Sticky plz.
Alas, this is not a game.
Following the events of [REDACTED], we should probably get some rules in this place. Not hard-and-fast, you-will-obey, on-pain-of-death rules, of course; more a sort of guideline for how to keep things fun and entertaining for all involved. Obviously, FG is all about fun, but these rules are intended to make sure it stays that way.
- Try to stay vaguely on topic. You can be flexible; sometimes the rules need changing, and OPs, there's no point in trying to make Tropers play a game they don't want to. But if the game is "let's pretend to be kittens", don't derail into "let's pretend to be robot samurai". Remember, anyone can make a thread here, so if you don't see a game that interests you, make your own thread for that. You don't need to ruin other people's games.
- On that note, please don't turn every thread into a free-for-all fight. There is a thread for that. More generally, you don't need to derail every thread into a roleplaying game. As it happens, we have an entire subforum for if you want to roleplay.
- If you are supposed to be roleplaying, please refrain from godmodding. It's not funny, it's not fair, and it disrupts the game. That means no playing unbeatable characters. Be especially careful when killing other people's characters. Give them a fair chance; rather than writing "*shoots That Troper's head off*", consider "*fires gun at That Troper's face*". The line between Godmodding and regular fighting can be somewhat nebulous, so please exercise your common sense and personal judgement.
- Be wary of conversational derails. They're a fact of life on these forums, but try not to go overboard, or you may find there isn't a game left.
- Take your drama someplace else. FG isn't the place for that shit. We're here to have fun, not start a Flame War.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game: Remember that forum games are a collaborative project, not a competition. Please do not write your posts with the intention of trying to one up other people by making it hard for them to build upon your post in a constructive way.
- No sex or fetish games. Let's keep this vaguely family friendly.
- Please bump responsibly. Due to the amount of games played every day, it's normal for a thread to be knocked off of the first page within hours. With that in mind, regulars will wait several days or a few weeks before bumping. Please use the same amount of courtesy. Threads that are time-sensitive (such as YIAY) do allow a bit of leeway regarding this rule, in case the user presenting the prompt needs to be pinged or if there are not enough responses after time has passed.
- Above all, have fun! This being Forum Games, that's what we all want, right? These rules are not intended to oppress anyone, but rather as a gentle reminder of how to avoid that dreaded Internet Backdraft. That way, we can all enjoy ourselves. ^_^
EDIT:
- The avatar minimum and the keep sockpuppeting to a minimum rule have been removed from the rule list.
- Don't write your posts in a way that makes it hard for other tropers to participate in the game rule has been added to the rules list
- Added "no sex or fetish games" rule.
- Added a rule regarding thread bumping.

It's actually unrelated. I was referring to a lock made in this thread.
That game was "how many posts will this thread have before it dies?". It died of attrition in 2011.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.So the problem is the game's premise did not allow thread necromancy. Okay.
Does that apply to other forum games like that? Thread Anti-Necromancy Game comes to mind.
Well, I think I'm going to give this game a shot. If it is seen as distasteful or a ripoff of "Count to 100", please shield me from the flames/go easy on me.
Come sail your ships around me, and burn your bridges down. What should be done about Forum Games that really belong on Role Playing?
Troper Shipping and Troper Dating Service functions much more like a Yack Fest thread than a Forum Game. Two users have said it is confusing and a few others supported moving the thread to Yack Fest.
If it were moved, probably with a new title that clarifies it is a chatting thread, it would encourage more users to join rather than confuse and drive away users who were looking for dating. Forum Games will only attract users who want to play games.
This is a subject that has popped up often on that thread. I am only moving the discussion here so it can be focused and chatting can continue in that thread.
Again, I have nothing against the thread or the users, but intend to optimize the thread so it may be less confusing.
My ideas:
- Move the thread only
- Move the thread and rename so it clarifies the purpose of the thread
- Redirect the discussion to Hangout Thread, an underused Yack Fest thread intended for general chatting
- Do nothing

I think the second option is probably the best option. No idea what it could be renamed to though.
I'd rather do nothing. I like Forum Games having it's own chatting thread. Plus, while it's gotten off topic, it's not like the shipping and dating aspect is completely gone.

dead devotionThe Forum Games should not have a chatting thread. It's filled with games. Hence the name Forum Games. Yack Fest is where the chatting threads are. That's why it's called Yack Fest.
If any other thread like that was started by a newbie in the forum games section, it would be locked so fast it would make your head spin. Because, you know, it's not a game.

I like option 2 most as well, though because the issue of what the name should be only brought out long names, option 3 is good too. However, I feel like there would be much opposition to that.
Also, I thought of having a crack shipping game created here where the only posts allowed are crack shippings.

I think the best option is to move it to Yack Fest, but keep the name.
I just found JustForFun.Troper Shipping And Troper Dating Service, which has a first paragraph that strongly highlights the problem well.
I'd rather just have it moved, changing the name seems kind of unnecessary.
Just pointing out that the name comes from it originally being for promotion/discussion of two Just for Fun pages, one of which, JustForFun.Troper Dating Service, still exists but is more or less a relic
Looks like that one actually does have A/S/Ls.
Yeah, it does. It was something that was apparently run from the IRC channels back when they had an actual connection to TV Tropes outside of the name.
This is the last I will say on this. I am too emotionally invested in this to feel comfortable as part of the discussion. I'm completely against anything more than moving the thread.
People are mirrors. If you smile, a smile will be reflected.Moving the thread only seems to have the most support so far.
I wouldn't mind it being moved, I suppose.
Many have entered, not knowing we're a tight-knit bunch of people who ship occasionally and constantly spiral into a maelstrom of insanity and derailment.
ಠ_ಠMoving without renaming would change the first impression from "this is a dating game" to "this is a dating discussion thread" which I think would be a little better.
It looks like it belongs more in Yack Fest than here. Moving sounds best.

It's okay. He was just asking due to the nature of that game and the threads being locked
