At least this show won't have John Kricfalusi at the helm again. Still, this is pretty questionable to say the least.
Comedy Central seems to be going all in on reboots like this, but I figured Ren & Stimpy was radioactive after John K’s skeletons came out.
John will definitely not be involved. I know that much.
I've heard Billy West will be back, and so will some of the original writers, but if they're really serious about this they should call in Bob Camp.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Pretty weird that these comebacks of Beavis and Butt-Head, Clone High, and now Ren & Stimpy are coming to Comedy Central since these were mainstays of MTV. But then MTV should be about music since it's literally "Music Television", so what do I know?
Oh wait. I know this: No Bob Camp, no thanks. I have spoken.

I found the article which says that Billy West will reprise his roles as the titular duo.
Why don't you want Bob camp?

New theme music also a boxIf you scroll down a bit, there's a screenshot that says this is the first time Bob Camp heard of this reboot.
I can vouch that the screenshot isn't fake.
Bob has been wanting to do a reboot for a long while. He's suggested projects to Nick, and they've said no. If it's true they have some of the original writers on board, no excuse for not having Bob on.
Of course, they did just green light it. Anything can happen. Maybe he'll get the call. But if it gets to air and Bob isn't involved... you'll know the quality.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."No, I'm saying that if Bob Camp isn't involved, then I won't be interested in seeing where this goes.
I actually want him in this because he's why R&S managed to pull through when John K. got the boot for not acknowledging deadlines.
UPDATE: So, the animation community on Twitter is having a nuclear meltdown, saying it's not cool how R&S is getting a reboot while fresh new ideas (like Harpy Gee, Planet Panic, and Monsters Abroad) just waiting to be played with are getting cast aside like they were nothing.
Initially, I thought a R&S reboot without John K. wouldn't be the end of the world, but after an animator (who will remain anonymous for their protection) literally tweeted how there are no silver linings, I'm just slamming into doomsday mode. Now if you'll excuse me.
(*assumes troubled fetal position*)

The real thing that pisses me off about all this is that no-one complained this much when Cartoon Network was doing it.
I get that John K. is a horrible person, but can't we just ignore everything to do with Ren and Stimpy?! I never liked the show, ever! People on animation Twitter are saying that people defending the reboot are part of the problem, but those people are part of the problem too; they're just giving the show, and the man so closely tied with it, so much oxygen venting about it.

Anyways, John K. isn't getting any breathing room nor rewards for this reboot, he's been given the boot a long time ago, he's been unpersoned everywhere he's worked at and it's pretty clear to me that they'll go out of their way to dissasociate the work from him.
Also, John K. wasn't the sole handler of Ren and Stimpy, there are many artists who worked on that cartoon and those who will work on the reboot could get hurt if their project gets cancelled all because the guy who created the previous work was an asshole (Even if his involvement consisted of being abusive to the actual talent behind his series)

"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Even ignoring John K.'s large shadow looming under this project (which is impossible), I don't really see the appeal in this. I loved the first series as a kid, but it did not age well at all. The previous adult reboot was also horrible. I just don't get it.

Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).I am neutral towards this, honestly. I am just trying to be fair to the people who could be screwed over via association with someone they probably never met/hate as much as we all do
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."I saw literally one episode in the late 2000s, I believe. Didn't like it. Don't want anything to do with the reboot, aside from my initial vent.
The real question I have is, why didn't people get atomic when Teen Titans Go! came out? The Ben 10 reboot? Powerpuff Girls??
Edited by AngrokVa on Aug 5th 2020 at 12:11:41 PM
They did get atomic, where have you been living in the past decades? People HATED those reboots with a passion. Only thing is that their previous works weren't made by a pedophiliac jackass
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Well, I guess I wasn't looking hard enough when I was younger. And this time we've got people who actually work in the animation industry getting mad about it, even those who sympathize with the victims of John K's misconduct.
I feel I've said enough, so I'll step away. Fuck John K., and fuck Ren and Stimpy. Don't even know why I wasted the past hour and a half getting worked up over this....

x2 Don't forget She-Ra and Thundercats. People got EXTRA pissed about the latter.
One more thing to add before I drop out of this topic completely: as much as people, especially myself, hate Ren and Stimpy, I'm actually glad this reboot, of all blasted reboots, started an even bigger discussion: that companies should focus on new and original works instead of being overly reliant on nostalgic works that are, more often than not, in mediocre or poor quality.

Truth be told, the "secret sauce" to Ren and Stimpy was kind of this hot mess of the right creative minds, Executive Meddling and John K all bashing against each other and somehow making something good. You see how when just one of those assets got full control over the show it didn't quite work out.
When John K got full creative control we got the grotesque Adult Party Cartoon. Even when Bob Camp and the rest of the team had helm over it, it wasn't quite the same, with more awkward, mean spirited plots and less likeable versions of the duo. I could buy into the idea that, if neither is involved with this take, it might just be the executive interpretation full on, and thus likely a far blander cookie cutter experience.

I think the best bet is to not resemble the original show less and make it more into a crazy, absurd show like Uncle Grandpa.
Sigh, if the universe DEMANDS that we HAVE to have a reboot of Ren & Stimpy (over something fresh and original like Harpy Gee or Planet Panic grumble grumble), then I SUPPOSE that would be the best course of action.
Edited by TargetmasterJoe on Aug 6th 2020 at 9:04:43 AM
I can say that a lot of people would like to see Bob - as well as anyone else from the original who isn't otherwise occupied - on the show. Some of whom are pretty famous.
If you're going to do a reboot, and I don't think it should really happen - the original was lightning in a bottle - you should at least have people who know what they're doing.

There's a Ren And Stimpy reboot being made for Comedy Central.
