Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Its gameplay set the standard for Xenoblade to improve upon, so there's that.
Watch SymphogearI recall that a ways back there were some very strong criticisms of XII, mostly centering around the twist that your party spent the majority of the game dancing on the strings of the real bad guys, and the people you thought were the villains were actually Well Intentioned Extremists trying to save the world, leading to the critique that 3/4 of the game only exists because your characters don't realize that the Villain Has a Point.
You rarely see this anymore, though.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."From what I recall at the time of release, the localization and visuals were praised but people didn't react well to the characters (even besides Vaan), and the storytelling style was very different from most FF games. I wasn't hot on it myself but I was like, 14 at the time and barely understood what the story was about - it took a long time for me to reappraise the game. Playing Tactics, which was a better executed Matsuno game, helped me understand the appeal of it and what it was trying to go for.
Those criticisms still exist but the game as a whole is viewed more positively now. It'll never be the most popular FF (in fairness, it has its flaws), but that's the cool thing about the series - there's no game that's going to be universally loved because they're all different, but each one is someone's favorite even if some are more popular than others.

I like a lot of 12's story and dialogue but I find the pacing absolutely atrocious, both from a gameplay perspective and a story one.
I'd just like to go on record as saying that XII is also my favourite FF game too.
In my opinion Vayne is still villainous, even though he does have a point, the man himself will admit he's no saint. I think the thing people got stuck on was having multiple villainous factions, specifically villainous factions in conflict with each other.
This is just my interpretation, but I always thought there was a nice parallel between Vayne and Ashe. Both are set on a course to becoming villains, Vayne by the thing with his brothers and general politics in Archades, and Ashe by her desire for revenge; then when Vayne sees the truth behind the world he leaps over the line into full villainy (albeit with some good intentions), whereas when Ashe discovers the truth she steps back at the last minute.

"If you are going through hell, keep going." - Winston ChurchillVayne may dress it up in pretty words but he is still very much oppressing Dalmasca.
I just find the pacing slow.
By itself, it wouldn't kill the game, read and loved worse paced stories, but with the tedious, barely interactive gameplay, for me, the only field FFXII excels in is as a sleeping aid.
I don't think FFXII's gameplay is any less interactive compared to previous FF games. It's literally just ATB except you can move your characters around the arena in 3d and real time. Maybe if you put too many gambits, but personally I just find it too much of a hassle to do anything but minimal gambits and control everything else manually.

I remember seeing preview pictures for XII in some gaming magazine and that it was going to have the usual stand in a row battle system, either ATB or something similar. Then there was a breakdown with the developers and the game was changed to its final battle design.
-Witty line-XII's battle system really seems to be polarizing. Plenty of people think it's the best one in the era, and plenty of people can't stand it.
Bleye knows Sabers.Said it before (this whole thread is rather circular), but XII is also my favourite. The world is well-realised, the characters are interesting (mostly), and I really enjoy the battle system, though I understand why some people don't.
XII's world and artistic design are fantastic. It has the best moogles, hands down.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireMy issue with XII was how lackluster the Espers were. Worst summons in an FF game ever. They looked good but they just were not worth using.
Oh, and Yiazmat was some garbage.

Disgusted, but not surprisedAt least they had summons, can't think of a modern Final Fantasy title without them to be honest, they're almost mandatory at this point

New theme music also a boxThey have had summons in the series since III.
XII summons were a bit different since they were not the traditional series summons like Bahamut. Instead they were the Lucavi from FF Tactics and a bunch of callbacks to previous FF villains. Exodus the Judge-Sal for example is based on FF V’s Exdeath.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI found XII quite boring to be honest. Zodiac did quite a bit to at least make characters feel like they have a defined role in combat, but the gambit system was more frustrating than anything, bonus bosses were time sinks for the sake of being time sinks, and I just couldn't bring myself to care about anyone in the party.
Also, why make an accessory that makes every treasure chest give you utter crap for loot? What is even the point?
I believe that’s what we Cubans refer to as “jodiendo contigo”.
Ergo, screwing with you.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."A few chests have hidden treasure with the Diamond Armlet.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.XII's summons were kind of interesting lore-wise in that ALL of them are evil.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThere are mods that change that accessory to be one that gives the base loot + bonus loot. Also there are mods that change its function.
That's basically just cheating with extra steps.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.x1-x2: Yeah, at that point there's no reason not to just go whole hog and mod the rare loot to be guaranteed drops, or otherwise outright cheat
Well most of them are full transformation mods. [1] There are a lot of them on PC that that fixes issues with progression, rebalances all the weapon types to be useful and ditches random damage, rebalances mage and gives players access to Waterga, remove Reverse exploits, ditches those 1 time only hard to spawn chests with spells and unique equipment. As well as making the game harder in general, it is honestly my preferred way to play.
For the changes the Diamond armlet specifically it 'doubles the ceiling of potential Gil that can be obtained from a chest. Also, the Rare item found without the DA becomes the Common item found with the DA.'
I also played FF 8 and FF 10. But both gave me the image of FF as boring game. So I made my conclusion that Final Fantasy is like reading a novel. Maybe the simple and turn based battle system doesn't give any tense feeling to me. But after playing FF 12 this broke up. I don't feel any joy in the FF series other than FF 12. So I'm afraid to purchase the newest remake of FF 7.
I can't change my profile pic. wtf. I think It's a bug. I already searched it.
