Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

I really want his USB 2 but I'm out of mythril. I can probably grind some record dungeons and magecite for one more pull.
I need his Chain. Spent half the year chasing for Zack's due to his being the only Wind Chain until then.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...*insert Final Fantasy victory fanfare*
*Play trumpet*
Mileena MadnessAnyone here catched the latest episode of FFVII: Machinabridged?
We have a topic specifically for that show. If anyone here watches it they're probably in that thread discussing it already.
lol at Tidus angsting about his daddy issues to a bunch of orphans
Heart of StoneContext?
Final Fantasy X
Tidus is rather lacking in tact. Yuna, Wakka and Lulu are orphans and he loudly complains about his dad.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Noting that he is also virtually an orphan by then.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Speaking of dads, who the hell was Cloud's dad?
If I remember right, Cloud's dad died when he was young which was one of the reasons Cloud was a problem child.
Wow. What a shock.
You know, I'm getting sick of parents being invisible, useless or dead in anime. It's way too much of a stereotype.
One Strip! One Strip! If anything, Squall at least still has his father around and he's sorta competent, if only oblivious to most of the world around him.
Well, someone had to still have a parent, after all.

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Anime and JRPGs only have the dad missing so often because it's almost true for real life Japan as well, given how many guys work to the point that they barely see their families.
I love the variation that Trails in the Sky did on the Missing Dad thing. The main character's dad works a bunch so he isn't always around and partway through he goes missing. He's actually fine and the reason he went missing was because the villain was intentionally keeping him away because he's so good that if he were around he would have completely broken the plot.

This song needs more love. You forgot the "dead" part in Truth in Television.
How DO Phoenix Downs work exactly? Do they literally bring people back from the dead? Or do they simply relieve unconsciousness?
The trapped life force of a phoenix is used to resurrect them, thats my explanation
New theme music also a boxI believe the games have used KO or something like it to designate that status for a long time now, so it's probably closer to the latter. That's not to say there isn't healing involved, since being injured badly enough to pass out or be close do death is not a minor problem. But since you can't use them like potions, it's probably more specialized.
Generally, I assume that characters aren't actually dying and coming back to life in-universe unless the game makes a point of saying they are. Assuming they are unless it says they're not tends to break stories.

Yeah, the item descriptions tend to be along the lines of saying that they bring back a character that's been knocked out (since that's the status condition you get placed under when your HP hits 0) so I see them as being magic smelling salts.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! Its the mother who is gone, which ends up being a lot more heartbreaking than most.
I'm trying to get the mythril to try my luck at this. 43 mythril and counting.
Note: Until this event, I had a near-complete Alphinaud, missing only his LMR. Now, however...
