Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

When did orb conversion drop? I got back into it a week or so back and I've been consistently hitting a brick wall at the difficulty 99 event bosses. If orb conversion's finally a thing I think I can reliably create the -Ja spells and possibly even Full Break to take them on a little more comfortably, now.

Earlier today. Not really sure if the conversion rate is worth it, though. I feel like I get waaaaaaaay too little for the amount of orbs I put in.

Also, 3* items no longer have their own dedicated animation for the result screen, so that's several seconds saved per battle.

[up][up][up] Well I will be honest, Cid +++ was rather easy because I have excellent XIII synergy (especially since we were gifted 3 relics during Halloween and NYE). Usually, Aerith w/ Planetary Protector is my MVP, possibly with Celes if the boss loves single-target black magic, and I frequently add them for the +++ fights.

Gilgamesh is a great candidate to level up to 65. He is an excellent front row warrior, with amazing weapon selection only beaten by Tyro, Dragoon abilities which are starting to be useful to exploit weaknesses, and the Draw Fire + Retaliate combo for bosses who love the Attack command. He can single-handedly trivialize many high-level fights (not ultimate though). And his default SB is perfectly suited to Tauntaliate.

Does Morphing Time stack with Boost?

I have a message from another time...

No but the ATK increase is better than Boost's.

Boost pretty much stacks with Advance (Luneth's SB) and Hand of the Emperor (Leon's SB), and that's it.

and of course none are on offer this go round.

I wonder who the final boss of FFVIIR will be.

It will most likely be the chase on the highway I think. It would be the best place to stop and avoid the info dump flashback.

They have already said more Midgar sections will be available to explore than before.

VIIR.2 will probably go to the Crater and 3 will finish the game off.

Pretty much. It's either that or Jenova BIRTH if the game somehow is longer.

2 is probably Jenova DEATH(since Aerith's death and Jenova LIFE isn't a good climax in the original game but could be made better) and 3 is Sephiroth.

Ahh.

Well next time say 'all of FFVIIR', because there is going to be a FFVIIR 2 and probably FFVIIR 3 and since they started early in the generation there might even be a FFVIIR 4.

[up][up] I see the third game opening up with Tifa as MC and the look in the sky as Meteor is falling. It was an awesome way to start a disk and probably just as awesome to start a game with.

The end of Midgar and when Tifa takes control are pretty much the two points in the game where it is very clear that everything has changed as a game and world.

His SSB Relic will be featured in the next VII event - the one with AC!Cloud. It will be in about six or eight weeks.

Suppose by than Freya's event will have come and gone. I just use my favorites and a level 50 so and so for events I feel like completing (Yuffie's okay so I'm going for this one, and Edge is a cool dude so I tried and actually beat Rubicante Elite on his), and Freya's pretty much the last character I need to have my personal all-star roster of her, Mog, Red, Vivi, and a rotating 5th slot complete. Gilgamesh is really good so he'll probably be the most common one.

Mmmh actually Freya is supposed to be some time after Cloudy Wolf. Incoming are:

  • Beatrix
  • Penelo
  • Kefka
  • Exdeath
  • Jecht
  • Cloudy Wolf
  • Laguna
  • Freya

Beatrix and Jecht, I wonder how any team could hold such combined awesomeness.

So, Sunieth Waterscape

Chapter 3: Summons, Goals, Memories and Trees.

  • Beat Odin on my second try! Just started it with Lightning as a Medic and Hope as a Ravager.

  • Sure, use the lights in case we get lost in a corridor.

  • Oh no Hope, you're looking like every clichéd would be murderer ever.

  • Lightning. Lightning. Maybe it's a good idea to take the knife away? The kid's already got an assault glider and he still can't use Commando. Also, staring at it while talking about revenge is not a good sign.

  • D'aaaw, sleepy Frocobo is cute.

  • I love me some Saber's Edge.

  • Well, at least Vanille has her priorities right with that line (?)

  • No Sazh, noo. That backstory. I cried. It was all because he wanted to surprise Dajh with a chocobo chick. Please, no, no, no! The tears!

  • How was Dajh knocked unconscious? If it was an attack...why didn't he DAJH?!

  • Frocobo! Always love more Frocobo! Want more Frocobo!

  • Holy...was that Vanille?! Ooh, Sazh is going to be...there are no words.

Damn, I didn't think I'd get to the point of liking the characters this much. Sazh and Lightning especially. Because the only others are a teenage boy with murderous intent towards someone who is completely innocent of what he accuses him of, a Cloud Cuckoo Lander that's way too bright for my liking and content to run away, and Snow. But I don't hate them.

Dammit game, you're giving me feels.

Also, I took down all the Scalebeasts. Y'know game, I'd like a better rewards than around a hundred CP, seeing as you said I should avoid them when they're so easy to beat.

Let's just say that, like their eidolons, there's more than meets the eye for some of our heroes.

Saber's Edge is indeed a masterpiece. Possibly the best normal boss theme all series.

How are you liking the voice-acting? That can be a stickler for some people. On my replay I've come to really appreciate Hope's VA.

Now for my own XIII report:

I died a ludicrous number of times but I managed to clear out the Massif. Behemoths and Wyverns are no problem but pair them up with those floaty things and man, I got my ass kicked something fierce. It was a valuable lesson for me, though. NEVER trust Autoheal. Once I finally started paying closer attention to everyone's HP and making sure to heal them properly, I won. Got a Glass Orb for my trouble, whatever that does.

I think this time I'm going to properly explore everything I can. Do the stone sidequests and grind and whatever else.

Although, I have a question. Does anybody remember a pretty easy optional boss that was like a big machine thing? I stumbled on it in my first run and even with my incompetence I almost beat it. But then I lost and decided not to try again since it was optional. But yeah, do you know what I'm talking about and where it is? I want to kick its now I'm vaguely more competent.

The voice acting is great, though X and XII will always hold a special place in my heart.

"AHA HA HA HA HA!"

"A test for Ashelia B'Nargin Dalmasca!"

I just have a bit of a problem with the mouth flaps. It's really only noticeable in the closer scenes. Vanille's is the most annoying to me, while I guess I like Sazh's the most, just because it's something different to the others. Lightning pauses between every other word.

Vanille's voice can be a bit weird at times, mainly because the localizers insisted she make "cute moe noises" just like she did in the original.

Speaking of Vanille, how old does she seem to you? C Urious because you are new to the game and her character. Did you get the impression like I did that she was around Hope's age? Remember Snow and his group called them both 'the kids" so I just figured she was 15 or 16, not 18.

[up][up]Here's a comparison video of the voices(spoiler warning of course):

Edit:[up]Physically she's 19 last I checked(Fang's 21, Sazh at 40, Snow also 21, Lightning 21 or 20 and Hope at 14 before XIII-2 IIRC).

I think the XIII trilogy voice acting is great. It's not as good as XII's pseudo-Shakespearian but SE won't want to ever let themselves drop to X quality again.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.
