So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Meh, there's no thematic resonance whatsoever between the worlds of FFX and FF 7, so any connection would feel empty and meaningless anyway to me. One of the good things the series has going for it its how each entry has a strong and distinctive identity in terms of aestethics, mood, themes and so on.
Not to mention how each game has its own unique gameplay.

The only final fantasy games which I think should be in the same universe are the Crystal Chronicles games and Final fantasy 9,they share an artstyle,monsters,they even a similar plot involving mist monsters.
Other then that I'm happy for final fantasy games to remain self contained

I think NT is alright, although I get why some people have issues. I never played the other Dissidias so I don't have a frame of reference for them but I enjoyed the gameplay well enough. The story was a bit disappointing but it still had some cool moments and fun interactions. There are some missed opportunities and a few wasted characters (Golbez never even speaks in story mode) but I had a good time.
From what I saw, the character interaction moments between the FF groups were surprisingly decent and well-acted, much better than I would have expected.

For whatever reason a movie called Angel's Egg came up on my youtube feed.
I watched it for a bit and, among many other things, one of my thoughts was "this is like Yoshitaka Amano's art genuinely brought to life for once."
Turns out he was the character designer, and honestly the whole movie just feels like a highlight reel of weird shit he drew that Sakaguchi didn't want to use.
Oh, I've seen that. It was written and directed by Mamoru Oshii, who's more well-known for the first Ghost in the Shell movie. Supposedly it was inspired by him leaving his catholic faith.
It wasn't very successful because, as you might have surmised, it's a very "arthouse" type of movie where everything's vague as shit. It is visually stunning however.
If you haven't seen Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust then that's also a cool thing to check out, though it doesn't quite capture Amano's art the same way Angel's Egg does (he worked on both).
