, a dancer outfit, a sexy policewoman outfit, and a “chocobo bikini” (I assume it would have been a shoutout to Chocolina from XIII-2) among many others
- Tifa’s Kimono dress actually went through about 10 different variations
- Aerith’s second dress originally had her hair up in a bun but they felt it made her too a bit too different
- Parts of the Shinra building are specifically designed after SE’s headquarters (specifically the bathrooms)
- There is a cut chapter that would have been between chapters 7 and 8 which would have had Tifa in the spotlight, it was supposed to have some more character moments for her, Marlene, Jessie, and Marle and gone into how Tifa gets the dress as well as more lore involving Avalanche’s ties with Wutai. You also would have actually gone into Avalanche’s secret hideout in this chapter
So that's why the mystery basement remains unknowable.
I think they made the right choice if it was between that and Barret's focus chapter. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed that. Still, it's something I want to see. Maybe extra content for when all the FFVIIR chapters get inevitably released together?
My Chocograph digging in IX is at a crawl.
I've found 9 chocographs, but I'm not getting much from either the Lagoon or the forest.
It's rather frustrating. I'm just getting shit for all my efforts.
And it's not like other stuff (KOS-MOS!) where I don't know what to do to make it work. I've done this before, so the fact it feels like I'm not getting anywhere is kinda irking.
One Strip! One Strip!
I can't even fathom FFXVI running on Switch.
