Joel Guerra Animations

So this is an incredibly talented youtuber who I discovered by complete, random chance thanks to the algorithm. Joel Guerra, a Peruvian animator with some really slick and creative videos to his name.

The series that I found him with is his most recent, ENA, a series of utterly surreal vaporwave-esque shorts with an animation style that I can only compare to Eternam (I'm sure there's other adventure games that use a similar style, but that's the only one that pops into my head). Here's the latest one, and the first of his videos I watched:

His other main series is HANDS UP, a slightly-less-surreal series of shorts about a group of Space Police. Here's the latest one from that series:

His earliest work is apparently some spanish-language parodies of Dora the Explorer (which I only found by searching his name on this very wiki!), though only one of them is available on his current channel.

Hey, I wrote the music and lyrics for that Hands Up short you posted! Matter of fact, I think I posted it somewhere...

Joel's a really cool guy, and a great animator! I think one of the regular VAs he works with has a TV Tropes page. I think it was Lizzie Freeman, she also shows up in some SMG4 shorts as Meggy!

I have to say that 3d animated... fancy person Ena meets inside Runas' place reminds me a lot of the Master from Fallout in speaking style.

This was probably the trippiest thing Joel has done so far. I'm simultaneously excited and scared for what he'll cook up next. :P

Apparently we have an ENA page now!

Oh damn, can't believe I missed that! I guess all we need next is a Hands Up or general Joel G page, and we'd be set! I'd do it myself but I'm way too busy at the moment.

I didn't know about Joel G and found out about ENA by chance, while watching some videos featuring Friday Night Funkin (another popular thing I also knew nothing about). Apparently there are several ENA mods for that game so the Youtube algorythm suggested I'd watch the trilogy of videos.

I was hooked pretty soon! Joel has a knack for making some very peculiar and interesting characters, the world is beautiful in an insane sort of way, the tunes are good and, while I'm not a huge fan of "lolrandum" humor, I found all the adventures to be hilarious. It's also interesting to find out about all the references and sources of inspiration.

Let's see what the next batch of videos will be about!

Peru's situation at the moment is not good at all, and sadly Joel got COVID too. Hope that he can get better soon with no lasting consequences.

Joel has recovered now, and is back on track. And I have it on good authority that you'll be seeing a new short sooner than later. And perhaps with some contributions from a certain troper... ;P
