Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Well considering they are iconic characters now, they’ll definitly be played up.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
I believe it's called A Way to a smile.
Plus, hasn't it been said Cloud was acting that way due to a literally depression disease?
Not that he didn't have some things to be a bit messed up over. Watching someone you care for get Sephy-shanked in front of you will do that.

One Strip! One Strip!Yuffie and Vincent will most likely be mandatory, considering the extra effort that would need to be put into accounting for the cutscene and voice acting differences caused by them being there or not. Someone in an interview said that issue is why the two never appear in any CGI cutscenes in the original game, and I vaguely recall something similar being said about why there's never been optional party members in any games after VII.
Dirge of Cerberus is kind of a little microcosm of everything wrong with the Compilation; meaning, depth and weight sacrificed in the name of style.
That it focused on Vincent Valentine, a character whose whole appeal rested on them being really cool, is kind of fitting.
Pretty much, though I'd go further and say that Dirge doesn't even succeed at being stylish. By most accounts it's an incredibly dull and janky third-person shooter with character designs that range from mediocre to embarrassingly bad.
That's the in-story reason but Cloud is like that in AC because Nomura wanted to write him that way due to fans thinking that's what Cloud was.
I blame Kingdom Hearts.
Fair enough.
One Strip! One Strip! The disease was supposed to kill anyone infected by it but we never see that in Advent Children, so it boils down to just being a source of angst for Cloud and Not!Roxas.
x4 Yeah by Dirge a lot of FF's attempts at style had become kind of laughable. ZIPPERS AND BELTS. AND ANGST.
Everything became Chuunibyou fodder.
Who in AC is like Roxas?
The little boy character they made for it. He's a younger, darker haired Roxas.
Doesn't Hojo straight up tell you that he's Sephiroth's father even if you don't recruit Vincent? Though I suppose you do find out who the mother is and how Sephiroth got his crazy powers from Vincent's sidequest.
Denzel guys... Denzel
I need to finish FF 7 but I am to lazy to do that now. Not to mention, I like to take my time when I am playing a video game.
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."> Yuffie and Vincent will most likely be mandatory
I see them being more like future DLC
New theme music also a boxBringing Vincent into the battle with Hojo gives you a pretty cool moment, but between the two optional characters Yuffie gets way more development. The Wutai quest is lengthy enough that you feel you really get to know her, and she has some pretty fun interactions as a party member while Vincent mostly broods when you talk to him.
As I recall, Vincent just says that Hojo was the one who should have atoned (by sleeping) and Hojo spends the whole scene talking to Cloud.

Even though Hojo does refer to himself as Sephiroth's father, I always get the sense he means like a creator rather than any real meaning of being a father. When you are willing to experiment on your child, lie about their past, and subject their life as one big experiment, then it's obvious that your so-called interest in your child is superficial.
In some sense, Hojo is what Shou Tucker would be if he was able to do his evil on a grand scale-though Hojo is actually older conceptually than Shou Tucker.
I think that's a given considering Hojo talks about everything like an experiment. Particularly Cloud.
Gosh, imagine if Hojo learned FMA's alchemy; if his son was still a kid and he captured Red he would so be interested in making a chimera out of his son, so he could have the attributes of Red's species.
Thank you, now I will try to burn that horrifying mental image from my head.
Yuffie's kind of astonishing in how much extra dialogue she has. She has more dialogue than some mandatory members like Red. It's pretty clear her scenario had a lot of love and care poured into it, her abundance of personality makes her one of my favorite characters in the game.
Well, she is a chatterbox.
I always liked Yuffie and Vincent and was always kind of puzzled why they weren’t mandatory so they can’t be skipped considering the amount of content 7 already has
IIRC it was due to crunch.
I wonder if Vincent and Yuffie will be mandatory in the remake. Every subsequent appearance by the FFVII gang shows they were canonically recruited, and it's not like anyone deliberately tries to miss them anyway.
