Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I just want them to outright hook up Bartz with Faris. There's too much shippyness between them (and by too much, I mean any at all) not to go forward with it.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Opera Omnia uses pretty nice compromises for V cast (not a fan of Faris's hair colour though), I imagine if they remake V, they will use those designs.
Maybe the reason they don't use green haired Terra is so people don't confuse her with Rydia.
Though considering Rydia is all green (and a gorgeous shade at that) I wouldn't see that happening.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowYeah, the Opera Omnia designs for the FFV characters are pretty good too.
Handsome Rob: I'm still mad they went Yoshitaka Amano for Dissidia.

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...
The proper thing to do is to hold on to that rage.
I need to check those designs out again.
One Strip! One Strip!Does anyone remember the character designs from the FFVI cutscenes on PS 1? Should they have gone with those designs instead for Dissidia?
They are the Amano designs, AKA what they would look like had they come to mainline Dissidia.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...They’re mostly Amano, but Lenna’s hair looks like her sprite, and Faris’ hair is pinkish-purple instead of blonde.
Do you guys that think that FFV is a lampooning on FF/JRPG tropes of the time? I read once on this very wiki how FFV may or may not be a parody of JRPG tropes.
"Thanos is a happy guy! Just look at the smile in his face!"It just doesn't take itself very seriously. After IV's melodrama they basically dialed it back and just made a fun game more about the gameplay than anything else.
That's not to say there isn't serious stuff.
I mean, Galuf's death, and Ex-Death wiping out parts of the world (including Bartz's home town).
But yeah, it has a lot of fun too.
One Strip! One Strip!I assume Exdeath is supposed to be a parody of classic villain cliches, right?
I seriously think that V has a better plot than iv. iv's story doesn't feel like a coherent sequence of events that flow logically from one another, but rather like the developers stringing along a bunch of contrivances in order to arbitrarily remove party members to spice up gameplay. It has some good themes but its execution is too thin and primitive to have much impact.
"You'll never get away with this Exdeath!"
"Do you even know what I'm trying to get away with?"
"...Uhhh..."
I wish I played V sooner. I should replay it at some point.
IV seems to me a case of trying too hard.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.IV is sort of the series first attempt at a sprawling character driven drama so I can excuse it for being rough around the edges.
V isn't really a parody, it's just a lighthearted game that doesn't go very dark, heavy, or melodramatic with things for the most part. I think the GBA translation adds some more direct parody-like jokes, but that's how I'd charactarize the original Japanese writing.
IV's plot is fine for a game that came out in 1991. No one was really expecting anything deep from an SNES game, so even just having drama in it such as Cecil dealing with his guilt and becoming a paladin was good enough for the time.
FFIV's story has its issues, but you can't deny how groundbreaking it was for its time.
I just think it's funny how they want from drama to lighthearted to the most drama.
This song needs more love. When there's a balance, it's a good thing. If it gets too dark, there's not much reason to care. When it's too light-hearted, it gets cringworthy.

IV wasn't ground breaking. They'd done the same thing with less BS in II.
Not really, the sparse dialouge of II didnt give anybody much impressions of any personality outside Gordon really.
II was just Empire Strikes Back.
This song needs more love.
At this point, they seem to have split the difference and gone with spring green. I’m cool with that.
