I'm very stoked for Calli getting this opportunity, I just hope the anime actually pans out and is worth something.

The script is by Tappei, of Re:Zero fame, so I have high hopes for the writing.

Man, after seeing Anycolor's financial results YoY between JP and EN, I'm now finding myself wishing Cover did the same thing for EN, ID, and JP, just so we can get an even more apt comparison. As it is, though, the difference in revenue growth would be alarming for any investor for Anycolor; combining the revenue shows a measly 4.7% growth YoY for Anycolor, compared to Cover's 38.7% growth YoY.

What's really eyebrow-raising is that Cover's SG&A expenses far outstrips Anycolor's at nearly 3-to-1; both companies overall made just about the same in terms of gross profit—3.25 billion JPY for Anycolor to Cover's 3.16 billion—but Anycolor only spent about 694 million JPY to Cover's 1.97 billion. Despite that, operating profit for both companies shows a stark difference; Anycolor is down 20%, while Cover is up 38.5%. Cover's overall financial numbers were so good that they had to increase their financial forecast by 20%.

The differences basically line up with the person who compared Cover's Q3 statement from February to Anycolor's earlier Q2 statement as a rough comparison. And these are how the numbers are before the blowback caused by Selen's termination. Once the year-end statements come out, I expect it to be an absolute bloodbath, especially when you put into consideration how starkly different each company's Q4 is going to be: Anycolor is going to be reporting on the fallout from Selen's termination, the subscription exodus and the subsequent decrease in donations (Enna, for example, only earned half of what she got last year for her birthday stream), the further fallout from the Black Stream, and what not. Cover, meanwhile, is going to be covering what is undoubtedly going to be their biggest holoFes yet, or Calli making it big by being chosen for the ED in the Suicide Squad Isekai anime.

Calli already made it big by doing a collab song for One Piece. This is more about a personal milestone for her. (Not that it isn't a huge deal, of course)

Man. I love imagining the tear rage of the "Calli doesn't deserve it" minority right now. evil grin

I have to say, the supposed 97% retention rate in that ANYCOLOR report is grating and likely a made up number. Not to mention the use of Neuro-sama in one of their slides instead of, you know, one of their own Livers.

Also, ANYCOLOR's stock very quickly tanked down 700 yen (the maximum trading margin that it can increase/decrease in one day for the Japanese trading market) after the market's opening, so it's now at 2440 and people are unable to sell anymore until the next day.

There's a caveat on the 97% thing: the fine print on that number specifically notes that it counts domestic (i.e.: strictly only Japanese) Livers as of April 2022, less those who graduated during the Fiscal Year of 2023/2024. KR, ID, and EN, so all of the Livers who jumped ship in 23/4 aren't counted. They also fail to count the domestic Livers who left prior to April 2022. If we're counting company-wide, then Anycolor is actually at around a 75% retention rate.

Also, that model of Neuro-sama that shows up in the financial report was originally a model of Momose Hiyori, which is a default model for Live2D Inc.

Welp, after that report, Anycolor share price just cratered down to 2440 at one point. The only reason it's not lower is because of Japanese law capping the loss, and 2440 is minimum for Anycolor for today.

...So Niji EN is absolutely getting folded in the near future, right? There's no way they can survive the bloodbath of the next report if they were already crashing this hard

...So Niji EN is absolutely getting folded in the near future, right? There's no way they can survive the bloodbath of the next report if they were already crashing this hard

Okay, a few things here:

  1. It should be remember that Anycolor has been selling NijiEN to the investors as their big growth market. Dissolving it is going to be a last-ditch solution
  2. I suspect the drop in the company's overall finances aren't going to be as bad for this period as people expect them to be. Most of Nijisanji's audience is domestic
  3. They can survive getting taken off the market entirely. Anycolor has no meaningful debts and is sitting on a massive war chest

That all being said, there's definitely pressure on Tazumi to do something about the situation at EN, and I question his ability to find solutions beyond firing people

[up]Yeah, anycolor already closed 3 of their international branches, killing nijiEN, the one with the broadest appeal and most successful so far, pretty much means giving up on international expansion and future growth there. Investor won't like that.

Edit: firing people would be a good first step though. Whoever is responsible for nijiEN mess so far should not even manage a food truck, let alone an international corporation.

Nijisanji new debuts about to start. First up we have Kitami Yusei, novice sorcerer, 19:00 JST (about 10 minutes from this writing):

Kaisei, locksmith, 19:30 JST:

Sakaki Ness, butler, 20:00 JST:

And their original song DIGGY DIGGY at 21:30 JST. They're doing the release on streaming services starting the 16th this time (so for once the song isn't leaking early).

[up][up][up] They might survive, but growth, particularly international growth, would become almost next to impossible if they were to give up and fold EN into the overall Nijisanji umbrella. As pointed out, they already gave up on ID, KR, and IN; killing EN, which was supposed to be their driving force for growth as a company and their stock value, would basically be sending the message that Anycolor can't cut it in the international stage.

The biggest obstacle in fixing the decline in EN is that Anycolor needs a complete overhaul of their managerial practices, from top to bottom. If there's any weight to the rumors that senior Livers themselves are holding managerial positions, that needs to stop like yesterday (or at the very least, they shouldn't have any sort of decision-making power over other Livers), and they need to hire at competitive rates that would actually foster focused, skilled, and attentive talent managers who actually speak fluent English, and to also increase their staff-to-talent ratio; 2:1 permanent employees (compared to Cover's 5:1) is simply far too small. No more of their less-than-burger-flipping-wage rates. This will naturally balloon their SG&A and deeply cut into their operating margins, as well as make finding actual managers more difficult, but it's basically proven that their current approach is simply neither feasible nor sustainable if Anycolor wants any sort of longevity in the international market like Cover is reaching.

And that's not even going into talent remuneration, which is simply abysmal.

Suisei is revealing a new outfit one week prior to her 6th anniversary. This one has to be the most stylish drip ever, what with the military uniform with dragon motifs and red-tinted glasses, along with toggable red eyes. There's even an alternate lighter version of the outfit under the coat.

By now, Nijisanji's YMMV page should probably have a Fanwork-Only Fans example because the recent controversies has caused people like me to have a sort of disdain for Nijisanji as a whole (both EN and JP/former ID branches) based on all their shady actions over the past couple of months so far—yet fanwork for the Vtuber agency is still pouring out like waterworks.

Restored faith in Hololive (we don't talk about the necromancer) is definitely a side effect I'm noticing for me.
