Should Bowdlerize be only examples of altering existing works, or does it include adaptations as well?

The description for Bowdlerize implies that it applies to editing a work to remove offensive aspects in a way like Edited for Syndication or George Lucas Altered Version. Some of the examples, however, are for adaptations - a new work entirely - and something being different an adaptation doesn't change anything about the original work. Should they be part of this trope, or should there be a different trope specifically for changes made in adaptations?

Depends on how closely the adaptation is following the work and the method of censorship. If the work is a broad "this is less graphic than the original" then it would be Lighter and Softer, Tamer and Chaster, etc. But if the work is generally a Shot-for-Shot Remake with the item in question being one of the only changes, I can see that as being Bowdlerized in concept.

But that's a rather narrow set of parameters, most examples of that type would probably not qualify.
