Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Oh, no, I didn't think anyone forgave Kuja. Zidane tells him off before the fight with Deathgaze.
I just think his realization of "Man, I've been kind of an asshole my whole life and want to make amends." is wholly at odds with his unapologetic death and destruction prior. We don't even really get to see his thought process the moment he goes from "I'm going to kill you all if I can't destroy the crystal." to "Oh no, what have I done?"
I think this is one of the reasons Necron exists. Kuja in the final battle is a dying man having a breakdown about it. That's extremely pitiable. Having the true final boss be against the embodiment of death is a much more feel-good thing to triumph over.
That and Necron looks freaking awesome! Even if he is a bit of a cheat during battle.
I mean, that's one of the guesses that's already been stated here or in other places, so it's unfortunately not a surprise. I'm going to hold out hope, but that would require them to like, literally remake the game at this point, I think.
Unrelated, I was in the book store today and saw a couple novels from FF 7, along with some comics. Who knows, maybe someday we'll get that stupid story where Tidus does to a blitzball bomb! I know I'd read it out of morbid curiosity about how stupid it is. (Also aren't there a few other books written for other FF properties?)
There's quite a few FF novels, several of which never left Japan.
Possibly the most famous one in Japan was the FFII novelization that came out a few months after the game which has a lot of changes from the game's plot, and a lot of extra character and setting details not in the game.
Some novelizations of I, II, and III that came out in 2012 for the series' 25th anniversary.
Novelizations of FFIV and FFIV The After Years that came out in 2008-2009 to go along with The After Year's release.
The FFVII short stories to tie in with Advent Children, which are relatively known about since they were released in English.
The infamous FFX-2.5.
A whole series of novels based on FFXI.
A prequel novel to FFXIII, and a couple spin-off novels for XIII-2.
And if we're talking about manga too, there's several with different levels of obscurity.
Adaptations of I and III from soon after their release.
An old FFV-based gag manga starring Bartz and Boco.
A manga adaptation of the first book in that FFXI novel series.
A totally separate FFXI-based manga that only got a few chapters before being effectively canceled.
A partial adaptation of FFXII.
A Type-0 spin-off manga.
A Crystal Chronicles adaptation.
On the subject of obscure FF media, there's also a couple of FF anime I'm sure many people don't know about. The 90's OVA "Legend of the Crystals", which is a distant sequel to FFV, and the early 00's TV series Final Fantasy Unlimited, which itself had a couple novels and an audio drama.
I watched "Legend of the Crystals" when I was a kid.
It was...alright I guess.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI actually have a DVD of FF Unlimited, which for some reason I've never watched. I've had it a while too. It's only the first one, though.
Is the novelization of II where the Emperor's name being Mateus came from?
Heart of StoneIt is. Here's an outline of the huge differences in the novel's plot.

Interestingly, the name "Mateus" has stuck around, but not applied to the actual emperor it seems. One of the Totema from FFTA and an Esper from FFXII share the name.
Don't forget Exodus the Judge-Sal, who is very clearly based on a combination of the FFV Big Bad Exdeath and another FFV boss Atomos. Or Zeromus the Condemner, who is based on FFIV's Big Bad Zemus' One-Winged Angel Final Boss form. Or Chaos, the Walker of the Wheel, who is based on the Big Bad and Final Boss of the very first FF game. Or Famfrit the Darkening Cloud, based on the FF III Big Bad the Cloud of Darkness.
Pretty much all of the Espers who weren't bosses from the original FF Tactics game (XII is set in Ivalice just like FF Tactics) are shoutouts to previous FF Big Bads.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI've heard of FF Unlimited but I haven't watched it myself beyond maybe the first episode at best. I wonder if it's any good...
There's also Final Fantasy Stranger (?) in which an FF fan and his sister end up in a mashup FF world and the fan gets discovers he can still see stats and shit as a special power. It actually starts off with him and his sister having fun in the first volume before something terrible happens to her.
It was easy to spot because the covers are SUPER colorful and the protagonist is almost too noodly on it.
It was horrific honestly, terrible plotting then the climax happens and suddenly the MC can use a summon for no reason to win the fight... the end.
I may rag on some FF entries but Unlimited was worse than any game, Spirits Within was way better than Unlimited and I am completely serious.
Interview where the developers look back on Final Fantasy VI
It's so wild that the World of Ruin wasn't planned at first and came about because they were ahead of schedule.
lol. I'm glad everyone's aware.
Someone finally said it.
Exactly! Hell, he even makes other people's non-blonde characters blonde.
Personally I'm down with the Theatrhythm Curtain Call route of just splitting the difference and making her hair spring green.

I've been saying this for years.
Blonde Terra is a low level Berserk Button for me, and I never liked that Dissidia went with it. Green haired Terra or bust.
One Strip! One Strip!I feel green makes her look like a christmas tree ornament.
Green hair is fine based on the shade of green.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Free achieves that exotic, otherworldly look that they were going for with her.
I know Blonde hair is all super exotic in Japan, but green hair achieves that on a much wider scale.
One Strip! One Strip!
Fuck that. I don't care where Kuja's coming from. He's a dick.
If he had even a handful of redeeming traits and qualities than maybe, but he doesn't. People shouldn't automatically win sympathy because they're dying.
