[up]For me I only like him in 1 movie (Eagle Eye), the rest of his performances always have him play some dumb teenagers that are really annoying (Charlie Angel, I, Robot, Chrystal Skull, ...)

Also the plagiarism thing

Also the abuse thing he's going on trial for.

Speaking of Pointless Hub, he confirmed on youtube his next video is Transformers: The Last Knight.

With Lebouf as an actor, there's the fact that he kept playing really annoying characters for a while, and then really poorly tried to transition into being a tortured artist with some really cringy performance art.

... as a person, yeah, there's the plagiarism and abuse accusations.

Wahlberg is simpler, at least. Guy committed hate crimes and doesn't feel guilty about it. Hell, he took it a step further and even said at some point that the right thing to do would be to apologize and make amends but he hasn't... and wouldn't, because he doesn't feel guilty. Despite explicitly saying he hasn't done the right thing.

... also a shitty actor with shitty roles.

And the Bayverse movies are finally over. Now it's time for the review for the reboot Transformers movie that saved the franchise, Bumblebee.

Monsters. Robots. Both are pretty cool. It'd be even cooler if they fought. So they made a movie about that. Lot of people liked it. Now I'm talking about it.

What a hook for his next video.

I love Pacific Rim. It's a shame any attempt to follow up on it just kinda turned out mediocre.

Pacific Rim was a fantastic movie.

The sequel... exists. It was somewhat better than staring at a blank screen for two hours.

Cody talks about Pacific Rim 2, over what went wrong, how the main characters weren't interesting as the original cast, some questionable things done on the plot and whose to blame for the whole thing.

PS:I was surprised to learn of Pentecost having an estranged son and Dr. Geiszler turning evil was Del Toro's ideas.

Honesty NEWT Turning evil wasn't the worst idea. Like seeing a descent into madness influenced by kaijui contamination

It's just how they handled it was terrible.

I feel like there no bad ideas, just degree of difficult to make certain ideas work. Te worse an idea is, the harder for a writer to make it work.

The idea that the aliens are actually human sound very interesting, like future humanity looked back at their past and are trying to fix the mistakes they cause in the past. Still the name Precursors just doesn't fit.

There's ideas that in a vacuum work but butt up against other ideas.

Newt turning evil is fine, but it butts up against friendly CEO lady who is also very hands on towards her pet project (She literally calls it her legacy) for drone Jaeger so how the fuck did Newt do all this behind her back?

Son of Marshal Pentergast who is a criminal rogue outlaw kicked out of the program is fine but it butts up against "And thus we hired him as a trainer".

"Girl who built her own mini jaeger" is again, fine, but butts up against "So we make her a pilot trainee" instead of like, Newt's assistant who uncovers his treachery.

Add to that some very questionable choices (Daytime fight scene which make the CGI look worst, the Mechs loosing all sense of weight and mass, the completely bonker resolution where Gypsy welds its hand to a missile to rocket punch a super kaiju. Newt treating drifting with the brain like sex).

[up]Iirc the reason the Jaegers are faster and more mobile was due to John Boyega, who was also a producer on the movie. In an interview he did for the movie, Boyega was a fan of mecha anime when he was a kid so he convince the VFX team to make the Jaegers to move and act like those mecha anime. However, he might have confused Giant Robot anime that Pacific Rim was based onfor Real Robot anime like Gundam, since those two types of mecha operate differently (one is slow but powerful while the other was fast and had a variety of weapons). Plus it was vary jarring to see Giant Robots act like Real Robots when everyone who saw those types of anime know that's not how they move or act since it was like an ambulance van acting like a police cruiser.

Yeah that explains a lot. Fans of Real Robots and Super Robots do not always overlap in taste for a reason. That move cost a large part of the audience who had years to grow attached to how the Jaegers felt, and on top of the lighting and character changes it created a tone that didn't fit what made people fans of the first Pacific Rim in the first place.

Also goddamn this movie had too many ideas for the runtime this plot had. Any one or even tow of these ideas could have made their own film, but all of them at once? All of them would fall by the wayside and get underdeveloped.

Strong "We had several unfinished scripts we pasted together to make this movie" vibe.

More like everyone have an ideas about what the movie should be. The stars want something, the suits want another thing, the director want something else and there no one who want or could put their foot down and focus them in a single direction.

And like... why couldn't Mako have been the main character of the sequel? Why did they feel the need to invent a long-lost son of Pentacost that he has never mentioned before?

That feels like something feel through when negotiating with the original actors. I imagine it's the same reason Raleigh got killed off in a book.

Which is funny coz the script clearly intends for the main character to be Raleigh. Him being a veteran to teach the new generation, piloting a Gypsy robot, clearly close to Mako and shaken by her death. He has a working relationship with Newt.

Like yeah Charlie Hunnam wasnt available for scheduling, but its astounding how much the script has giant neon signs going "Raleigh should be here".

So many events make more sense if Raleigh is there. The big summit isn't guarded by a guy who got kicked out the program and is serving a community sentence, it's guarded by Raleigh, the guy who closed the breach and Mako's most trusted pilot aboard his new Gypsy Avenger which makes a powerful symbol to vote against the drones. And thus it makes sense newt sends a rogue Jaeger to kill Mako by knocking this icon down a peg and show the drones are needed rather than ya know, fire a missile at her helicopter or put a bomb on it.

I didn't really care for the first Pacific Rim movie. It just didn't grab me the same way it did for other people. But I do sympathize with Pacific Rim fans over how the sequel turned out. They deserved better than that.

Well that was unexpected. Cody's Avatar can now moved his mouth. As for the video, yup, despite the movie's flaws like the Unfortunate Implications over it's depiction of the Persians (To the point Neo-Nazi skinheads enjoyed the movie and wanted to be just like the Spartans (Unless they suddenly learned the Spartans were also Boy Lovers and consider Man on Man love as more Manly than heterosexual relationships)), 300 is still an enjoyable, historical fantasy movie.

Whats funny is talking about the creation of 300 without talking about the Elephant in the room that was Sin City.

Like he talks about how the movie has a lot of shot for shot recreations of Miller's comic. And dialogue. And that's all there because Sin City did the same thing and was a massive success.

In fact, I'd say the primary flaw of 300 is that unlike Sin City it's based on a single short comic instead of three, and thus has to pad out the length by adding a pointless subplot about queen Gorgo back in Sparta.
